The EC-388's memory contains these pre-programmed conversion factors:

Conversion Units Factors

inch : centimeter (cm) 1:2.54
feet : meter (m) 1:0.3048
yard : meter (m) 1:0.9144
mile : kilometer (km) 1:1.6093
ounce : gram (g) 1:28.349
pound : kilogram (kg) 1:0.4536

You can convert values using these pre-programmed conversion factors (see
"Making Conversions" below), or store and use up to three other sets of
units and factors (see "Storing Additional Conversion Factors" below).

Making Conversions

Follow these steps to use the EC-388's conversion function.

1. Press CONV so Conversion? Appears on the display.

2. Repeatedly press \/ or /\ until the conversion factor that you want to
use (such as inch < > cm) appears on the display.

3. Type in the value you want to convert, then press > to convert from the
left to the right unit on the display (from inch to cm, for example), or
press < to convert from the right to the left unit (from cm to inch,
for example). The converted value appears on the display.

4. To convert another value using the same factor, repeat Step 3.

To convert another value using a different conversion factor, press
    ON/AC then repeat Steps 2 and 3.

Storing Additional Conversion Factors

Follow these steps to store up to three additional conversion factors in
the EC-388's memory.

1. Press CONV so Conversion? appears on the display.

2. Type in the name (up to five characters) of the first unit (such as
U.S. $) you want to store. When you type in the fifth character, the
cursor automatically moves to the next field on the display.

Notes: To type in numbers, punctuation, or symbols (such as $, # and so
on), remember to press A/N first.

If the first value you enter is less than five characters long, you
must press > to move the cursor to the next field.

3. Type in the name (up to five characters) of the second unit (such as
    Yen) then press /\ \/.

4. Enter the conversion factor, up to five digits (not including the dec-
imal), then press EXE to store the conversion factor.

Note: If you make a mistake, press Z/CE then enter the correct amount.

Editing/Deleting a Conversion Factor You Stored

Follow these steps to edit or delete a conversion factor you stored in the
EC-388's memory.

Note: You cannot edit or delete any of the EC-388's preprogrammed conver-
       sion factors.

1. Recall the conversion factor you want to edit or delete.

2. To delete the selected conversion factor, simply press DEL. Delete OK?
    appears.

To edit the selected conversion factor, press < or > so the cursor
flashes over the first character, then enter the desired characters or
press any other keys (such as DEL or INS) to edit.

3. Press EXE.

If you are deleting that factor, the Conversion? prompt appears.

Note: To cancel without deleting the selected factor, press any key
           other than EXE.

If you are editing, the edited conversion factor appears on the display.
