Before Using the Unit...

IMPORTANT!: Before you use the unit for the first time, be sure to perform
the reset operation as explained in "Reset Operation", below.

Be sure to write Down Important Data Somewhere!

The numbers and letters you input stay inside memory as long as the
batteries provide electric power. When the batteries go dead or when you
remove them for longer than about two minutes,* everything inside memory
is erased. There is also, the danger that you might accidentally erase
something by mistake. Because of this, you should always write down data
in a notebook as a back-up, just in case.

Always switch power off before removing batteries. Removing batteries
while power is on can cause malfunction of the unit or loss of memory
    data.

PRECAUTIONS: Never allow this unit to be exposed to fire.

Avoid use and storage under temperature extremes. Do not
place the unit in direct sunlight, near windows, near a
heater, or anywhere else where it is subject to heat. Heat
can lead to discoloration or warping of the case, and can
              even damage internal circuitry.

Under very low temperatures, display response may slow down
or fail entirely. This condition is temporary and operation
              should return under normal temperatures.

Avoid use and storage in areas subject to excessive moisture,
dirt, and dust. Direct contact with liquids and dust can
              damage internal circuitry.

Avoid dropping the unit and otherwise subjecting it to severe
              impact.

Never bend or twist the case.

Never try to take the unit apart.

Do not use a pen, pencil, or other sharp object to press
              keys.

To clean the exterior of the unit, wipe it off with a soft
cloth dampened in a weak solution of a mild neutral detergent
and water. Be sure to wring out any excess moisture from the
cloth before wiping off the unit. Never use benzene,
thinner, or any other volatile agent to clean the unit.
Doing so can remove the figures printed on the case or
              otherwise damage the case finish.

The contents of these instructions are subject to change
              without notice.

Tandy Corporation assumes no responsibility for any loss or
claims by third parties which may arise from the use of this
              product.

RESET OPERATION

Use the following operation to reset the unit and clear its memory.

IMPORTANT!: Be sure to reset the unit before using it for the first time.

Do not use a very sharp pencil to press the RESET button.
Doing so can damage the unit.

To Reset the Unit

1. Use a thin, pointed object (like a paper clip) to press the RESET
button on the back of the unit. When you do, the "RESET?" message
    should appear.

2. Press EXE to reset the unit.

The timekeeping display appears after all data is deleted.

To abort the RESET operation, press any key besides EXE. This causes
the "CHECK TIME" message to appear. Press any key to display the
time. If the time setting is wrong, use the Timekeeping Mode to reset
it (On Faxback Doc. # 32180).

3. Use the procedures on Faxback Doc. # 32180 to set the time after
    performing the RESET operation.

The following table shows what happens to all settings when you reset
    the unit.

              Memory Data All Cleared

              Data All cleared
              Current Date January 1, 1994
              Current Time 00:00
              Alarm Off
              Alarm Time 12:00
              Password Cleared
              Secret Memory Area Cleared

When the Unit does not Work Properly...

The unit may stop working properly after it is subjected to strong
electrostatic charge or strong impact. If this happens, first check to
make sure that the batteries are correctly installed, and then perform
the following operation.

1. Use a thin, pointed object (like a paper clip) to press the RESET
button on the back of the unit. When you do, the "RESET?" message
    should appear.

2. Press any key besides EXE. This causes the "CHECK TIME" message to
    appear.

3. Press any key to display the time and then use the procedures on
Faxback Doc. # 32180 to reset it.

LOW BATTERY WARNING

The message "LOW BATT!" appears and the unit automatically switches off 30
seconds after battery power drops below a certain level. Replace batteries
immediately after this message appears.

About the Power Supply

This unit is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat.
No. 23-555). Data is kept in memory as long as the batteries provide
electrical power.

IMPORTANT!: Batteries can burst or leak and damage your unit if you use
them the wrong way. Note the following important points.

Be sure that the plus (+) side of each battery is facing in
             the proper direction.

Never mix batteries of different types.

Never leave dead batteries in the battery compartment.

Remove the batteries if you do not plan to use the unit for a
             long time.

Replace the batteries at least once every two years.

WARNINGS: Never try to recharge the batteries that come with the unit.

Do not expose batteries to direct heat, do not short circuit
them, and do not try to take them apart.

Keep batteries out of the reach of small children. If
swallowed, consult with a physician immediately.

The batteries that come installed in this unit when you purchase
it are for factory test purposes, so they will probably not
           provide normal service life.

Note that data in memory is retained for about two minutes after
you remove the batteries, as long as the unit is switched off
           before you remove them.

If batteries are removed for longer than two minutes, memory
contents will be deleted, indicated by the "RESET?" message on
the display after you replace the batteries. Press EXE to reset
the unit and clear all data from memory.

To guard against loss of data, load new batteries as soon as
possible after removing the old ones.

To Replace the Batteries

1. Switch power off.

2. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding in the direction
indicated by the arrow in the illustration (Figure 1).

3. Remove the old batteries.

4. Making sure that the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of the
batteries are facing correctly, load two new batteries into the
    battery compartment (Figure 2).

Be sure to replace both old batteries with new ones.

5. Insert the tabs on the bottom of the battery compartment cover into
the slots of the battery compartment, and carefully close the cover
    (Figure 3).

AUTO POWER OFF FUNCTION

This function automatically switches power off if you do not operate any
key for about six minutes. To restore power, press ON/OFF.

If power switches off while you are inputting data or setting a time,
the date you are inputting is not stored.

If an alarm time is reached while unit power is switched off, the
    alarm will sound anyway.
