ABOUT MODES

There are a total of eight modes.  The currently selected mode is
indicated by a pointer at the top of the display.  This is true for all
modes except the Magic Beam Mode.

    Telephone Directory Mode

    Gem Fortune/Health Meter Mode

    Schedule Mode

    Timekeeping Mode

    Alarm Mode

    Calculator Mode

    Secret Memory Area of the Telephone Directory Mode

TO CHANGE MODES

Press MODE to change modes.  Each press of MODE changes the mode in the
following sequence.

    Telephone          Gem Fortune/          Schedule Mode
    Directory Mode     Health Meter Mode

    Calculator         Alarm Mode            Timekeeping
    Mode                                     Mode

    To enter the Magic Beam mode, press the SYMBOL key.

    To enter the secret memory area in the Telephone Directory Mode, press
    the SYMBOL key.

ADJUSTING DISPLAY CONTRAST

Use the following procedure to make the characters on the display lighter
and darker.

To Adjust Display Contrast

1.  Press MODE to enter the Timekeeping Mode (CLOCK SYMBOL).

2.  Press /\ to increase contrast (making the figures on the display
    darker) or \/ to decrease contrast (making the figures lighter).

3.  After you are finished adjusting the contrast, press MODE to change
    to another mode.

Switching the Key Input Tone On and Off

1.  Use MODE to enter the Alarm Mode (SYMBOL).

2.  Press MUSICAL NOTE to switch the key input tone on and off.

3.  After you are finished switching the key input tone on or off, press
    MODE to change to another mode.

INPUTTING DATA

Use the following steps to input letters, numbers, and symbols in the
various modes of this unit.

Inputting Alpha Characters

Press ALPHA/NUM to enter the alpha input mode.  Now press the keys marked
with the alpha-characters you want to input.

Example:

    4
    R Alpha Mode: R

IMPORTANT!:  You can only input upper-case (capitalized) alpha-characters
             (you cannot input lower-case characters).

             Press SPACE to input spaces.

Inputting Numbers

Press the ALPHA/NUM key to enter the number/symbol input mode.  Now press
the keys that have numbers marked above them to input the numbers.

Example: 

    4
    R Number Mode: 4

Inputting Symbols on the Keyboard

Press ALPHA/NUM to switch to number/symbol input, and press the key with
the symbol you want to input marked above it (., +, -, x, /).

Inputting Symbols with the Symbol Menu

Pressing SYM displays a menu of symbols that you can input on the display.

To Input Symbols with the Symbol Menu

1.  With the cursor at the location where you want to input a symbol, press
    SYM to display the SYMBOL menu.

2.  Use <, >, /\, or \/ to move the flashing cursor to the symbol you want
    to input.

3.  Press EXE to input the symbol where the cursor is currently located.

Correcting Mistakes While Inputting Characters

Use the following Procedures to make corrections while you are inputting
characters.

To change a Character to a Different One

Use < or > to move the cursor to the character you want to change, and then
input the new character.

To Clear All Characters

Press CLEAR to clear all of the characters you have input up to that point
(but have not saved yet by pressing EXE).  Then input new characters from
the beginning.

TIMEKEEPING MODE

The Timekeeping Mode displays the current date and time on the display.
You can also use this mode to adjust the display contrast (see "Adjusting
Display Contrast" above).

To Enter the Timekeeping Mode

1.  Press MODE to enter the Timekeeping Mode CLOCK SYMBOL.

To Change the Timekeeping Settings

Example:  March 23, 1995
          10:35

1.  In the Timekeeping Mode, press EDIT.

    Note that year digits appear on the display and the day of the week
    disappears.  The day of the week is automatically set by the unit
    based on the date setting you make.

    The year digits are flashing because they are selected.

2.  Input the date and time.

    9 5 0 3 2 3 1 0 3 5

    Input the time using 24-hour format (00:00 to 23:59).

    Each time you input a digit, the cursor moves to the next digit to the
    right.  You can also move the cursor around the display using < or >.

    You can input any date from January 1, 1994 to December 31, 2093.

    You can abort the time setting operation (without changing anything)
    by pressing MODE or EDIT at any time.

3.  Press EXE to set the time you input.

    When you press EXE, the seconds automatically start from "00."

    If you input any invalid values (like 35 for the date, or 15 for the
    month), the input is not saved and the unit automatically returns to
    step 2.

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY MODE

Use the Telephone Directory Mode to store the names and telephone numbers
of your friends.  You can store Telephone Directory data in the open memory
area (where all data is normally stored), or in the secret memory area.
When you store data in the secret memory area, you can view data only if
you correctly input the correct password. This means it helps you keep your
Telephone Directory data private.

To Enter the Telephone Directory Mode

1.  Press MODE to enter the Telephone Directory Mode (TELEPHONE SYMBOL).

To Input Telephone Directory Data

    Example:  JACKSON ERIC

              123-4567

1.  Enter the Telephone Directory Mode, and the "NAME?" message appears.

*   The unit automatically changes to the alpha input mode at this time.

2.  Input the name.

    J A C K S O N  SPACE  E R I C

    You can  input up to 20 characters for the name.  Only 10 characters
    can fit on the display at one time, so the screen automatically scrolls
    after you input the 10th character.

    You cannot leave the name blank.

3.  Press EXE to store the name, and the "NUMBER?" message appears.

    The unit automatically changes to the number input mode at this time.

4.  Input the telephone number.

    1 2 3 - 4 5 6 7

    You can input up to 20 digits for the number.  Only 10 digits can fit
    on the display at one time, so the screen automatically scrolls after
    you input the 10th digit.

    The number entry can be left blank if you want.

5.  Press EXE to store the number and return to the "NAME?" display.

    Telephone Directory data is stored in alphabetical order according to
    the names.

    You can abort the data input operation (without inputting anything) by
    pressing MODE at any time before you press EXE in step 5.

Recalling Telephone Directory Data

You can recall Telephone Directory data using a sequential search.

To recall data

1.  Enter the Telephone Directory Mode.

2.  Use /\ or \/ to scroll through the list alphabetically.

*   Holding down /\ or \/ scrolls at high speed.

3.  After you recall the data you want, you can use < or > scroll it left
    or right if it runs off the display.

Editing Telephone Directory Data

Use the operations described here to edit your Telephone Directory data.

To Edit Telephone Directory Data

1.  Enter the Telephone Directory Mode.

2.  Use sequential search to recall the data you want to edit.

3.  Press EDIT.

4.  Use < or > to move the cursor to the name characters you want to
    change.

    If you do not want to make any changes in the name, press EXE to
    advance to the telephone number and proceed with step 6.

5.  Change the characters using the operations described under "Inputting
    Data", above.

6.  After you make the changes you want, press EXE to display the phone
    number.

7.  Use < or > to move the cursor to the number digits you want to change.

    If you do not want to make any changes in the phone number, press EXE
    to store the edited data and proceed with step 9.

8.  Change the numbers using the operations described under "Inputting
    Data", above.

9.  After you make the changes you want, press EXE to store the edited
    data.

SECRET MEMORY AREA

You can register a password to create a secret memory area that keeps your
Telephone Directory data private.

To Create a Secret Memory Area

Example:  To register the password TANDY and create a secret memory area.

1.  Enter the Telephone Directory Mode (TELEPHONE SYMBOL).

2.  Press KEY SYMBOL.

3.  Input the password you want to register.

    T A N D Y

    Your password can be up to 10 characters long.  It can contain alpha
    characters, numbers, spaces, and symbols.  A password cannot be made
    up of all spaces.

4.  Press EXE to register the password.

    At this time the Telephone Directory "NAME?" prompt appears asking you
    for input of new data.  The pointer points to the KEY symbol to
    indicate that you are in the secret memory area.

IMPORTANT!:  You can have only one password at a time.  Be sure to write
             down your password somewhere so you do not forget it.  If you
             do, you will have to perform the RESET operation before you
             can register a new one.  But remember that RESET clears all
             data in memory.

To Enter the Secret Memory Area

1.  Enter the Telephone Directory Mode.

2.  Press KEY.

3.  Input the password exactly as you registered it, and press EXE.

    If the password is correct, the unit will enter the sectet memory area.

    If the password is wrong, the password you input remains on the display
    so you can change it to the correct one.

    After you enter the secret memory area, you can store and recall
    Telephone Directory data just as you normally do.  When you search for
    something in the secret memory area, only data in the secret memory
    area is recalled.

To Exit the Secret Memory Area

After finishing what you want to do in the secret memory area, press KEY.

    The pointer is no longer under the KEY indicator, which means that the
    unit is in the normal (non-secret) memory area.

    Note that you can also exit the secret memory area by changing to
    another mode or by switching the unit off.

To Change Your Password

Example:  To change your password from "TANDY" to ABC."

1.  While in the secret memory area with the "NAME?" message on the
    display, press CLEAR and then KEY SYMBOL to display the current
    password.

2.  Press CLEAR again, then change the password to the new one.

    In this example, input CLEAR  A B C.

    Use the editing procedures described under "Inputting Data", above,
    to change the password.

3.  Press EXE to store the new password.
