EC-367 Personal Telephone Directory
(650-0881) Operation Faxback Doc. # 31523

MEMORY CAPACITY

This EC-367's memory can hold up to 800 characters of data. Each alpha
character you input in the text area is counted as one character, while
each number you input in the number area is counted as a half-character (so
two numbers are counted as one character). In addition to the characters
you input, an extra two characters (for internal control purposes) are
taken up by each Telephone Directory entry.

TO CHECK THE CURRENT MEMORY STATUS

In any mode, press CAPA (capacity) to display the amount of memory used and
the number of items currently stored.

Press AC, SPELL, TELEPHONE, or SECRET to clear the memory status
    display.

CALCULATOR

Press AC to enter the Calculator Mode.

Double entry of an operator (+, -. x, /) makes the numeric value that
    follows it constant.

The following indicators might also appear on the display.

M: Indicates that a value is stored in the calculator's memory.

K: Indicates that a constant calculation is being performed.

E: Indicates that an error has occurred.

You can clear an error and continue with the current calculation by
pressing (CLR). You can clear the error and the current calculation
    by pressing AC.

CORRECTIONS

You can clear the last numeric entry by pressing C (CLR) immediately after
making the initial entry.

You can correct the last arithmetic operator entry (+, -, x, /) by pressing
the correct arithmetic operator key immediately after making the initial
entry.

Press AC to clear an entire calculation.

Press MC (memory clear) to clear the calculator's memory contents.

ABOUT CALCULATION CAPACITY

Any display of the following conditions will cause E to appear on the
display, indicating that the capacity of the calculator has been exceeded.
Note that the memory contents are protected, and the cumulative total can
be recalled by pressing MR (memory recall) after the error is cleared.

Whenever the integer portion of a result (whether intermediate or final) is
longer than 8 digits. In this case, the display shows the 8 most
significant digits of the result. The true decimal point of the result is
8 places to the right of the decimal position shown on that display.

Whenever the integer portion of a total memory is longer than 8 digits.

INPUTTING AND EDITING CHARACTERS

TO INPUT ALPHA-CHARACTERS AND NUMBERS

Some keys let you input alpha-characters or numbers/symbols. Use the
ALPHA/NUMBER key to switch between alpha-character and number input when
using the spell checker or telephone directory. You can enter an alpha
character while the [A] symbol is on the display.

A small 3 above a letter on the keypad indicates number, hyphen, or
punctuation mark (. , ?) you can input when [A] is not on the display.

[E] indicates alpha-characters you can input when [A] is on the display.

Press SYMBOL to input other punctuation marks or symbols. Each time you
press this key while inputting text in the text area, the symbol at the
cursor position changes in the following sequence:

- -> , -> . -> : -> ? -> ! -> / -> ~ -> ' -> " -> ( -> ) -> % ->
- ->  ....

When the symbol you want is shown at the cursor position, press > to move
the cursor to the next position. Pressing SYMBOL while you are inputting
in the number area inputs a hyphen.

NOTE: You cannot use SYMBOL to input symbols in the Spell Check Mode.

Press SPC to input spaces.

TO EDIT CHARACTERS

You can use either of the following methods to edit characters.

Use < or > to move the cursor to the character you want to change,
    then input the new character.

Press CLR to clear all of the characters, then input the new
    characters.

SPELL CHECK

The Spell Check Mode checks spelling for you using a dictionary of
approximately 80,000 words, and also lets you use wild card characters to
look up words.

TO CHECK THE SPELLING OF A WORD

EXAMPLE: To check the spelling of the input "doge".

1. Press SPELL to enter the Spell Check Mode.

2. Input the word you want to check, up to 22 characters.

3. Press SET to start the spell check operation.

If the spelling of the word you input is wrong, SEARCHING... appears
on the display while the EC-367 checks its dictionary.

After a few seconds, a suggested spelling appears. Our example
spelling "doge" produces the suggestion "dogger".

If the > indicator is on the display, press > to scroll to the right.

4. Use /\ or \/ to scroll through the words.

NOTES: If the word you input in Step 2 is a valid one, CORRECT! appears
        when you press SET.

To clear the display and return to the INPUT WORD! prompt at any
        time, press CLR.

Press SPC/REVIEW to return to the word you entered in Step 2.

USING THE WILD CARD CHARACTER

The wild card character provides you with a great deal of versatility when
searching for words. Inputting "?" tells the EC-367 that any character can
appear at this location. You can use this feature for activities such as
solving a crossword puzzle.

HOW TO USE WILD CARD CHARACTERS

Let's say you want to look up the word "flagrant," but you are unsure about
the spelling. In this case, you could input the following.

    FLAG???T

Now press SET to start the spell check operation as you normally would.

NOTE: The EC-367 cannot search for a word that starts with a wild card
       character.

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY

You can store up to 50 entries of 8-character names and 12-digit numbers in
the Telephone Directory. You can even store bank account numbers, ATM
passwords, and other data in a secret memory area. You can enter the
Telephone Directory data when either the following text or the owner's data
(see "To register the owner's data", below) appears on the display:

    DATA BANK

Data automatically scrolls to the left as you input it. If you input
more than 12 characters for the telephone number, the data scrolls off
    the display.

4. Press SET to store the number.

After about one second, NAME ? reappears, asking for input of the next
    entry.

If MEMORY FULL! appears on the display when you press SET, it means
that EC-367's memory is full. You will have to delete some data before
    you can input more.

The telephone directory is automatically sorted alphabetically by the
    names. This is the sort sequence: spaces, symbols (, . : ? ! / ~ ' "
    ( ) % -), numbers, alpha-characters (A to Z).
