USING THE PHONE FOR DATA TRANSMISSION

You can use your phone with a portable computer or fax machine that has a
standard modem to create a go-anywhere data terminal. The optional
Data/Voice Accessory (Cat. No. 17-720) must be connected to the phone to
do this. Follow the instructions that come with the Data/Voice accessory
to install it.

When the function is set, the phone's volume control is disabled, and the
Data/Voice accessory presets the listening volume level to the midway
position. When the function is disabled, normal volume control operation
is restored.

1. Press "SEL", "SEL", "GHI4", to display the current status.

2. To select between DATALINK OFF and DATALINK ON, press "SEL".

NOTE: If you must talk to someone at the other end of the line, use the
handset to set up data communications. Hands-free audio does not
work when you set DATALINK to on.

3. When you complete the data communication, press "END" to return the
    phone to the normal display.

Transferring Data in Manual Mode

1. Using the handset, manually call the intended receiver and make voice
    contact.

2. Once contact has been made, instruct the call receiver that you intend
to transmit data and tell the receiver to listen for a fax tone. Then
press SEL to turn DATALINK ON.

3. As soon as the receiver hears the fax tone the receiving phone must be
switched from handset to data. At that time the receiver must press
START to begin MANUAL reception of the data.

4. Once the data has been transferred, press SEL to turn DATALINK OFF and
    then terminate the call.

Logging in a Password using Data Box

1. Set switch to "VOICE".

2. Dial phone number.

3. When call is connected, set switch to "DATA".

4. Set modem to forced connection through initialization string. (ie. AT
    & CO)

5. After modem completes forced connection, set initialization string to
    forced disconnection. (ie. AT HO)

6. To disconnect, set switch back to "VOICE" and press [END] on phone to
    complete the call.
