Be sure that the two units are within eight meters (8.7 yards) of each
other. Also note that the angle between the two units can be up to 10
degrees (in a room lit by fluorescent lighting to a level of 500 lux).

EFFECTIVE RANGE

Messages can be sent from one unit to another. You cannot broadcast a
    single message to multiple units.

Things to Check for if You are Having Problems with Magic Beam

If battery power is weak, you have to move the two units closer
    together.

If the two units are at any angle of more than 10 degrees, you have to
move them to face each other more directly.

If an object is blocking the path between the two units, communication
    is impossible.

Outdoors, near a window, or in other brightly lit areas, you may have
to move the two units closer together or you may not be able to send
    data at all.

If there is a third unit nearby, communication may be impossible.
