TURNING ON/OFF THE EC-366
You can press any of these keys to turn on the EC-366:
CONTACTS
TIME/DATE
SCHEDULE
CALC/CE
The EC-366 automatically turns off if you do not press a key for at least
4 minutes.
USING THE KEY TONE
You can set your EC-366 to sound a key tone (beep) each time you press a
key. Follow these steps to turn the key tone on or off at any time.
1. Press TIME/DATE. The last known day, time, and date appear on the
display.
2. To turn on the key tone, press and hold the period (.) key until the
EC-366 beeps once.
To turn off the key tone, press and hold the period (.) key until the
EC-366 beeps twice.
CHECKING/SETTING THE DAY, TIME, AND DATE
To display the day, time, and date at any time, press TIME/DATE.
To change the day, time, and/or date, follow these steps.
Notes:
If you make a mistake in steps 2-5, simply start again at step 1.
To enter a single digit (1-9) in steps 3 and 5, press 0 first. For example,
to enter 8, press 0 then 8.
To keep the existing day/date or time setting, you can skip steps 3 or 5.
1. Press TIME/DATE. The last known day, time, and date appear on the
display.
2. Press and hold TIME/DATE until the last known day, date, and THEN PRESS
ENTER appear on the display.
3. Use the number keys to enter the month, day, and year, then press REW
or FWD to change the day of the week backward or forward.
4. Press ENTER to store the day and date. The last known time and THEN
PRESS ENTER appear on the display.
5. Use the number keys to enter the current time, then press A for AM or
P for PM.
6. Press ENTER to store the time. The day, time, and date you just set
appear on the display.
STORAGE CAPACITY
Your EC-366 can store a total of 3,070 units of information in its memory.
Each letter, number, space or other character you store uses about 1
memory unit. Each file you store uses about 3 memory units for overhead.
For example, a file containing SMITH RODNEY 555-1212 would uses 24 memory
units.
To view the amount of memory remaining, press CONTACTS or SCHEDULE. The
number of available memory units for all functions appears on the lower
right side of the display.
Note: FULL appears on the display if no storage space is available. Delete
contact or schedule reminder files to free additional storage space.
DATA ENTRY TIPS
Use the contact files to store personal or company names and phone or fax
numbers.
The EC-366 sorts contact files by the first few characters in the subject
line.
If you want to recall files in alphabetical order by last name, enter the
person's last name first on the subject line.
Use the schedule reminder files to record appointments or reminders.
Schedule reminder files are stored and sorted in chronological order (by
date then time).
Press SPACE to enter a space.
You cannot enter a space or a number as the first digit of a contact or
schedule reminder file.
To enter a hyphen in a phone or fax number, press the minus (-) key.
You cannot enter a letter or a space in a phone or fax number.
Press ERASE to erase the last character entered.
You must enter double-digit numbers for the date and time. For example,
to enter the date and time for June 14, 1996, at 1:15 in the afternoon,
you would type 061496 for the date and 0115 for the time followed by a P
(for PM).
Using abbreviations lets you store more files.
SCROLLING FORWARD/BACKWARD THROUGH FILES
To scroll backward or forward through contact or schedule files, press
REW or FWD. Each time you press the key, the EC-366 displays the
previous or next file.
Note: Press and hold REW or FWD to scroll rapidly backward or forward.
MOVING THE CURSOR
The - on the screen is called a "cursor." The cursor appears when you
edit records and blinks below the character you are currently editing.
When the cursor appears on the display, press VIEW FILE to move the cursor
to the right along a text line, or press FWD to move the cursor to the
other line.
Note: Press and hold VIEW FILE to move the cursor rapidly along the
telephone number line.
CONTACT FILES
Each contact file consists of a subject line that can be up to 64 characters
long, and a telephone or fax number line of up to 12 characters (including
hyphens).
For example:
Subject Line:
SMITH.HOWARD-SMITH TOOLS
Telephone or Fax Number Line:
817-555-9382
This example file uses about 40 memory units, including spaces, punctuation,
and overhead. You could enter about 76 files of this length.
Note: Although the subject line of both contact and schedule files can be
up to 64 characters long, the EC-366 can only display 12 characters
of that line at a time.
If REW and/or FWD appears on the left side of the display, this means the
subject line is longer than 12 characters.
To view the rest of that line, repeatedly press VIEW FILE. Each time you
press it, the subject line shifts one character to the left on the display.
Press and hold VIEW FILE to rapidly scroll the line across the display.
ENTERING CONTACT FILES
1. Press CONTACTS. CONTACTS and NAME? appear on the display.
2. Press ENTER. THEN PRESS ENTER appears on the display.
3. Enter the information (such as the individual and/or company name) you
want to store on the subject line.
4. Press ENTER. ENTER TEL.# appears on the display.
5. Enter the telephone or fax number you want to store.
6. Press ENTER to store the contact file. The NAME? prompt reappears.
Repeat steps 2-6 for each contact file you want to store.
RECALLING CONTACT FILES
1. Press CONTACTS. CONTACTS and NAME? appear on the display.
2. If you want to scroll backward or forward through the files in
alphabetical order, press REW or FWD.
If you want to recall a specific file, enter either the first few
letters (up to seven) of the person's/company's name or the last 4
digits of the phone/fax number, then press REW or FWD. The EC-366
displays the first contact file that starts with the character(s) or
ends with the digits you entered.
Notes:
If no file starts with the characters you entered, the EC-366 recalls the
next record in alphanumeric order, based on the search character(s) you
entered. If no file ends with the digits you entered, CONTACTS and NAME?
reappear.
If more than one file starts with the characters or ends with the digits
you entered, press FWD to scroll forward through the matching entries.
If needed, you can enter up to the last 7 digits of the fax/phone number.
EDITING CONTACT FILES
Note: If you make a mistake during steps 2 or 3, simply press CONTACTS,
then start over again at step 1.
1. Recall the contact file you want to change.
2. Press ERASE. The cursor blinks under the first character of the
subject line, and that character flashes.
3. To edit beginning with the first character, simply enter the new
characters.
Or, press VIEW FILE repeatedly to move the cursor to the first
character you want to change, then enter the new characters.
Each time you press a key, the new character replaces the old one and
the cursor moves to the next character on the right.
4. To move to the phone/fax number line, press FWD. The cursor blinks
under the first character of that line, and that character flashes.
5. Repeat step 3 to edit the phone/fax number.
6. Press ENTER to save your changes to the file. The NAME? prompt
reappears.
DELETING CONTACT FILES
1. Recall the contact file you want to delete.
2. Press and hold ERASE until DELETE? Y/N appears on the display.
3. Press Y (yes) to delete the file or N (no) to cancel.
SCHEDULE FILES
Each schedule reminder file can be up to 64 characters long. The number
of files you can store depends on how much memory is available.
At each preset schedule reminder time, the EC-366 sounds an alarm for 1
minute and displays the associated reminder file. To stop the alarm while
it is sounding, you can press any key.
Notes:
If you press a key (while entering data, for example) at the exact same
time a schedule reminder alarm is set to sound, the alarm might not sound
and the reminder file might not appear.
If a schedule reminder time is reached while you are entering data, your
data might not be stored.
To remove an expired schedule reminder from the EC-366's memory, you must
manually delete it.
Although the subject line of both contact and schedule files can be up to
64 characters long, the EC-366 can only display 12 characters of that line
at a time.
If < or > appears on the left side of the display, this means the subject
line is longer than 12 characters. To view the rest of that line,
repeatedly press VIEW FILE. Each time you press it, the subject line
shifts one character to the left on the display.
Press and hold VIEW FILE to rapidly scroll the line across the display.
ENTERING SCHEDULE REMINDERS
1. Press SCHEDULE. SCHEDULE and SCHEDULE? appear on the display.
2. Press ENTER. THEN PRESS ENTER appears on the display.
3. Enter the desired schedule reminder information (such as the event or
meeting name) you want to store.
4. Press ENTER. The current date and time appear on the display below
the reminder information.
5. Enter the date and time when you want the alarm to sound, then press
A or P for AM or PM.
6. Press ENTER to store the reminder. The SCHEDULE? prompt reappears.
Repeat steps 2-6 for each reminder you want to store.
RECALLING SCHEDULE REMINDER FILES
1. Press SCHEDULE. SCHEDULE and SCHEDULE? appear on the display.
2. To recall the latest record first, press <REW. Press it repeatedly
to scroll backwards (chronologically) through the stored reminders.
To recall the earliest record first, press >FWD. Press it repeatedly
to scroll forward through the stored reminders.
EDITING SCHEDULE REMINDER FILES
Note: If you make a mistake during steps 2 or 3, simply press SCHEDULE,
then start over again at step 1.
1. Recall the schedule reminder file you want to change.
2. Press ERASE. The cursor blinks under the first character of the
reminder subject line, and that character flashes.
3. To edit beginning with the first character, simply enter the new
characters.
Or, press VIEW FILE repeatedly to move the cursor to the first
character you want to change, then enter the new characters.
Each time you press a key, the new character replaces the old one and
the cursor moves to the next character on the right.
4. To move to the date and time line, press >FWD. The cursor blinks under
the first character of that line, and that character flashes.
5. Repeat steps 3 to edit the date and time.
6. Press ENTER to save your changes to the file. The SCHEDULE? prompt
reappears.
DELETING SCHEDULE REMINDER FILES
1. Recall the schedule reminder file you want to delete.
2. Press and hold ERASE until DELETE? Y/N appears on the display.
3. Press Y (yes) to delete the file or N (no) to cancel.
DAILY ALARM
You can set the EC-366 so it sounds an alarm at the same time every day.
When the set daily alarm time is reached, the EC-366 sounds an alarm for
1 minute. To stop the alarm while it is sounding, press any key.
Notes:
If the EC-366 is off when the daily alarm sounds, it turns on and displays
the last function used. For example, if the last function you used was
SCHEDULE, the EC-366 displays the SCHEDULE? prompt when it turns on.
If you press a key (while entering data, for example) at the exact time the
daily alarm is set to sound, the alarm might not sound.
Follow these steps to set the daily alarm time and turn on the alarm.
1. Press TIME/DATE. The current day, time, and date appear on the display.
2. Press ALARM. The last set alarm time appears on the display.
3. Press ENTER. THEN PRESS ENTER appears on the display.
4. Enter the desired alarm time, then press A or P for AM or PM.
Note: If you enter an invalid or incorrect time, start over again at
step 1.
5. Press ENTER again. The alarm time is stored, and the alarm icon
appears on the display along with the current day, time, and date. This
means the alarm is turned on and will sound at the preset time.
Notes:
To change the daily alarm time, repeat these steps.
To set the EC-366 so it does not sound the preset daily alarm, press TIME/
DATE, then press ALARM twice. The alarm icon disappears from the display.
LOCK
For privacy, you can set the EC-366 so all information can be accessed only
by entering a numeric password.
Note: Choose a password you can easily remember, however, you can reset
the EC-366 and store a new one.
TURNING ON LOCK
Follow these steps to set your password and turn on the lock feature.
1. Press TIME/DATE so the current day, time, and date appear on the
display, then press LOCK. LOCK and four dashes (----) appear on the
display.
2. Enter any four digit number from 000-9999. Each number replaces a dash
on the display as you enter it.
When you enter the last number, the day, time, date, and the key icon
appear on the display. This means the EC-366's lock feature is turned
on.
USING THE EC-366 WITH LOCK TURNED ON
If you press CONTACTS or SCHEDULE while the key icon appears on the display,
LOCKED and four dashes (----) appear on the display. To add, edit, or
delete files, you must enter the correct numeric password first.
After you enter the correct password, the key icon disappears and you can
add, edit, or delete files as usual.
After you finish, you can let the EC-366 turn off automatically. The lock
features stays on and the key icon appears again the next time someone
turns on the EC-366.
Or, to reactivate the lock feature so no one can see your files before the
EC-366 turns off, simply press TIME/DATE then LOCK so the key icon, LOCKED,
and four dashes (----) appear on the display.
TURNING OFF LOCK
Follow these steps to turn off the EC-366's lock feature.
1. Press TIME/DATE so the day, time, date, and key icon appear on the
display, then press LOCK. LOCKED and four dashes (----) appear on the
display.
2. Enter the correct four-digit password. LOCK and four dashes (----), and
the key icon disappears. The lock feature is turned off.
Note: Turning off the lock feature clears your password from the EC-366's
memory. The next time you turn on the lock feature, you can use the
same password again or enter a new one.
CALCULATOR
To use your EC-366 to perform standard arithmetic calculations, press
CALC/CE.
CALCULATOR TIPS
Press CALC/CE once to cancel the last entry, or press it twice to clear the
display for the next calculation.
If the result of a calculation is more than 10 digits long or if you try to
divide a number by 0, E appears. If this happens, press CALC/CE twice to
clear the display.
STANDARD CALCULATIONS
To perform a standard calculation, press the keys in the order the
calculation would appear on paper. For example:
You Press: The display shows:
3 + 4 = 7.
8 x 3 - 4 = 20.
6 ö 3 + 2 = 4.
SQUARED CALCULATIONS
To perform squared calculations, simply press the number, x, then =.
For example, to calculate 4ý:
You Press The display shows:
4 x = 16.
