Upload CARDFILE
Selecting this function makes it possible to save information from the
Electronic ROLODEX File on your computer. Uploading files allows you to
make a "back-up" copy of your Electronic ROLODEX File's records.
Move the highlighted bar to the Upload Cardfile selection and press
<ENTER>. The program displays:
WARNING!
Cardfile BUSINESS will be replaced.
OK to proceed?
OK
Press N if the cardfile is not to be overwritten, and you will be returned
to the MAIN MENU. Use Select Cardfile to select or create a different
cardfile.
Press Y if everything is correct.
The program will then ask for the Electronic ROLODEX File Type: Select the
type of Electronic ROLODEX File you want to upload from using the < and >
keys to highlight the desired choice, and press <ENTER>.

Rolodex 64k Rolodex 128k Rolodex 48k
Depending on which ROLODEX Electronic File is selected, one of the
following sets of instructions will be shown on the PC screen. Following
these instructions carefully will ensure that the uploads will be completed
successfully:
If Rolodex 128K was selected, the following instructions will be displayed:
Please follow these instruction:
1. Make sure the INFRARED adapter is connected to LPTn
2. Place the INFRARED receiver to the LEFT of the Rolodex File 128K
3. On the ROLODEX File: First push the "BUSINESS CARD FILE" key
Then push the "SEND" key
4. On the PC KEYBOARD: Push the "ENTER" key
5. On the ROLODEX File: Type the letter "A" to start the transfer
It takes 4 sec per 1000 bytes of memory used (9 min for full ROLODEX File)
If ROLODEX 64K was selected, the following instructions will be displayed:
Please follow these instructions:
1. Make sure the INFRARED adapter is connected to LPTn
2. Place the INFRARED receiver to the LEFT of the Rolodex File 64K
3. On the ROLODEX File: Push the "BUSINESS CARD FILE" key
While holding down the "SPACE" key, push "L"
4. Verify that the ROLODEX File is asking you to enter "ALL"
If not, repeat step 3
5. On the PC KEYBOARD: Push the "ENTER" key
6. On the ROLODEX File: Type the letters "A L L " to start the transfer
It takes 4 sec per 1000 bytes of memory used (4 min for full ROLODEX file)
If Rolodex 48K was selected, the following instructions will be displayed:
Please follow these instructions:
1. Make sure the INFRARED adapter is connected to LPTn
2. Place the INFRARED receiver to the LEFT of the Rolodex File 48K
3. On the ROLODEX file: Push the "TIME/DATE" key
While holding down the "SPACE" key, push "S"
4. Verify that the ROLODEX File is asking you to enter "A = All"
If not, repeat step 3
5. On the PC KEYBOARD: Push the "ENTER" key
6. On the ROLODEX File: Type the letter "A" to start the transfer
It takes 4 sec per 1000 bytes of memory used (4 min for full ROLODEX File)
Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the upload. At this time,
the PC will indicate that data is being received, and the Rolodex File
screen will indicate that data is being transferred. The process can take
a while, especially if there is a lot of data to be transferred. You will
have to wait patiently, without touching the computer or the Electronic
ROLODEX File during this time.
When the upload is complete, the PC displays:
Transmission successful.
You will then be returned to the Main Menu.
If the beams are not aligned correctly or the Electronic ROLODEX File was
not placed in the transmit mode promptly, the following message may be
displayed:
Not communicating with ELECTRONIC ROLODEX FILE
Transmission failed.
To attempt another Upload, repeat the sequence of instructions
Not Enough Memory To Upload
If, you are shown a message that there is not enough memory to do the
upload, you must exit the PC Link program, and type the following command
at the DOS prompt:
TRANSFER
Select the Electronic ROLODEX File type that you want to upload from, and
follow the on-screen instructions. After uploading is complete, re-enter
the PCLink program, select IMPORT CARDFILE from the MAIN menu, select the
card file you want to use, and specify UPLOAD as the ASCII file name.
View/Edit CARDFILE
The View/Edit CARDFILE selection allows you to view records, add new
records, delete records, edit existing records, and mark records for
various purposes. To enter the View/Edit mode, move the highlighted bar
to the View/Edit CARDFILE selection using the ^ or V cursor keys and press
<ENTER>.
Press Q or <ESC> to exit View/Edit and return to MAIN MENU.
Locating and Viewing Records
Pressing the N and P keys makes it possible to "flip through" the cardfile.
Pressing the N key shows the next record and pressing P key shows the
previous record. If a particular record has more information than fits on
one screen, press D to scroll down the record and press U to scroll back.
To find a particular record press the F key. The program will then display
the following message:
Enter string to search_____________
Type the name of the person or company, or the first letters of the name
and press <ENTER>. The computer will then display that file or a file
closely to the desired file, in which case the N or P keys can be used to
scroll to the desired file.
ADDING AND EDITING RECORDS
Press A to ADD a new record to the existing cardfile, and then enter the
information as desired. When all the information is entered press <PAGE
DOWN> and then press S to save the record in the cardfile or press A to
abort (not save). To add more than 15 lines of data, press <PAGE DOWN>
followed by D. Each time, the display scrolls down 8 lines. To scroll
up, press <PAGE DOWN>, followed by U.
To EDIT an existing record, locate the record on the screen and press E.
The flashing cursor will appear in top left corner of the record. Move the
cursor around with ^, V, < or > cursor keys, and add or delete information.
To add more than 15 lines of data, press <PAGE DOWN> followed by the D.
Each time, the display scrolls down 8 lines. To scroll up, press <PAGE
DOWN>, followed by the U. When finished press <PAGE DOWN> and then press S
to save the record or press A to abort (not save).
DELETING RECORDS
To delete a record from the existing cardfile, locate the record and press
X. The program will then display the message:
OK to DELETE (Y/N)?
Press Y to confirm.
Press N to leave the record unchanged.
The program will not allow you to delete the last remaining record. To
delete an entire cardfile, use DELETE CARDFILE, in CARDFILE UTILITIES menu.
MARKING AND UNMARKING RECORDS
By marking records in a cardfile it is possible to select the records that
you want to merge, download, or print. It is also possible to copy these
records to a new cardfile.
To mark records, locate a record that you want to mark and press M. An
*M* will appear in the top right corner of the record, indicating that the
record is "MARKED."
To unmarked records, locate a record that has been marked and press C. The
*M* in the top right corner of the record will disappear. Records that do
not have an *M* in the top right corner are considered unmarked. To unmark
all records in a card file, use UNMARK CARDFILE in File Utilities.
PRINTING LABELS
To print a label from the View/Edit Menu, locate the record on the screen
and press L. The program will display the following message:
Select printer port <LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, COM1, COM2> LPT1
Type in the printer port, and press <ENTER>. The program will display
the message.
PRINTING LABEL ON LPT1 -Please specify text lines to
print on each label (defaults are listed - 0 means blank line.)

There are two lines to be concerned with here, the label line and the
record line. Type in the number of the record line that you would like to
appear on a particular label line. For example, if you wanted a person's
address to appear on line 2 of the label, you would put a 5 next to Line 2.
To print all cards in the card file, use the PRINT CARDFILE utility
accessed from the MAIN menu.
FILE UTILITIES
In the UTILITIES MENU, card files can be unmarked, deleted, renamed, copied
or merged. To select one of the functions, type the highlighted letter, or
use the ^ and V cursor keys to highlight the desired function and then
press <ENTER>
UNMARKING CARD FILES
To unmark an entire cardfile move the highlighted bar onto the UNMARK
CARDFILE selection and press ENTER The program will ask:
Unmark Cardfile BUSINESS
OK to proceed>?
OK
Press <ENTER> to Unmark the cardfile, or press <ESC> to abort.
DELETING CARD FILES
To Delete an entire cardfile, select the cardfile to be deleted via the
SELECT CARDFILE, move the highlighted bar into the DELETE CARDFILE
selection and press <ENTER>. The program will display the message:
Cardfile BUSINESS to be DELETED
Are you sure?
Yes No
Press Y to continue with the deletion of this cardfile, or press N to
go back to the UTILITIES MENU. You may also use the < and > cursor keys
to highlight the desired choice, and then press <ENTER>.
COPYING CARD FILES
To make a Copy of a particular CARDFILE move the highlighted bar to the
Copy one CARDFILE to another selection and press <ENTER>.
The program will ask to copy Marked records. Unmarked records, or the
entire File. If you have marked records for this purpose, press M or U.
If you wish to copy the entire File, press F. You may also use the < and >
cursor keys to highlight the desired choice, and then press <ENTER>.
