EC-373 32K Data Directory Electronic Organizer
(650-0873) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 19168

INSTALLING BATTERIES

Your EC-373 is powered by four AA batteries (not supplied). For the best
performance and longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as
Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552.

CAUTIONS: Always use fresh batteries of the required size and type.

To prevent losing the information stored in your EC-373, do
not press any button while you replace the batteries.

1. Press and pull the tab on the battery compartment cover to remove the
    cover.

2. Insert the batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and-)
    marked inside the compartment.

3. Replace the cover.

NOTES: When the display dims, replace the batteries.

Your EC-373 also has a backup battery (installed). When the main batteries
are dead or removed, you cannot operate the data bank, but the backup
battery protects all stored information. The backup battery is a CR1616
lithium battery (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-167), which should last about 3
years. When it is time to replace the backup battery, take your EC-373 to
your local Radio Shack store.

INITIALIZING THE DIRECTORY

Initialize your EC-373 before you use it for the first time after
installing or replacing batteries, or when you want to delete all stored
records, reminders, alarms, and the password.

CAUTION: This procedure deletes all stored information!

1. Press and hold ENTER.

2. While pressing ENTER, insert a pointed object (such as a straightened
paper clip) into the RESET hole on the bottom of your EC-373, then
press and release. The display shows:

3. Release ENTER. The display goes black.

4. Wait a few seconds for the directory to initialize, then press RESET
again. The display returns to normal, and all previously entered
    information is deleted.

MOUNTING YOUR EC-373

You can place your EC-373 on a desk, shelf, or table. Or, you can mount
it directly on the wall - for instance, just beside a wall-mounted
telephone.

To mount the EC-373 on the wall, you need two screws (not supplied) with
heads that fit into the keyhole slots on the bottom of the supplied
mounting bracket.

1. Using a ruler, mark the positions for both screw holes 2 9/16 inches
    apart vertically.

2. In both marked locations, drill a hole slightly smaller than the
    screws.

CAUTION: Be careful not to drill into any objects behind the wall.

3. Insert the screws into the holes, letting each screw head extend about
5/64 inch (2 mm) from the wall.

4. Attach the mounting bracket to the bottom of the EC-373.

5. Align the bracket's keyhole slots with the screw heads and slide the
    EC-373 downward to secure it.
