Card File Records
Each card file record can hold up to 55 lines of information. The maximum
length for the person's name is 24 characters; the company's name, 24
characters, the phone number, 19 digits; and the FAX number, 19 digits. You
can use the remaining 51 lines for any additional information you want to
enter.
For example:

This record uses about 126 memory units, including spaces, punctuation, and
overhead. You could enter about 1,017 records of this length.
You can use the auto-dialer to call a number that is stored in the card file
(see "Auto-dialing a Card File Number" below).
This section describes how to enter and recall card file records. To edit a
card file record, see "Editing a Record" on Faxback Doc. #45494. To delete
one or all card file records, see "Deleting a Record" on Faxback Doc.

Entering Card File Records
1. Press ENTER.
2. Press CARD FILE. You see:
TYPE LAST-FIRST NAME
COMPANY NAME
TEL#
FAX#
ADDRESS-CITY-STATE-ZIP
AND ADDITIONAL INFO.
3. Type in the name you want to store. Press RETURN.
Notes: If you want to recall records in alphabetical order by last
name, type in the person's last name first.
If you do not want to enter a company name, telephone number,
FAX number, or any additional information, press ENTER at any
time to store the record.
4. Type in the company's name. Press RETURN.
5. Type in the telephone number you want to store. Press RETURN.
6. Type in the FAX number. Press RETURN.
7. Type in the address or any other information you want to store.
8. To store more card file records, press ENTER to store the record and
repeat steps 3-7.
To enter another mode, press any mode key to store the record and enter
that mode.
Notes: If you entered a space, number, or symbol (for example #, -, +)
as the first character of the name, INVALID FILE appears and the
record is not stored. The first character of the name must be a
letter.
When the person's name you entered matches one in an existing
record, CREATE DUPLICATE? Y/N appears. if you want to create a
duplicate record, Press Y. If not, press N.
Recalling Card File Records
Card File records are stored in alphanumeric order by name and company name.
You can recall card file records by rotary, sequential, index or Pager ID
recall.
Notes: Card file records are cross-referenced by both the person's and the
company's name.
The number of card file records stored appears on the display when
you press CARD FILE.
If the record you are viewing is longer than six lines, press
LAST or /\ to move UP and NEXT or \/ to move down through the
information. The person's name remains on the top line of the
display.
If you are viewing a duplicate record, DUPLICATE appears at the
bottom of the display.

Rotary Recall
Rotary recall lets you recall records using the rotary knob.
1. Press CARD FILE. The available memory display appears.

2. Turn the rotary knob on the right side of the organizer forward or
backward to quickly "flip" through your card file records.
3. To exit, press any mode key.
Sequential Recall
Sequential recall lets you recall records using the arrow keys.
1. Press CARD FILE.
2. Press > to see the first or < to see the last record.
3. Hold down > to scroll forward or < to scroll backward through the name
and company portion of your records in alphanumeric order. When you
release > or <, the file appears.
4. To exit, press any mode key.
Index Recall
Index recall lets you recall records by a person's or company's name.
Note: When the organizer displays the date and time, you can directly start
index recall by typing in the first letter in the desired card file
(see Step 2).
1. If the date and time is not displayed, press CARD FILE.
2. Type in the first letter of the person's or company's name. The record
that starts with the specified letter appears.
If no record starts with the letter you typed, NO FILE MATCH PLEASE
TRY AGAIN appears.
If more than one record begins with the specified letter, PLEASE TYPE
NEXT LETTER appears.
If you do not type in the next character, after about 2 seconds the
organizer displays the first record that starts with the specified
letter. To avoid the 2-second pause, press >.
If the displayed record is not the one you want, press > to scroll
through the records.
3. To exit, press any mode key.
Pager ID Recall
Pager ID recall lets you recall records by a phone number.
1. Press CARD FILE twice. TYPE IN A TELEPHONE NO. TO VIEW THE ASSOCIATED
CARD FILE appears.
2. Type in the last few digits (up to 19) of the phone number you want to
find. For example, to find the number 555-1234, you could type in 1234
234, and so on.
After you type in the first digit, you see:

PLEASE TYPE NEXT NUMBER
THEN PRESS "RETURN"
3. The first matching file appears.
If no record ends with the digits you typed, NO FILE MATCH PLEASE TRY
AGAIN appears.
If the displayed record is not the one you want, press < or > to
scroll through other matching records.
4. To exit, press any mode key.
Auto-Dialing A Card File Number
If you have touch-tone service, the EC-382 can also dial a phone number you
have entered in a card file record.
Follow these steps to auto-dial a phone number stored in a card file
record's TEL # field.
1. Recall the record with the telephone number you want to dial (see "Re-
calling Card File Records" above).
2. Lift the telephone's handset (or press the appropriate button on the
phone for hands-free operation) and listen for a dial tone.
3. Press AUTO DIAL to dial the number.
