You can use the organizer as a calculator. Select symbol from the main
menu. The calculator screen appears.
Press CE to cancel the last entry. To clear the display for the next
calculation, press ON or AC.
Notes: You do not have to press SHIFT when you press CE or AC.
If the result of a calculation is longer than 14 digits, if you
attempt to divide by 0, or if you try to calculate the square root
of a negative number, E (error) appears. Press AC to clear the
display.
Calculation Tips
When you press +, - , x, or / on the keypad, that operator's symbol appears
on the second line of the display.
The last value you entered before you press = appears above the result of
the calculation.
A minus sign (-) appears if the result of a calculation is negative.
If you enter the wrong operator during a calculation, simply press the
correct one to replace it.
When you use the calculator, the number on the top line is the constant
value stored in the calculator (see "Constant Calculations" below). The
number on the bottom line is the calculation.
Standard Calculations
For standard calculations, press the keys in the order they appear in the
arithmetic operation.
Constant Calculations
If you calculate a series of equations with the same number, called the
constant, the calculator lets you perform the calculations without
entering the constant each time.
When you multiply, the first number you enter is the constant. When you
add, subtract, or divide, the second number you enter is the constant.
The constant value appears on the top line.
Memory Calculations
This memory calculation feature lets you easily do multistep calculations.
For memory calculations, press:
MR to recall (display) the value in memory.
MC to clear the memory.
M- to total a calculation and subtract the total from memory.
M+ to total a calculation and add the total to memory.
M appears on the upper left side of the display when a number is stored in
memory.
Note: You can use a constant in percent calculations.
Conversion
The organizer's conversion function lets you convert between measurements
and between different world currencies.
Conversion Pairs
The organizer lets you convert one currency or measurement into another.
Together, these two currencies/measurements are called a conversion pair.
The organizer has the following preset measurement conversion pairs.
These are fixed and you cannot change them.
Inch -> cm (1 -> 2.54)
Feet -> meter (1 -> 0.3048)
Feet -> inch (1 -> 12)
Mile -> km (1 -> 1.6093)
Ounce -> gram (1 -> 28.3495)
Pound -> gram (1 -> 453.593)
Pound -> Ounce (1 -> 16)
The organizer has following three currency conversion pairs. You can
change the ratio of these pairs, and you can add more currency conversion
pairs.
Dollars to Japanese Yen ($1 -> Y100)
Dollars to Pounds Sterling ($1 -> Pound 0.5)
Pounds Sterling to Japanese Yen (1 -> 162)
Viewing the Preset Conversion Pairs
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears,
showing the number of conversion pairs already set (10 is the default).
2. Repeatedly press Down or Up Arrow. The preset conversion pairs appear.
Entering a New Conversion Pair
The organizer lets you enter two names (up to 7 characters long) to label
the conversion pair for a currency or measurement you want to convert.
Follow these steps to enter a new conversion pair.
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears.
2. <. A cursor appears on the top line of the display.
3. Use the letter keys to enter the first name in the conversion pair.
Then, if the name is less than 6 characters, repeatedly press > until
the cursor moves to the right of >.
4. Use the letter keys to enter the last name in the conversion pair (up
to 7 characters).
5. Press Down Arrow. The number on the display flashes.
6. Use the number keys to enter the conversion (exchange rate you want to
use.
For example, if you want to convert inches to centimeters, enter 2.54 as
the conversion rate since 1 inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters. Or, if you
want to convert centimeters to inches, enter 0.394 as the conversion rate
since 0.394 as the conversion rate since 0.394 inches is equal to 1 cm.
Note: You cannot enter 0 or a negative number as the conversion rate.
7. Press EXE. STORED! briefly appears, then the conversion screen with
the conversion pair names and the conversion rate appears.
Deleting a Conversion Pair
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears.
2. Repeatedly press \/ or /\ to select the conversion pair you want to
delete.
3. Press SHIFT, then press DEL. DELETE Y/N? appears.
4. To delete the selected conversion pair, press Y. DELETED! appears
briefly, then the initial screen appears.
To cancel the procedure and keep the conversion pair, press N.
Setting A Currency Exchange Rate
You must set the current exchange rate for each currency you want to
convert.
The organizer has the following preset currency exchange rates:
1 US Dollar = 100 Japanese Yen ($ -> Y100)
1 US Dollar = 0.5 Pounds Sterling ($1 -> 0.5)
(1 Pound Sterling = 162 Japanese Yen (1 -> Y162)
Follow these steps to change a currency exchange rate.
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears.
2. Press \/ or /\. The conversion screen appears with the icons (or
names) for the currently selected conversion pair. An arrow between
the icons shows the conversion direction. The currently set exchange
rate between the conversion pair appears above 0.
3. Repeatedly press Down or Up Arrow to select the currency conversion
pair you want to set.
Note: When you press \/ or /\ at the last stored currency conversion
pair, NOT FOUND! appears. Simply continue to press /\ or \/.
4. Press <. The conversion rate flashes and symbol appears at the bottom
of the display.
5. Use the number keys to enter the desired exchange rate (up to 14 digits).
Note: If you make a mistake, press CE to clear the entry, then re-enter
the exchange rate.
6. Press EXE.STORED! briefly appears, then the conversion screen with the
conversion pair and the new exchange rate appears.
Converting Currency/Measurements
You can convert currency and measurements using any of the following:
Preset currency conversion pairs
Currency conversion pairs you enter
Measurement conversion pairs you enter
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears.
2. Press \/ or /\. The conversion screen appears.
3. Repeatedly press \/ or /\ to select the conversion pair you want. The
organizer displays the reset conversion pairs and any conversion pairs
you entered.
4. Use the number keys to enter the amount of currency or measurement you
want to convert.
5. To convert the number you entered in Step 4 from the currency/
measurement displayed on the left to the currency/measurement displayed
on the right, press >. > changes to >. Press > again to display
the converted amount.
To convert the number you entered in Step 4 from the currency/
measurement displayed on the right to the currency/measurement displayed
on the left, press <. > changes to <. Press > again to display the
converted amount.
The converted currency/measurement amount appears below the conversion
rate.
Using the calculator While Converting
While you use the conversion feature, you can use the organizer as a
calculator to help you determine how much items will cost in your home
currency when priced in another currency.
Here is an example:
You are traveling in Japan and want to purchase two Japanese dolls.
One doll costs Y3,250, and the other doll costs Y5,530.
Your home currency is US Dollars.
The current exchange rate between Japanese Yen and US Dollars is Y100
to the dollar.
Follow these steps to find out how much both dolls will cost in US
Dollars.
1. From the main menu, select symbol. The conversion data screen appears.
2. Press \/ or /\. The conversion data screen appears.
3. Repeatedly press \/ or /\ to select the US Dollars-to-Yen currency
conversion pair.
4. Use the number keys to add the cost (in yen) of both dolls
5. Press <. > changes to <, and the converted currency amount ($87.80
in US Dollars) appears below the current exchange rate at the bottom of
the screen.
