USING THE SCHEDULER

The scheduler reminds you of appointments, anniversaries, and other
important events. You can store a date and time, along with a memo of up
to 40 characters, and have the memo appear only once or be repeated
annually.

At the time you choose, the scheduler sounds a series of tones for about
20 seconds, the alarm icon flashes, and the stored memo (if any) appears.

Records are stored in date/time order, with the earliest date/time first.

ENTERING A SCHEDULER RECORD

1. Press ENTER, then SCHEDULER. The ENTER MEMO display appears, with a
flashing cursor beneath the first M in the date field.

2. Enter the month, day, year, hour, and minute of the event. Then press
A for AM, or P for PM.

    Note:

6. Press Y to have the memo repeated annually, or N to have the memo
appear only once. The memo is automatically stored and the ENTER MEMO
    display reappears.

alarm icon flashes, and the EC-383 displays the memo. Press any number or
letter key or SCHEDULER to stop the alarm sooner.

USING CONTACT FILES

Use contact files to store names, telephone numbers, and any additional
information. Files are stored and retrieved by the first few letters
entered on the first line, so you might want to enter a contact's last
name first.

Each contact file can hold up to 160 characters of information. The
maximum length for the contacts name is 20 characters' for the first and
second telephone number (s), 40 digits each; and for the address or any
other information, 60 characters. For example:

Name: SMITH HOWARD

First Telephone: 817-555-9382

Second Telephone: 817-555-2774

Other Information: 2738 WINDSTONE AVE FT WORTH TX 76102

This vile uses about 90 memory units, including the overhead.
Using abbreviations lets you store more contact files.

You can enter #, *, or - as part of a Contact File. But, you cannot enter
* or # in the name or address/miscellaneous fields (only in the telephone
number fields), or enter - as the first character in the name field. If
you try to, INVALID FILE PLEASE TRY AGAIN appears. You must correct the
entry.

ENTERING A CONTACT FILE

    number sign (#), press Z/#.

3. Press Y to delete the file or N to cancel the deletion.

USING CALLER ID

If you subscribe to Caller ID service from your local phone company, the
system automatically displays information about calls you receive and
stores the information in Caller ID memory. The system can store up to
99 incoming call records.

The first line of the incoming call record shows the number of the call,
date, time, and number of times the caller has called. The second line
shows the caller's name (if available in your area and you subscribe to
it). The third line shows the caller's phone number.

    Notes:

The second line of the system's display might show additional
information about the call (see "Caller ID Display Information").

When Caller ID memory is full, a new incoming call replaces the oldest
    stored record.

Caller ID, Contact File, and Scheduler records all share the same
memory, so when the organizer's memory is full, no Caller ID files can
be received. Delete records you don't need from the Contact Files
and Scheduler to be sure you have as much memory as possible available
    for Caller ID records.

During an incoming call, the phone company automatically sends the
    current time.

CALLER ID DISPLAY INFORMATION

                 # (number of the call) - Shows the number of incoming
calls stored in memory. #01 is
the oldest call. If there are
                                          multiple calls from the same
number, the EC-383 does not make
a separate entry for each call.

                                  (#) X - Shows how many calls the EC-383
                                          has received from a telephone
                                          number. For example, 2X
                                          indicates the second call from
                                          that number.

OUT OF AREA - Appears if the caller is not
within a Caller ID service area,
                                          or during operator-assisted
calls or calls made with a
                                          credit card.

MESSAGE WAITING - Appears if you subscribe to
                                          message waiting service and
                                          a message is waiting.

LINE ERROR - Appears if there is a data error
                                          in the Caller ID transmission.

ANONYMOUS - Appears instead of the phone
number if the caller has chosen
                                          to block sending of their
                                          Caller ID information.

UNKNOWN MESSAGE - Appears when the Caller ID
                                          receives a message other than
                                          those messages listed above.

REVIEWING CALLS

Press CALLER I.D./REVIEW. The CALL SUMMARY display appears for about
2 seconds. Then Caller ID records appear for about 2 seconds each,
starting with the most recent call, until all records have been displayed.

If you pressed ENTER and SELECT ENTRY MODE appears, press
CALLER I.D./REVIEW twice to access the Caller ID screen.

To view records manually, press VIEW FILES Up Arrow or Down Arrow or
    turn the rotary knob.

Whichever viewing method you use, - END OF LIST - appears after the
    last stored call record.

    Note:

If a Caller ID record has a phone number that matches a number in a
Contact File, the name from the Contact File is automatically copied
    to the Caller ID record.

COPYING A CALLER ID RECORD

You can copy a Caller ID record to a Contact File or the Call Block list.

    the display.

USING THE AUTO-DIALER

The auto-dialer lets you dial a telephone number stored in the contact
files or Caller ID memory.

1. Recall the record of the person or company you want to dial.

    Note:

The first telephone umber with the flashing arrow is the number that
will be dialed. If you want to dial the second telephone number of
the file, press <- to move the flashing arrow to the next telephone
    number.

2. Lift the telephone's handset (or press the appropriate button on the
    phone for hands-free operation).

3. Press AUTO-DIAL. The selected telephone number dials out.

    Notes:

If the telephone number has the same area code that you stored in the
EC-383, the EC-383 does not dial the area code as it dials.

If the telephone number has a different area code than what you stored
in the EC-383, the EC-383 automatically adds 1 and the area code as it
    dials.

If the telephone number is within your area code but requires you to
add 1 plus the area code to dial the call, you must copy the Caller ID
record to the Contact Files and add 1 to the telephone number. Then
use the Contact File to dial out.

USING CALL BLOCK

The EC-383 blocks incoming calls from specific callers if you put their
names or numbers in the EC-383's call block list. When you receive a call
from someone whose name or number is on the Call block list, the phone
rings only once, then the call is disconnected. The Caller ID information
still appears.

    Note:

To identify the type of telephone number, you can enter C
(cellular phone), F (fax), H (home), P (pager), or W (work) before the
    first digit of the number.

5. Enter the second telephone number you want to block, then press <-.
ADDITION to CALL BLOCK LIST CONFIRMED appears for about 1 second, then
