USING THE TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE RECORDS

Each To Do List & Schedule record can be up to 60 lines long.  The number 
of records you store depends on how much memory is available.  Records are 
stored and sorted alphanumerically according to the first few characters 
in the record (not by date/time). 

ENTERING TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE RECORDS 

1.  Press ENTER.  The display shows:

3.  Follow the instructions on the display to enter a date and time (if 
    desired), and the note you want to store.  Press RETURN to start a new 
    line. 

    NOTES:  You must use double-digit numbers for dates and times.  For 
            example, to enter the date and time for June 14, 1996, at 1:15 
            in the afternoon, you would type 06141996 for the date and 
            0115 for the time followed by a P (for PM). 

            If you enter an invalid date or time, the date/time entry 
            screen appears. 

            If you want to date an event without entering a time for it, 
            press RETURN after you enter the date. 

            If you simply want to enter a note without a date and time, 
            press RETURN repeatedly until the cursor flashes after MEMO. 

            If you want to date an event that happens every year, enter 
            0000 for the year. 

            If you want an alarm to sound, for instance as a daily wake up
            or a daily reminder, press DAILY ALARMS after entering the date
            and time and before you enter the memo information.  The time
            of the alarm is automatically stored in the Daily Alarm Index
            (see "Recalling Daily Alarms").  When the set daily alarm time
            is reached, the EC-373 sounds an alarm and the To Do List &
            Schedule record appears on the display.  You can press any key
            to stop the alarm. 

4.  Press ENTER to store the record. 

NOTE:  If you do not enter information into the MEMO: line, INVALID FILE 
       appears and the record is not stored. 

To store more To Do List & Schedule records, repeat Steps 3 and 4. 

NOTE:  You can also press MONTHLY CALENDAR, press and hold LEFT ARROW, 
       RIGHT ARROW, UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to quickly locate a specific 
       day, then press ENTER.  The date appears on the top line.  Press 
       RETURN to enter a note for that day.  See "Using the Calendar." 

RECALLING TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE RECORDS 

1.  Press TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE.  Schedule records appear on the display, 
    beginning with the next scheduled event. 

    NOTE:  If there are no To Do List & Schedule records, a blank screen 
           appears on the display. 

2.  Press UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to scroll through each record line by 
    line. 

NOTES:  If the displayed record is not the one you want, press DOWN ARROW 
        to move to the next record or UP ARROW to move to the previous 
        record. 

        If the record is longer than two lines, press RETURN.  Then DOWN 
        ARROW to move down or UP ARROW to move up through the record one 
        line at a time. 

        Press NEXT to move down through the record one screen at a time or 
        LAST to move up one screen at a time. 

3.  Press TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE to return to the summary display. 

EDITING TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE RECORDS 

1.  Recall the To Do List & Schedule record you want to change. 

2.  Press RETURN. 

3.  Press EDIT/BKS.  The cursor appears on the first digit of the date. 
    Press LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW to move to the number you want to 
    change, then type the new number.  The cursor automatically moves to 
    the right. 

4.  Press RETURN to move the cursor to the time line.  Press LEFT ARROW or 
    RIGHT ARROW to move to the character you want to change, then type the 
    new character. 

5.  Press RETURN.  The cursor appears at the end of the first line of the 
    memo.  Press LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW to move the cursor immediately 
    to the right of the character(s) you want to change. 

    To delete a character, press EDIT/BKS.  The character to the left of 
    the cursor is deleted.  Press EDIT/BKS repeatedly to backspace and 
    delete more characters, if necessary. 

    To insert additional characters, use the arrow keys to move the cursor 
    to the insertion point, then enter new characters. 

    NOTES:  To add more lines to the middle of a memo, move the cursor to 
            the end of a line then press RETURN to insert a new line. 
            Then enter the additional information. 

            To enter additional lines at the end of a record, press DOWN 
            ARROW repeatedly to move to the end of the record.  Then press 
            RETURN and enter the new information. 

6.  Press ENTER to save your changes to the record. 

DELETING TO DO LIST & SCHEDULE RECORDS 

1.  Recall the record you want to delete by pressing UP ARROW or DOWN 
    ARROW repeatedly until the desired record appears on the display's top 
    line. 

2.  Press DELETE.  DELETE FILE?  Y/N appears on the display. 

3.  Press Y to delete the record or N to cancel. 

USING THE CONFIDENTIAL FILE 

You can store records in your EC-373 that can only be accessed with your 
own personal password. 

NOTE:  Choose a password you can easily remember.  If you forget your 
       password, you must delete it to store a new one.  This removes all 
       the information you saved in confidential records. 

STORING THE PASSWORD 

Follow these steps to store your password for the first time and after you 
initialize the EC-373. 

NOTE:  The password can be letters or numbers, or a combination of both. 
       You can also leave the password blank.  (00000 is not a valid 
       password.) 

1.  Press CONFIDENTIAL FILE. 

2.  Type in any password (1-5 characters long).  Press RETURN to store the 
    password.  The display shows the four different categories of 
    confidential files.  To enter records, see Steps 3-4 of "Entering 
    Confidential Records." 

ENTERING CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS 

Each record can hold up to 62 lines of information. 

Follow these steps to enter confidential records. 

1.  Press ENTER. 

2.  Press CONFIDENTIAL FILE.  The Confidential Files menu appears. 

3.  Press 1 to select Bank Account Information, 2 to select Credit Card 
    Numbers, 3 to select Driver's License and Tax Bill Numbers, or 4 to 
    choose Miscellaneous. 

4.  Enter your record, then press ENTER. 

To store more records, repeat Steps 3 and 4. 

RECALLING CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS 

1.  Press CONFIDENTIAL FILE. 

2.  Type in your password, then press RETURN.  The Confidential Files menu 
    appears. 

3.  Press 1, 2, 3, or 4 to select the category of the record you want to 
    recall.  The first five lines of the file appear on the display. 

4.  If you want to scroll through the records in alphanumeric order, press 
    LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW. 

    If you want to recall a specific record, press the first letter of the 
    record you want.  The EC-373 displays the first confidential record 
    that starts with the character you entered. 

    If more records begin with the same character, PLEASE TYPE NEXT LETTER 
    appears.  Type in the next letter of the desired record. 

NOTE:  If no record starts with the letter you entered, a ? and NO FILE 
       MATCH PLEASE TRY AGAIN appear on the display. 

5.  If the record is longer than five lines, press DOWN ARROW to move down 
    or UP ARROW to move up through the record one line at a time.  Press 
    NEXT to move down through the record one screen at a time or LAST to 
    move up one screen at a time. 

CHANGING THE PASSWORD 

1.  Press CONFIDENTIAL FILE. 

2.  Type in your password, then press RETURN.  The Confidential Files menu 
    appears. 

3.  Press and hold DELETE for about 2 seconds.  The display shows YOUR 
    PASSWORD HAS BEEN DELETED followed by ENTER A PASSWORD THEN PRESS 
    "RETURN". 

    NOTE:  This step only deletes the password and does not delete any 
           other stored information. 

4.  Type in the new password, then press RETURN.  The display returns to 
    the Confidential Files menu. 

DELETING THE PASSWORD IF YOU DO NOT REMEMBER IT 

If you forget the password, you must delete it before you can store a new 
password. 

CAUTION:  This procedure deletes all confidential records! 

1.  Press CONFIDENTIAL FILE. 

2.  Type in 00000, then press RETURN.  A warning display appears. 

3.  If you are sure that you want to delete the password, press Y.  All 
    previously-entered confidential records are deleted.  Type in your new 
    password (1-5 characters long), then press RETURN.  The Confidential 
    Files menu appears. 

    If you are not sure, press N.  The display returns to the password 
    prompt.  Type in your existing password, then press RETURN.  The 
    Confidential Files menu appears. 

EDITING CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS 

1.  Recall the confidential file record you want to change. 

2.  Press EDIT/BKS.  The cursor appears in the display's top line to the 
    right of the last character.  Use the arrow keys to move the cursor 
    immediately to the right of the character you want to change. 

3.  Press EDIT/BKS.  The character to the left of the cursor is deleted. 
    Press EDIT/BKS repeatedly to backspace and delete more characters, if 
    necessary. 

4.  Enter new characters. 

    NOTES:  To add more lines to the middle of a record, move the cursor 
            to the end of a line and press RETURN to insert a new line. 
            Then enter the additional information. 

            To enter additional lines at the end of a record, press DOWN 
            ARROW repeatedly to move to the end of the record.  Then press 
            RETURN and enter the new information. 

5.  Press ENTER to save your changes to the record. 

DELETING CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS 

1.  Recall the confidential file record you want to delete by pressing UP 
    ARROW or DOWN ARROW repeatedly until the desired record appears on the 
    display's top line. 

2.  Press DELETE.  DELETE FILE? Y/N appears on the display. 

3.  Press Y to delete the record or N to cancel. 

USING THE CALENDAR 

Your EC-373's calendar can display any month from January 0000 to December 
9999. 

1.  Press MONTHLY CALENDAR to enter the calendar.  The calendar for the 
    current month appears with the current date flashing. 

2.  To scroll through the calendar one month at a time, press + or -. 

NOTE:  A dot to the right of the date means there is an event stored in 
       the To Do List & Schedule record for that date. 

       You can enter a To Do List & Schedule record from the calendar 
       display.  Press and hold LEFT ARROW, RIGHT ARROW, UP ARROW OR DOWN 
       ARROW to quickly move to a specific day, then press ENTER.  The 
       date appears on the top line.  Then press RETURN and enter a To Do 
       List & Schedule record.  See "Entering To Do List & Schedule 
       Records." 

USING THE CALCULATOR 

To use your EC-373 to perform standard arithmetic, memory, and percent 
calculations, press CALC CE. 

CALCULATOR TIPS 

    Press CALC CE to cancel the last entry or clear the display for the 
    next calculation. 

    If the result of a calculation is more than 10 digits long, ERROR 
    appears.  If this happens, press CALC CE to clear the display. 

    Press UP ARROW to scroll backward through the calculations one line at 
    a time (up to 120 lines) or DOWN ARROW to scroll forward. 

    Press LAST to scroll backward through the calculations one screen at a 
    time, or press NEXT to scroll forward one screen at a time. 

STANDARD CALCULATIONS

For standard calculations, press the keys in the order they would appear 
on paper.  For example: 

    You press:          The display's last line shows: 

      3 + 4=                       =  7. 
      8 x 3 - 4=                   = 20. 

MEMORY CALCULATIONS

The memory calculation feature lets you easily do multistep calculations. 

Use the memory keys as follows: 

    Press MC to clear the memory. 

    Press MR to recall (display) the value in memory. 

    Press M- to total a calculation and subtract the total from memory. 

    Press M+ to total a calculation and add the total to memory. 

    For example:     The display's last line shows: 

    4 x 5 = M+                 M+ 20. 
    28 + 2 = M+                M+ 30. 
    7 - 2 = M-                 M- 5. 
    75 + 5 = M+                M+ 15. 
    MR                         MR 60. 

PERCENT CALCULATIONS

Calculate percentages as follows:

What percentage of 880 is 660?                 660 + 880 %    75. 
What is a 3% markup added to 120?              120 + 3 %     123.6

TRANSFERRING CARD FILE RECORDS 

You can transfer card file records between two EC-373's or between an 
EC-373 and a 32K Rolodex compatible directory organizer, such as an EC-348 
(Radio Shack Cat. No. 65-840), EC-349 (Cat. No. 65-939), EC-350 (Cat. No. 
65-940, or EC-359 (Cat. No. 65-841). 

NOTES:  You can transfer file records from your EC-373 to an EC-359, but 
        you cannot transfer file records from the EC-359 to your EC-373. 
        You can transfer file records from an EC-348, EC-349, or EC-350 to 
        your EC-373, but cannot transfer file records from your EC-373 to 
        an EC-358, EC-359, or EC-350. 

        Your EC-373's display might dim during the transfer.  The display 
        returns to normal after you complete the transfer. 

        If all the characters of a record in the sending unit match those 
        of one in the receiving unit, the record is stored as a copy. 

        The following instructions refer to keys and displays on the 
        EC-373.  The keys and displays for the EC-348/349/350 differ 
        slightly.  See the EC-348/349/350's owner's manuals for a 
        description. 

TRANSFERRING ALL OR NEW RECORDS 

You can transfer all card records, or just those you have added since the 
last transfer. 

1.  Place the sending unit on the right and the receiving unit on the 
    left, as shown. 

2.  On the receiving unit, press CARD FILE.  Then press RECEIVE. 

3.  On the sending unit, press CARD FILE.  Then press SEND.  The display 
    shows: 

4.  Press 1 to transfer to another EC-373.  Press 2 to transfer to a 
    Rolodex compatible directory organizer.  The display shows: 

5.  Press A to send all records or N to send only the records you have 
    added since the last transfer. 

    The records begin to transfer.  FILES ARE BEING RECEIVED NOW  PLEASE 
    WAIT A MOMENT appears on the receiving unit's display.  FILES ARE 
    BEING TRANSFERRED NOW  PLEASE WAIT A MOMENT appears on the sending 
    unit's display. 

6.  When the transfer is complete TRANSFER SUCCESSFUL? Y/N appears on the 
    sending unit's display. 

    If FILES ARE BEING SORTED PLEASE WAIT A MOMENT appears on the 
    receiving unit's display followed by the last card record sent, press 
    Y on the sending unit.  The sending unit's display then also shows the 
    last record sent. 

    If FILES DID NOT TRANSFER SUCCESSFULLY  PLEASE TRY AGAIN appears on 
    the receiving unit's display, press N on the sending unit.  Be sure 
    the transmit and receive windows on the units are aligned, then try 
    again.  When the sending unit display prompts to transfer all the 
    files or new files only, type N.  This prevents duplicate files from 
    being transferred and stored. 

TRANSFERRING ONE CARD RECORD 

1.  Place the sending unit on the right and the receiving unit on the 
    left, as shown in the previous section. 

2.  On the receiving unit, press CARD FILE.  Then press RECEIVE. 

3.  On the sending unit, recall the card record you want to transfer. 
    Then press SEND.  The display shows: 

4.  Press 1 to transfer to another EC-373.  Press 2 to transfer to a 
    Rolodex compatible directory organizer. 

5.  When the transfer is complete, TRANSFER SUCCESSFUL? Y/N appears on 
    the sending unit's display. 

        If the transferred card record appears on the receiving unit's 
        display, press Y on the sending unit.  The sending unit's display 
        then also shows the transferred record. 

        If FILES DID NOT TRANSFER SUCCESSFULLY  PLEASE TRY AGAIN appears 
        on the receiving unit's display, press N on the sending unit.  Be 
        sure the transmit and receive windows on the units are aligned, 
        then try again.
