TURNING POWER ON AND OFF
Press ON to turn power on. To turn power off, press OFF.
AUTO POWER OFF FUNCTION
The unit automatically turns off if you do not press any key for about six
minutes.
IMPORTANT: If power is turned off while you are inputting data, editing
data, setting the current time, or setting an alarm time, your
input is not stored.
Any alarms you have set still sound, even if power is turned
off.
ABOUT THE ICON MENU SYSTEM
To perform an operation, you must first use the Main Menu to select the
icon for the correct mode.
TO DISPLAY THE MAIN MENU
The Main Menu appears whenever you turn on the unit. You can also display
it by pressing MENU.

ENTERING A MODE
To Enter a Mode
1. Display the Main Menu
2. Use /\, \/, <, or > to move the highlighting around the display.
3. Press EXE to enter the highlighted mode.
Use TIME to enter the Timekeeping Mode.
Use PET to enter the Pet Mode.
ABOUT FUNCTION MENUS
Pressing FUNCTION displays a menu of available functions.
Use /\ or \/ to highlight the function you want, then press EXE.
When selecting a function takes you through a number of different
displays, you can backstep to the previous display by pressing
FUNCTION.
To exit from a function menu operation, press AC/ON.
SETTING THE SYSTEM LANGUAGE
This manual uses the English setting for all of its display messages
To Set the System Language
1. Display the Main-Menu.
2. Press FUNCTION.
3. Highlight "Language" then press EXE.
4. Highlight a language, then press EXE.
The "Language" menu item appears in the language that is currently set
as the system language.

ADJUSTING DISPLAY CONTRAST
The display's contrast setting determines image darkness.
To Adjust Display Contrast
1. Display the Main Menu.
2. Press /\ to make images darker or \/ to make them lighter.
KEY INPUT TONE
When the key input tone is on, a beep sounds each time you press a key.
To Turn the Key Input Tone On and Off
1. Display the Main Menu.
2. Highlight SYMBOL then press EXE.
3. Press FUNCTION.
4. Highlight "Sound," then press EXE.
5. Highlight "Key Tone."
6. Use < or > to turn the key tone on or off, then press EXE.
INPUTTING TEXT
The following explains the basics of inputting text with this unit.
To Input Letters and Numbers
1. Press ALPHA/NUM to switch between letter input (indicated by SYMBOL on
the display) or number input (indicated by SYMBOL).
2. Press the key marked with the character you want.
Example: R Letter input: R
Number input: 4
TO INPUT UPPERCASE LETTERS
The normal setting for this unit is upper-case (capital) letters. To
input upper case letters, simply press the keys.
TO INPUT A SINGLE LOWER-CASE LETTER
1. Press SHIFT.
* The indicator "S" appears when the keyboard is shifted.
2. Input the letter you want.
After you input a letter, the keyboard automatically shifts back to
uppercase.
TO INPUT MULTIPLE LOWER-CASE LETTERS
1. Press Function.
2. Highlight "CAPS", then press EXE.
This causes the "CAPS" indicator to disappear.
To input a single upper-case letter while the keyboard is not shift
locked, press SHIFT.
3. To shift-lock the keyboard again, press FUNCTION, highlight "CAPS"
then press EXE.
TO INPUT SYMBOLS FROM THE KEYBOARD
1. Press ALPHA/NUM to switch to number input (indicated by "N").
2. Press the key marked with the symbol you want.
Use this procedure for periods and mathematical symbols marked above
keyboard keys.
To input a space, simply press SPACE.
TO INPUT SYMBOLS AND CHARACTERS WITH THE FUNCTION MENU
1. Press FUNCTION.
2. Highlight "Symbols," then press EXE.
This causes a menu to appear, with the selected letter/symbol
highlighted.
3. Use /\ or \/ to scroll line-by-line: < or > to move left or right; and
/\ or \/ to scroll screen-by-screen.
4. When the letter/symbol you want is highlighted, press EXE.
TO INPUT CHARACTERS USING THE CODE KEY
1. Press CODE.
2. Press a number key from 1 to 8.
If you pressed 6, 7, or 8, you are done. If you pressed 1, 2, 3, 4,
or 5, you have to perform the following step to input a vowel.
3. If you are inputting an accented vowel (a, e, i, o, u), press the key
for the vowel.
The following table shows the characters you can input using CODE.

All CODE characters, except for B are automatically input in upper
case. To input them in lowercase, simply press SHIFT before pressing
6 or 7 in step 2, or before inputting the vowel being accented in step
3.
If you use the CODE key with a character that is not shown in the
table above, the character will be input without an accent.
TO CHANGE A CHARACTER
1. Use /\, \/, <, or > to move the cursor to the character you want to
change.
2. Input the new character.
ABOUT "ITEMS" AND "ENTRIES"
Data you input in the Telephone Directory, Schedule, and Data Memo Modes
is made up of "items" and "entries."

To Clear All the Text in a Displayed Item
Press AC/ON.
To Clear All of the Text in an Entry
Press C/CLEAR to clear characters you have input but did not yet store by
pressing EXE.
TO DELETE A SINGLE CHARACTER
1. Use /\, \/, <, or > to move the cursor to the character you want to
delete.
2. Press SHIFT.
3. Press < (DEL).
TO INSERT A CHARACTER
1. Use /\, \/, < or > to move the cursor to the place where you want to
insert a character.
2. Press SHIFT.
3. Press > (INS) to open up a space.
4. Input the character.
