EC-358 Personal Data Directory/Clock/Scheduler
(650-0867) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 18501

REMOVING THE PACKING SLIPS

Remove both packing slips by pulling them away from the EC-358.

INITIALIZING THE EC-358

Initialize the EC-358 before you begin entering information. This restores
the security code to 000 and clears all stored information. Use either of
the following methods to initialize the EC-358.

Method 1

1. Press and hold ERASE/C/CE.

2. While you hold down ERASE/C/CE, use a straightened paper clip to press
RESET on the back of the EC-358.

3. While you continue to hold down ERASE, release RESET. A test pattern
    appears.

4. Release ERASE. After about 40 seconds, the EC-358 turns off.

Method 2

1. Remove both batteries. See "Replacing Batteries" (below) for details.

2. Use a straightened paper clip to press RESET.

3. Replace both batteries.

REPLACING BATTERIES

The EC-358 uses two CR2016, 3 volt, lithium batteries, such as Radio Shack
Cat. No. 23-160. The Main battery powers the EC-358. The back-up battery
protects the information stored in memory while you replace the main
battery.

Replace the main battery when the display becomes dim. To ensure adequate
back-up power, we recommend you replace the back-up at least once every 2
years.

CAUTION: Do not remove both batteries at the same time or all the
information stored in memory will be lost.

Replace a battery as follows:

1. Wait until the EC-358 is turned off, or press TIME so the date and
    time display appears.

2. To replace the main battery, remove the main battery compartment cover
by sliding it in the direction of the arrow.

To replace the back-up battery, remove the BACK UP battery compartment
by loosening the screw and lifting off the cover.

3. Use a pointed object, such as the end of a straightened paper clip, to
remove the old battery as shown.

4. Install the fresh battery with its positive (+) side up.

5. Replace the battery compartment cover.

If you are replacing the back-up battery's compartment cover, replace
    and tighten the screw.

RESETTING THE EC-358

If the EC-358 is not working properly, use a pointed object, such as the
end of a straightened paper clip, to press the RESET button on the back of
the EC-358.

If the EC-358 still does not work properly, replace the battery and press
RESET again.

The directory/memo records, the schedule alarms, and your security code
remain in memory after you reset the EC-358. However, you must re-enter the
current date and time and the daily alarm time. Resetting the EC-358 also
turns off the key tone and hourly chime and the daily alarm, so turn these
on if desired. In addition, you might need to re-enter any information you
were entering just before you reset the EC-358.

NOTE: If the EC-358 still does not work properly after you reset it, see
"Initializing the EC-358."
