EC-453 (650-0920) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 15144
The Radio Shack EC-453 8-Digit LCD Dual-Powered Calculator is an example
of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help
you care for your calculator so you can enjoy it for years.
Keep the calculator dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits.
Use and store the calculator only in normal temperature environments.
Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage
batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts.
Handle the calculator gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage
circuit boards and cases and can cause it to work improperly.
Keep the calculator away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature
wear of parts.
Wipe the calculator with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking
new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong
detergents to clean the calculator.
Do not bend or twist the calculator. Carrying it in a pants pocket
could bend it.
Modifying or tampering with your calculator's internal components can
cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your
calculator is not wearing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack
store for assistance.
REPLACING BATTERIES
Although the calculator uses solar power most of the time, the internal
battery could eventually become weak and need replacing. When the display
speed slow down in a dark room, follow these steps to replace the battery
with an LR1130 button-cell battery (Cat. No. 23-117).
1. While pressing and holding down the battery compartment cover's right
side, slide the cover to the right to remove it.
2. Remove and discard the old battery.
Warning: Do not allow children to play with the old battery. It can be
harmful or fatal if swallowed.
Cautions: Always dispose of the old battery promptly and properly. Do
not bury or burn it.
Never leave a dead, old weak battery in the calculator.
Batteries can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic
circuits.
3. Insert a fresh batteries in the compartment with the positive side
(+) facing up.
Caution: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type.
4. Replace the cover.
Notes: If you do not plan to use the calculator for a month or more,
remove the battery to protect the calculator from possible battery
leakage.
If the calculator does not work properly, remove and reinstall
the battery. If the calculator still does not work properly,
replace the battery.
