Turning The Directory ON/OFF

To turn on the directory, press ON/Off.  The directory's time/date display
and a face appears.

To change this face from a boy to a girl or a girl to a boy, press ENTER.

The directory automatically turns off if you do not press a key for about
4 minutes.  To turn it off sooner, press ON/OFF again.

FULL, appears when memory is full.  You must delete records before you can
store new ones.

Turning The Beep ON/OFF

You can set the directory to beep each time you press a key.

To turn on the beep while the date and time appear, press (musical note).

To turn off the beep while the date and time appear, press (musical note)
again.

Choosing The Language

The directory can display messages in 6 different languages: English,
French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

1.  While the time date appear, press L.  The currently selected language
    appears.

2.  Press /\ or \/ to choose the language you want to use.

3.  Press ENTER.

Setting/Viewing The Date/Time

The directory shows the day of the week, month, date, and time each time
you turn it on.  To see the date and time when they are not showing, press
CLOCK.

When you see the time and date, you can:

   Press M/D to select month/day or D/M to select day/month.

   Press 12/24 to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour format.

To set the date and time, follow these steps.

1.  If you do not see the date and time, press CLOCK.

2.  Hold down STORE until the first digit of the date flashes.

3.  Enter the current date and time.

    For example, to set the date and time to January 1, 1998, at 11 AM,
    press 01 01 98 11 00.

    Note: If the time is in the 12-hour format, press P for PM or A for AM.

4.  Use /\ and \/ to set the day of the week.

5.  When everything is set, press ENTER.

Using The Phone Directory

You can enter a person's name, address and telephone number into each
telephone record and add a fun face next to it.

You can store up to 23 telephone records (with 32 characters per name/
address and 12 digits per phone number).

Entering Telephone Records

1.  Press TEL. SEARCH and the telephone icon appears.  Then press STORE.
    NAME? appears.

2.  Enter the person's name and any other information you want to keep
    (such as an address).

    Notes:  Information is stored in alphabetical order.  To make it easier
            to search for information later, enter last names first.

            If numbers are in the information, press SHIFT before entering
            each number.

3.  Press ENTER.  TEL? appears.

4.  Enter the phone number, then press ENTER.  A face appears and its eye-
    brows flash.

    Note: You can only enter numbers and the dash (-) when you are entering
          a phone number, and you do not have to press SHIFT before the
          numbers in this step.

5.  To add a face to the record, use /\ or \/ to make the desired feature
    flash, then press (left or right arrow) to show the options.  You can
    change the eyebrows, hair style, eyes, mouth and add a dimple.  Press
    \/ to see the result.

6.  To skip adding a fun face or when you are happy with the face you have
    added, press ENTER.  SEARCH appears.

Recalling Telephone Records

Press TEL.  SEARCH appears.  Use /\ and \/ to scroll through the telephone
records.

You can also search for a telephone record by a person's name.  When the
directory displays SEARCH, enter the first few letters (up to 11) of the
name you are looking for.  Then press /\ or \/.  The directory displays the
first record that starts with those letters.

Notes:  If there is no matching record, the directory displays the next
        record in alphabetical order.

        If you entered more text than will fit on the display, (right
        arrow) appears at the end of the first line.  Press (right arrow)
        to see the rest of the text.  Press (left arrow) to see the begin-
        ning of the text.

Editing Telephone Records

Follow these steps to change a telephone record.

1.  Recall the telephone record you want to edit.

2.  Press EDIT.  The first letter of the name flashes.

3.  Use (right arrow) to select the character you want to edit.

4.  Press Del to delete a character.  Type to add new characters.  Press
    ENTER when you are finished.  The first digit of the phone number
    flashes.

5.  Type the correct phone number over the old one.  You can also delete
    the whole number by pressing Del.

6.  Press ENTER.  The fun face eyebrows flash.  Change the fun face or
    press ENTER.

Deleting a Fun Face

1.  Recall the telephone record with the fun face you want to delete, then
    press EDIT.

2.  Keep pressing ENTER until the face's eyebrows flash.

3.  Keep pressing \/ until the face disappears.

4.  Press ENTER.

Deleting Telephone Records

1.  Recall the telephone record you want to delete.

2.  Press Del.  DELETE? appears on the display.

3.  If you want to delete the record, press ENTER.  Otherwise, press Del
    again.

MEMOS

You can use your directory to help you keep track of just about anything.

Entering a Memo

1.  Press MEMO.  MEMO and the (memo icon) appear.  Then press STORE.
    MEMO? appears.

2.  Type your memo (up to 32 characters). Then press ENTER. MEMO appears.

Recalling a Memo

Press MEMO. MEMO appears.  Use /\ and \/ to scroll through the memos.

Note:  If you enter a long message, you can only see first the 12 charac-
       ters.  To see the rest of the message, press (right arrow).  To see
       the beginning of the message again, press (left arrow).

Editing a Memo

1.  Recall the message you want to edit.

2.  Press EDIT.  The first letter of the message flashes.

3.  Use (right arrow) to select the letter you want to edit.

4.  Press Del to delete a character.  Type to add new characters.  Press
    ENTER when you are finished.

    Note:  Typing characters in the middle of the line could delete the
           characters at the end of the line.

Deleting a Memo

1.  Recall the memo you want to delete.

2.  Press Del.  DELETE? appears.

3.  To delete the memo, press ENTER.  Otherwise, press Del again.

Using The Calculator

To use the calculator, press CAL.  You see:  CALCULATOR
                                                        0.

For standard calculations press the keys in the order they appear on paper.
For example, press 2 + 3=.  The answer appears after you press =.

For square calculations, such as 4^2, press 4 x =.

Notes:  If you enter the wrong operator symbol (+, -, x, /), simply press
        the correct one to replace it.

        Press C/CE once to cancel the last entry.  To clear the display for
        the next calculation, press C/CE twice.

        If you try to make an invalid calculation (like dividing by zero),
        the calculator displays E (error). Press C/CE or CAL and start your
        calculation over.

Using The Alarm

When the alarm is on, the directory beeps for 15 seconds at the set time
(even if the directory is off).  Press any key to silence the alarm sooner.
The alarm sounds at the same time the next day, unless you turn it off.

Note:  Since pressing a key turns off the alarm, the alarm might not sound
       if you are entering information at the set alarm time.

Follow these steps to change the alarm time and turn the alarm on or off.

1.  While the time and date appear, press X.  ALARM?, the set alarm time,
    and the (alarm icon) appear.

2.  To change the alarm time, hold down STORE until the first digit of the
    alarm time flashes.  Then enter the desired alarm time and press ENTER.

    Note:  If you are using the 12-hour time format, press A or P to select
           AM or PM.

3.  To turn on the alarm, press Z so O appears next to the alarm time.
    To turn off the alarm, press Z so O disappears.

4.  Press CLOCK.  The directory returns to the time and date, and O appears
    if the alarm is turned on.

Using The Secret Code

The directory's secret code lets you keep others from reading your phone
records and memos.  When you set a secret code, you must enter it before
you can get into your records.

Locking Your Directory

1.  Press LOCK, LOCK - - - - and the (lock icon) appear.

2.  Type a 4-number code.  Then press ENTER.  UNLOCK appears.

3.  Press ON/OFF.

CAUTION:  Be sure to use a secret code you can remember. If you forget
          your secret code, you have to delete everything you stored (see
          "Resetting the Memory" on Faxback Doc. # 45277) to use your
          directory again.

Unlocking Your Directory

Once you enter a secret code, you must type in your code to unlock the
directory when you want to use it.  UNLOCK appears on the display if you
choose TEL or MEMO.  Type in your secret code and press ENTER to see your
records.  Your directory stays unlocked until you lock it again.
