CHARGING THE BATTERY

Recharge the battery when the BATT LOW indicator lights.

Note: If battery power is low, POWER is ON, and the handset is not in
use, BATT LOW slowly flashes. If battery power is too low, the
BATT LOW indicator does not light.

When you recharge the battery, you can set POWER to ON, but the battery
recharges more quickly if you set POWER to OFF.

When you install a new battery, set POWER to OFF. Then, charge the
battery for at least 24 hours before you use the phone.

To charge or recharge the battery, place the handset on the cradle. The
CHARGE indicator lights.

Notes: The first time you use the phone after you install a new battery,
it might not work and you might hear an error tone. This also
might happen after you recharge the battery when it has completely
        discharged.

If this happens, be sure the handset is turned on. Then, return
the handset to the cradle for 5 seconds. This resets the security
        access code.

If the CHARGE indicator does not light when you place the handset
on the cradle, be sure the battery and AC adapter are correctly
        and securely connected.

Also, check the charging contacts on the handset and base. If the
contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a pencil eraser.

About once a month, fully discharge the battery. Otherwise, the
battery loses its ability to fully recharge.

To fully discharge the battery, keep the handset off the cradle
until the BATT LOW indicator comes on. Then, set POWER to OFF,
return the handset to the cradle, and fully recharge the battery.

REPLACING THE BATTERY

If you follow the instructions in "Charging the Battery", the supplied
battery should last for several years. When the battery loses its ability
to fully charge, order a replacement battery through your local Radio
Shack store.

Install the battery as described here. Then, charge the battery as
described under "Charging the Battery."

1. Remove the MEMORY directory and its plastic cover from the handset.

2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the
battery compartment cover. Then, remove the cover by sliding it in
    the direction of the arrow.

3. Attach the battery's connector to the connector inside the battery
compartment. Then, place the battery inside the compartment.

4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

5. Replace the MEMORY directory and its plastic cover.

Please note the following when replacing the battery in the telephone:

Use only a direct replacement battery (CTB-1T1350, available from
Consumer Mail Center, through your local Radio Shack store).

Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. The cell might explode.
Check with local codes for possible special disposal instructions.

Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released electrolyte is
corrosive and might damage eyes or skin. It can be fatal if
    swallowed.

Exercise care in handling the battery in order to not short it with
conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery
or conductor might overheat and burn.

SETTING THE DIALING MODE

Set MODE for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which type
of service you have, do this test.

1. Set MODE to TONE.

2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone.

3. Press any number other than 0.

If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service.

If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set MODE to
    PULSE.
