EC-383
(650-0843) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 37992

INSTALLING BATTERIES

Your EC-383 is powered by two AA batteries (not supplied). For the best
performance and longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as
Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-557.

    Caution:

Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries
(standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of
    different capacities.

1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws from the latch on
the battery compartment cover and lift open the cover.

(See Illus.)

2. Insert the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols marked
    inside the compartment.

3. Replace the cover and the screws.

    Note:

Replace the batteries when LOW BATTERIES appears on the display.
To avoid losing information stored in your EC-383, do not press any
button while you replace the batteries.

INITIALIZING THE EC-383

After installing the batteries, initialize your EC-383.

    Caution:

This procedure clears any stored information from your EC-383.

1. Hold down ENTER and D, then use a pointed object (such as a
straightened paper clip) to press and release the RESET hole on the
    bottom of your EC-383.

When this display appears release ENTER and D.

2. Press and release RESET again. The display returns to normal.

RESETTING THE EC-383

If the EC-383 is exposed to strong static electrical charges, the display
might dim or "freeze up." If this happens, use as pointed object
(such as a straightened paper clip) to press the RESET hole on the bottom
of the EC-383.

    Note:

All records remain intact, but you must re-enter the date and time.

If your EC-383 still does not work properly, replace the batteries and
    initialize it.

CONNECTING THE AUTO-DIALER

Your EC-383 connects to modular telephone line jacks. If your telephone
wiring does not have modular jacks, you can purchase the necessary
adapters at your local Radio Shack store. Or, you can have your local
telephone company update your wiring.

    Note:

The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJ11C.

Your EC-383 dials using standard touch tones. If you do not subscribe
to touch-tone service, you must order this service from your local
    telephone company.

Follow these steps to connect the auto-dialer to your phone line.

1. Unplug the modular cord from your telephone and plug it into the
    EC-383's LINE jack.

2. Plug one end of the supplied modular telephone cord into the
EC-383's PHONE jack. Then plug the cord's other end into the phone's
    modular jack.

of memory. In addition, each record requires some overhead units of
    memory.

If no storage space is available, MEMORY IS FULL appears. You can
delete contact files or scheduler records to free additional storage
    space.

22. Press ENTER, SCHEDULER, CONTACT FILES, CALLER I.D./REVIEW, LIST,
    or SYSTEM to exit.
