Voice Organizer
(650-0728) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 40035

Charge Batteries

Plug your Voice Organizer charger into any electrical outlet. Plug the
charger cord into the charging base. Place the Voice Organizer in the
charging base. Fully charge the Organizer by leaving it in the charger
overnight (or for at least eight hours); otherwise, you might fail to get
advance warning of when to recharge.

Note that the charger can be plugged either into the base or into the
Organizer itself. When the charger is properly inserted in the base, and
the Organizer is plugged into the charging base, the green light in the
base turns on. The green light tells you that the Organizer is charging.

If, while the unit is charging for the first time, the display lights up
but does not show the date and time, or the Organizer fails to respond to
button presses, you may have to reset your Organizer.

The compact charger has been designed for your desk or dresser to make
daily charging convenient. Note that you can still use the unit while it
is recharging. An optional portable charger is available for travel,
briefcase or for use in your automobile.

Under typical use, with a full charge, you can carry the Voice Organizer for
several days without recharging it, depending upon the number of messages
you record and play every day. However, the Voice Organizer is designed
to be stored in its charger daily whenever you're not using it (just as
you would a portable phone). That way, it will always be charged.

IMPORTANT: If you begin with a full charge and store the unit in the
charger base for two hours a day, you should never need a major
recharge. Otherwise, the Voice Organizer's display will
indicate when you have only 24 hours of normal use left. At
that time, you must recharge the unit.

Engaging the Backup Batteries

Once you have charged the main batteries in your Voice Organizer, you must
remove a small plastic tab to engage the backup batteries. A very thin
plastic film tab sticks out from under the battery door at the back of the
Organizer about half an inch below the volume control. Pull this tab out,
being careful not to tear the tab.

Set Clock

You'll set the Voice Organizer's clock for the correct time and date by
pushing a few buttons. When the instructions say Hold, you need to hold
down the button. The instructions then tell you how long to hold it, or
when to release it. When the instructions say Press, you merely need to
press and immediately release the button.

Setting Clock

1. Hold the EDIT button until you hear the double beep. The screen says
SET CLOCK and the hours flash.

Set Digits

2. Hour - Press PREV or NEXT to scroll through the digits to find the
current hour. Notice each number has both an AM and PM version,
be sure to stop on the correct one.

3. Minutes - Press the EDIT button to move to the minutes. Press PREV or
NEXT to find the correct minutes.

4. Date - Continue to press the EDIT button using PREV and/or NEXT to set
the correct month (by number, 1-12), day and year.

5. Press the EDIT button to review the entire setting.

6. Press the SAVE button to finish setting the clock, or press STOP to
    exit without saving.

The screen returns to its standard display, showing the current time, day
and date. (Verify AM/PM and the day of the week.)

Train the Organizer to Recognize Your Voice

You will be pronouncing a list of 37 words into the Organizer - words you
will later use to tell the Organizer when to beep you, to enter names,
dates and phone numbers, etc.

Guidelines

In a quiet place, hold the Organizer 4-6 inches from, and aligned directly
with, your mouth. The Organizer screen will display one word at a time.
As it does, say each word aloud clearly and in the same way you will say
it later when speaking into the Organizer. Avoid speaking too softly or
loudly.

Once you have completed saying all the words, the Organizer screen will
prompt you to say them again for verification. (The spelling of some words
has been shortened to allow them to fit on the screen.)

NOTE: Speak clearly, but pronounce the words the way you normally say
them. For example, when you see "eleven" you normally say
"uh-LEV-un," say "uh-LEV-un" during your voice training, not
       "EE-LEV-un."

Voice Recognition Training

Press the TRAIN button to start. `ZERO' flashes on the display.

Hold down the TIME button while speaking the words.

Say the words appearing on the Organizer display - clearly and in a normal
tone of voice - while continuing to hold down the TIME button.

If you wish to pause between words, simply release the button and hold
again (within 30 seconds) to resume.

Release the TIME button when `SAVED' scrolls across the screen, indicating
your voice pattern is now stored in the Organizer.

Retraining

Especially in the beginning, you may find that a few words are
misrecognized. If so, these words can be retrained. Retraining some words
may also be necessary as you gain familiarity with your Organizer. You may
also wish to retrain all words after you begin to feel comfortable using
the Voice Organizer and have developed a more natural style of speaking
into it.

IMPORTANT: You have now completed set up. Before you begin using your
Voice Organizer, it is important to review "Operation,"
Faxback Doc. # 40036. You'll find everything you need to get
            off to a fast start.
