CT-504 Handheld Flip-Style Cellular Telephone
(170-1114) Pre-Paid Operation Faxback Doc. # 51379

Your CT-504 Cellular Telephone is capable of operating either with
conventional cellular service or with pre-paid cellular service.

Pre-paid cellular service lets you purchase credit for cellular airtime in
advance and store that credit in your phone. As you make and receiver
calls, your phone automatically debits each call against the stored
credits. Using pre-paid operation lets you have cellular service without
any monthly service charge or unexpected bills.

When you purchase your CT-504 Cellular phone, you were offered either
conventional or pre-paid cellular service. If you decided to activate
your CT-504 as a conventional cellular phone, your RadioShack sales
representative will have programmed and activated your phone for you and
this section does not apply.

If you decided to activate your CT-504 on pre-paid cellular service, read
through this section to become familiar with pre-paid operation.

When activated for pre-paid operation, your CT-504 Cellular phone displays
several messages to inform you of its status.

Each time the phone is turned on, it displays: 1 screen with "crdduE" at
the bottom and one screen with "Mmddyy" at the bottom of the display.

This date informs you when the units of airtime currently stored in your
phone expire (if the pre-paid service provider enforces an expiration
date). Check with your pre-paid service provider to see if this applies
to your account.

About 6 seconds after you turn on the phone, it displays: 1 screen with
"unHHH_H" at the bottom of the display.

This message lets you know how many pre-paid airtime units remain in the
phone. You may add to this number at any time by purchasing and loading
additional units. (This display replaces the on message described
elsewhere in this manual.

Note: Your pre-paid service center will provide you information on how to
       purchase additional airtime.

Activating Pre-Paid Operation

To activate your CT-504 phone for pre-paid operation, follow the "Pre-Paid
Activation Instructions" included on a separate sheet. You must call the
number provided on the Pre-Paid Activation Instruction sheet and follow
these steps to enter several code numbers provided to you by the pre-paid
service provider.

1. Press [FCN] then [ABC 2]. Your CT-504 displays:

1 screen with "EntEr" at the bottom of the display and one screen
with "codE" at the bottom of the display.

2. Enter the code number provided by the pre-paid service representative,
then press [STO]. If you entered the information correctly, your
    CT-504 displays:

One screen with "UALid" at the bottom of the display.

    Otherwise, it displays:

One screen with "InvALid" printed at the bottom of the display.

If you make an error, press [FCN][ABC 2] again and re-enter the code
    number.

Your phone is ready to operate.

Notes: Do not change the System Type as described in "Setting the
Cellular System Type" in Faxback Doc. # 51378.

Your CT-504 is only capable of one phone number when activated for
        pre-paid operation.

Activation instructions might vary slightly between service
        providers.

Preparation and Adding Pre-Paid Units

1. Charge your battery (see "Charging the Battery" on Faxback Doc. #
    51375.

2. We recommend you record your phone's Electronic Serial Number (ESN)
here. The number is on the back of the handset under the battery.

My phone's serial number is: _________________________________

3. Once your battery is charged, use a regular telephone (not your
cellular phone) to call the Pre-Paid Service Center. The number will
be on the Pre-Paid Activation Instruction sheet. Record that number
    here for reference.

My Pre-Pain Service Center number is: _________________________

4. The Pre-Paid service representative will ask you for your ESN, and the
local area code and /or ZIP code.

5. The pre-paid service representative will then give you the phone
number for your CT-504. Write that number here for reference.

My pre-paid cellular number is: _______________________________

6. The representative will then provide you a series of code numbers to
enter into your CT-504 phone. These numbers are unique to your phone
and must be entered in the order provided.

7. After entering the code numbers provided, your CT-504 is programmed
    for use.

The pre-paid service representative will tell you when you can expect your
phone to be activated.

Additional minutes are added in a manner similar to the activation
process. Typically, they are available to use right away.

Placing A Call

Placing a call is no different than conventional operation, providing the
unit has enough airtime units to complete at least one minute of that
call.

When you dial a call and press [SND], the phone displays:

1 screen with "db HH_H" at the bottom of the display.

This message indicates the number of units that will be debited from the
phone per minute for the call. This debited amount depends on whether the
dialed number is local or long distance, and whether the phone is roaming.

If the call would require more units than presently stored in the phone,
the phone does not start the call and displays:

1 screen with "LoW Un" at the bottom of the display.

This message lets you know that you have too few units remaining to make
that call.

If you attempt to make a call that is not allowed by your pre-paid service
provider, you see the message:

1 screen with "dEniEd" at the bottom of the display.

An example of this would be attempting to dial an international call using
an account that does not have international calling.

Answering A Call

Answering a call in no different than conventional operation except that
when [SND] is pressed, the phone displays:

1 Screen with "db HH_H" at the bottom of the display,

indicating the rate in units for each minute of the call. After 3 seconds
that display returns to the

1 screen with "unHHH_H" at the bottom of the display,

message, where XXX_X is the remaining airtime units.

If you do not have enough units to receive the call for the first minute,
then the phone beeps and displays:

1 screen with "LoW Un" at the bottom of the display.

If Pre-Paid Operation is Disabled

If your phone shows the message

1 screen with "PpcIS" at the bottom of the display,

contact your Pre-Paid Service Center. This message indicates that the
pre-paid function has been disabled. Your phone will not operate until
the condition is corrected.

Notes: If your CT-504 was previously programmed for conventional cellular
operation, you can change it to pre-paid operation by purchasing
pre-paid airtime units at your local RadioShack store. You must
first close the existing conventional cellular account and disable
the second phone number feature, if it was enabled.

If your CT-504 was previously programmed for pre-paid cellular
operation, you can change it to conventional operation by
contacting your pre-paid service provider. The pre-paid service
representative will provide you with a code number to enter into
the phone to disable pre-paid operation. You must then have your
phone reprogrammed at your local RadioShack store or another
        cellular service center.
