EC-342 (650-0860) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 16776

INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERIES

Your EC-342 is powered by four AA batteries. For best performance and
longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat.
No. 23-552.

CAUTIONS: You should always keep a written record of all important names
and numbers. All electronic devices are subject to possible
           data loss.

To prevent losing information stored in your EC-342, do no press
any button while you replace the batteries.

1. Remove the screw from the latch on the battery compartment cover.
Then push the latch in the direction of the arrow and lift open the
    cover.

2. Insert the batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols marked
    inside the compartment.

3. Replace the cover and screw.

The batteries should last about 1 year based on an average of 20 calls per
day, dialing 16 digits each call. If the display dims, replace the
batteries.

Your EC-342 also has a backup battery that protects the memory when the
main batteries are dead or removed. This battery lasts about five years.
If your EC-342 loses all information when you remove the main batteries,
take it to your local Radio Shack store and ask to have the backup battery
replaced.

CONNECTING THE AUTO-DIALER

Your Ec-342 uses modular telephone jacks to connect to the phone line. If
your telephone and/or line does not have modular jacks, you can purchase
the necessary adapters at your local Radio Shack store. Or, you can have
your local telephone company update your wiring.

Tour EC-342 dials using standard touch tones. If you do not subscribe to
touch-tone service, you must order this service from your local telephone
company.

The telephone company will charge you installation of the necessary jacks
and any change in service. The telephone company will ask you for the USOC
of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ-11C.

Follow these steps to connect the auto-dialer to your phone line.

1. Unplug the modular cord from your telephone and plug it into your
    EC-342's LINE jack.

2. Plug one end of the supplied modular telephone cord into your EC-342's
PHONE jack. Then plug the cord's other end into the phone's modular
    jack.
