EC-382 128K Electronic Organizer w/Pager and Caller ID
(650-0842) Call Block Faxback Doc. # 45493

Call Block List

The EC-382 lets you selectively block incoming calls from unwanted callers
by adding or copying names/numbers to the Call Block List. When you receive
a call from someone whose name or number is on the Call Block List, the
phone rings one time then disconnects the call.

Entering Call Block Records

1. Press ENTER.

2. Press CALLER ID BLOCK LIST.

    You see:
               ----CALL BLOCK LIST---
               TYPE LAST - FIRST NAME
               TEL #

               TYPE IN NAME AND NUMBER
                 THEN PRESS "RETURN"

3. Type in the name of the person you want to block(up to 24 characters).
    Then press RETURN.

Note: You do not need to enter a name. If you do not know the caller's
name or do not want to enter a name, press RETURN to move to the
           TEL # field.

4. Type in the telephone number (up to 19 digits). Then press RETURN.
ADDITION TO CALL BLOCK LIST CONFIRMED appears briefly.

Notes: You can type in a C (cellular phone number), F (fax number),
H (home number), P (pager number), or W (work number) as the
first character in the TEL # field. (The letter is ignored when
           the organizer dials the number.)

If you do not type a number in the TEL # field, INVALID FILE
appears and the record is not stored.

5. Repeat Steps 3-4 to enter more records.

Recalling Call Block Records

Call Block records are stored in numeric order by the phone number.

1. Press CALLER ID BLOCK LIST. The first call block record appears.

    Example: ---CALL BLOCK LIST---
                  ABC COMPANY
                  TEL# 8057131377

                     TO VIEW FILES,
                  PRESS "NEXT" OR "LAST"

2. Press NEXT or LAST to view other records in numeric order.

Note: When you reach the last record, "END OF FILES, TO CONTINUE PRESS
RETURN" appears. Press RETURN. The organizer returns to the
           date and time display.

The EC-382 automatically blocks any call that matches an entry on the Call
Block List. The phone rings once, then the call is disconnected (see "Call
Block List" above). This is normal operation with Call Block off.

When you turn on Call Block, the EC-382 blocks calls that do not have a
name or number. This includes calls that appear as OUT OF AREA, ANONYMOUS,
and PRIVATE. (See "Turning Call Block On or OFF" on Faxback Doc. # 45487).

Caller ID

If you subscribe to Caller ID service and the Caller ID function is turned
on, your EC-382 automatically displays information about calls you receive
and stores the information in Caller ID memory. The EC-382 can store up to
99 incoming call records.

During an incoming call, the phone company automatically sends the current
date and time to update your organizer's date and time display.

Each call record shows five lines of caller information, including the
record number, the number of times that caller called, the caller's name,
the date and time of the call, and the phone number.

ie; --- CALLER ID LIST ---
             CALL #: #04 06X
             FROM : MONTANA JIM
             DATE : 8/06
             TIME : 5:34A
             TEL. #: 805-4861234

# (number of the call) - Shows the number of incoming calls stored in
memory. #01 is the oldest call.

(##) X - Shows how many times the caller called.

MM/DD - The date of the call in month-date format.

Notes: When the Caller ID memory is full, the oldest stored record is
deleted and the newest is stored.

When your EC-382's memory is full, no additional caller information
is stored. Delete records you do not need from your EC-382's memory
to be sure you have as much memory as possible available for Caller
        ID records.

If the last seven digits of an incoming call phone number match the
last seven digits of a phone number in a card file record, your
EC-382 displays the name as it appears in that card file record.

If the caller information matches a record in the Call Block List,
your EC-382 rings one time then disconnects the call. The organizer
stores the information in the Caller ID memory.

Caller ID Message Information

LINE ERROR - Appears if the caller information is not received com-
                  pletely.

OUT OF AREA - Appears if the caller is not within a Caller ID service
area, if call is operator assisted, or if the call is made
with a credit card. No caller information appears.

ANONYMOUS - Appears if the caller has prevented sending Caller ID
                  information. No caller information appears.

PRIVATE - Appears if the caller has prevented sending Caller ID
information and the call is designated "private" by the
                  caller. No caller information appears.

MESSAGE WAITING - Appears if you subscribe to your phone company's message
waiting service and a message is waiting.

UNKNOWN MESSAGE - Appears if the call information cannot be decoded or iden-
                  tified by the EC-382.

Reviewing Calls

Press CALL SUMMARY. You See:

               --- CALLER ID LIST ---
              CALL #: #04 06x
              From : MONTANA JIM

              TIME : 5:34A
              TEL # : 805-4861234

Then the EC-382 shows all call records one after the other for about 2
seconds each, from the most recent to the oldest.

Notes: On the call summary screen, NEW refers to the number of calls you
have not reviewed and TOTAL refers to the number of records you
        have already reviewed.

To pause scanning, press CALL SUMMARY. To resume scanning, press
        CALL SUMMARY again.

To review call records manually, press /\ or \/ to scroll through the
records in date and time order while scanning is paused.

Note: When you reach the end of the records, END OF CALLER ID LISTING
appears. Then the organizer returns to the date and time display.

To check whether the call record's phone number matches one in a card file,
press CARD FILE. If there is a matching card file record, that card file
record appears. If there is no matching card file record, NO MATCH appears.

To stop scanning, press any other mode key.

Copying Caller ID Records

You can copy Caller ID records to the Card File, Call Block List, or Speed
Dial List. Call records that do not have the caller's name cannot be copied
to the Card File or the Speed Dial List.

Note: You can only copy those call records that have telephone numbers. For
instance, you cannot copy an anonymous call.

1. Recall the Caller ID record.

2. Press CALLER ID COPY TO. You see:

            1. CARD FILE
            2. CALL BLOCK LIST

ADDITION TO SPEED DIAL LIST CONFIRMED appears briefly. If the record
you want to copy does not have the caller's name, INVALID FILE, FILE
WILL NOT COPY TO SPEED DIAL LIST appears briefly.

Auto-Dialing A Caller ID Number

If you have touch-tone service, follow these steps to dial a phone number
stored in a Caller ID record.

1. Recall the Caller ID record.

2. Lift the telephone's handset (or press the appropriate button on the
phone for hands-free operation) and listen for a dial tone.

3. Press AUTO DIAL. The organizer dials that record's telephone number.

Note: If the telephone number is within your area code but you are required
to dial 1 plus the area code to dial the call, you must copy the
Caller ID record to the Card File (see "Copying Caller ID Records"
above and add 1 to the telephone number, see "Editing a Record" below.
Then use the Card File record to dial.

You can set the EC-382 to automatically forward Caller ID numbers to a
pager. (See "Pager Forwarding Setup" on Faxback Doc. # 45487).

If page forwarding is turned on and someone picks up an extension phone,
the Caller ID number will not be forwarded to the pager, and anyone on the
line will hear the sound of the EC-382 trying to dial out. To avoid this,
turn off pager forwarding.

If pager forwarding is turned on and an answering machine picks up the line,
the Caller ID number will not be forwarded to the pager, and the answering
machine will record the sound of the EC-382 trying to dial out. To avoid
this, we recommend you connect the answering machine's modular cord to the
EC-382's PHONE jack.
