Introducing the Menu Features

The M70 cellular phone is loaded with handy features that can help make
life easier, more productive, and just a bit more exciting.  The phone's
user friendly menu system will help you find what you need quickly and
easily.

You can navigate through the menu system using the three keys located on
the left side of the phone.  Use the upper and lower volume keys to scroll
to submenus and features.  Use the middle Smart Button to choose menus and
features.

Navigating the menu

This manual uses these symbols to instruct you to use the Smart Button and
the upper and lower volume keys.

Press [Volume Up] to scroll up.

Press [Smart Button] to select.

Press [Volume Down] to scroll down.

Previous User Compatibility

If you are already familiar with previous Motorola cellular phones, you
can also use your phone's [<*] and [#>] keys to scroll through the menu
system.

Road Maps

To help you navigate through the phone's menu system, each chapter begins
with an easy-to-follow visual "road map."  Simply press the key shown and
observe the message that appears in the display.  For example, try this:

1.  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu features.

    You will see the first menu:  Phone Book.

2.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll through the menu's top
    level, shown below.

3.  Press [END] to exit the menu.

Menu Features

Press [Smart Button] to display the features when you see any of the 
following menus on your display:

     Phone Book - Lets you store and recall numbers.

    Call Timers - Can monitor the length of your calls.

  Tone Controls - Adjust your phone's tones.

  Lock/Security - Features prevent unauthorized access.

  Phone Options - Can be set to your specifications.

        Message - Provides access to messaging options.

Detailed instructions in each chapter take you step-by-step through each
feature.  Now it's time to take the plunge.  Move at your own pace,
experiment, and have fun!

Shortcuts

Experienced Motorola Users:  Watch for the "Shortcut:" box.  You will find
many of the same key sequences you have used with other Motorola models!

Phone Book

In "Using Memory" you learned how to store and recall phone numbers with
the internal Phone Book.  You can access the same features using the M70
cellular phone's convenient menu system-the choice is yours!  In this
chapter you will also learn about advanced storing features that help you
use calling cards and access automated calling systems.

In this chapter you will learn how to:

  recall and store phone numbers using the menu system.

  simplify automated calling systems like Voice Mail.

  store calling card sequences for easy access.

  edit your memory information.

  view your own phone number.

Note:  Follow these symbols as it guide for using the keys on the side of
       your phone.

Getting to Phone Book . . .

1.  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.

2.  Press to scroll to Phone Book and press [Smart Button] to select.

3.  Press to scroll to the following features:

Recall By Name

Once you have stored names and numbers, you can recall then alphabetically
with the Phone Book menu.

4.  Press [Smart Button] to select Recall By Name.  You will see:
    "Enter 1st Letter".

5.  Enter the first letter of the name you want to recall from memory.
    See Faxback Doc. # 48742 for details on entering letters.  The display
    will show the first name that begins with that letter.

6.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the name you are
    looking for:

    Press [RCL] two times if you want to see the number stored with the
    name.

7.  Press & hold [Smart Button] or press SEND to call the number of the
    entry you selected.  You will see:  "Dialing 3125551234".

8.  Press [END] or close the phone to end the call.

       or

    Press & hold [Volume Down] until you hear two tones.  You will see:
    "(Smart Button symbol) To End Call".

       then

    Press [Smart Button] again to end the call.

Recall By Location

Each name and number you store is placed in a memory location numbered
01-50.  Once you have stored names and numbers, you can recall them by
memory location with the Phone Book menu.

4.  Press [Smart Button] to select Recall By Location.  You will see:
    "Location ____".

5.  Enter the two-digit memory location of the number you're looking for.
    The display will show the memory location along with the stored phone
    number.

Tip:  If Name Preference is ON, you will see the name instead of the
      number.  See below for details on Name Preference.

6.  Press & hold [Smart Button] or press SEND to call the number you
    selected.  You will see:  "Dialing 3125551234".

7.  Press [END] or close the phone to end the call.

       or

    Press & hold [Smart Button] until you hear two tones.  You will see:
    (Smart Button symbol) To End Call.

       then

    Press [Smart Button] again to end the call.

1.  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.

2.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Phone Book and press
    [Smart Button] to select.

3.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the following
    features:

Storing with the Menu

You can use the phone's menu system to store names and numbers in the
Phone Book.  Whether you store numbers as described in the previous
chapter or store numbers with the menu, you will get the same results, so
give it a try!

4.  Press [Smart Button] to select Store Number.  You will see:  
    "Enter Number".

5.  Enter the phone number you want to store.

6.  Press [Smart Button] when you are finished entering the number.  You
    will see: "Location _____".

7.  Enter the two-digit location where you want the number stored.

       or

    Press [<*] to store the sequence in the next available location.

       or

    Enter the first digit of the memory location and press [<*] to store
    the sequence in the first available location with that first digit.
    You will see:  "Alpha Or (Smart Button symbol)".

8.  Enter a name to identify the phone number, or skip this step and
    continue with Step 9.

Storing with the Menu

9.  Press [Smart Button] or press [STO] when you are finished entering the
    name.  Your phone will confirm your entry by displaying the location,
    number, and name you stored.  Proceed with Step 10 below or continue
    with step 5 above to store more numbers.

10.  Press [END] to exit menu.

Tip:  If chosen location is full, you can press [END] to exit, press [CLR]
      to return to step 7, or press [STO] to overwrite the entry currently
      stored in that location.

1.  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.

2.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Phone Book and press
    [Smart Button] to select.

3.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the following
    features:

Editing a Memory Location

After you have stored names and numbers into the Phone Book, you can edit
the information or erase entries at any time.

4.  Press [Smart Button] to select Edit.

5.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll By Location or By Name.

       then

    Press [Smart Button] to select.

6.  By Location

    You will see:  "Location __".

    Enter the two-digit memory location of the phone number you want to
    edit.  You will see the phone number for that memory location.

    Continue with Step 7.

      or

    By Name

    You will see:  "Enter 1st Letter".

    Enter the first letter of the name you want to edit.  See Faxback
    Doc. # 48742 for information on entering alpha characters.  You will
    see the name stored in the first memory location beginning with that
    letter.

      then

    Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the name you are
    looking for.

7.  Press [Smart Button] to begin editing the phone number.  The display
    will show the name briefly, then the phone number.

8.  Enter your changes to the phone number.

    Press [CLR] to erase one digit at a time.  Press & hold [CLR] to erase
    the entire number.

9.  Press [Smart Button] when you finish editing the phone number.  The
    display will show the location where your number is currently stored.
    You will see:  "Location XX".

10.  Press [CLR] to erase one digit of the memory location at a time and
     enter a new two-digit location.

        or

     Press [Smart Button] to keep the phone number in its current
     location.  The display will show the name stored with the phone
     number you are editing.

11.  Enter your changes to the name.  See Faxback Doc. # 48742 for details
     on entering names.

     Press [CLR] to erase one letter at a time, or skip this step to leave
     the name unchanged.

12.  Press [Smart Button] when you finish editing the name.  The display
     will show the new information and ask if you want to save your
     changes.  You will see:  "XX is Full 3125551212 Change?"

13.  Press [Smart Button] to save your changes.  Your M70 will confirm
     your entry by displaying the location, number, and name you stored.

        or

     Press [CLR] to choose a new memory location and return to step 10.

        or

     Press [END] to exit without saving your changes.

14.  Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.

1.  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.

2.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Phone Book and press
    [Smart Button] to select.

3.  Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the following
    features:

Viewing Your Own Number

Use this feature to view your phone's currently active phone number.  If
you have more than one phone number, you can change the active number with
the Change Number feature in the Phone Options menu (see Faxback Doc.
# 48748).

4.  Press [Smart Button] to select My Number.  Your active phone number
    will appear for six seconds, then the display will return to My
    Number.

5.  Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.

    Shortcut:  Press [RCL] then [#>] for a quick look at your phone
               number.

Name Preference

This feature determines the order in which the Phone Book displays
information.  When you recall by location with Name Preference OFF, you
will see the stored phone number.  Press [RCL] to see the associated name.
When Name Preference is ON, the Phone Book displays the name first and you
must press [RCL], [RCL] to see the phone number.

4.  Press [Smart Button] to toggle Name Preference On or Home Preference
    Off.

5.  Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.

    Tip:  If you subscribe to Caller ID, turning Name Preference ON is
          recommended so that you can see the name of the caller.  See
          Name Preference above and Caller ID in Faxback Doc. # 48748.

    Shortcut:  Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then 1, 2 and
               continue with step 4.

Pause Dialing

When you call automated systems, a recorded message prompts you for PIN
numbers, account numbers, etc.  You can store these numbers in the same
memory location as the automated system's access number.  Just separate
the numbers with "pauses" - special characters that tell your phone to
wait before sending additional numbers.

1.  Enter the phone number you use to access the automated system.

2.  Press [FCN] then press SEND.  You will see:  Insert Pause 0.

       then

    Press [Smart Button] to insert a pause (0) into the sequence.

3.  Enter the next group of numbers, for example, an account number or PIN
    number.  If the automated system requires a * or #, enter those
    symbols, too.

4.  Insert another pause and enter the next group of numbers by repeating
    steps 2 and 3 as many times as necessary.  When you've entered the
    entire sequence, proceed to step 5.

    Tip:  You can store up to 32 digits, including pauses.

5.  Press STO to begin storing.  You will see:  "Location ___".

6.  Enter the two-digit memory location where you want the sequence
    stored.  You will see:  "Alpha Or (Smart Button Symbol)".

7.  Enter a name for your sequence.  See Faxback Doc. # 48742 for details
    on entering names.

8.  Press [Smart Button] when you are finished entering the name.  Your
    phone will confirm your entry by displaying the stored information.

Once stored, simply recall the entry and press & hold [Smart Button] or
press [SEND] to place the call.  When the recording prompts you for
information, just press [Smart Button] or [SEND] and your phone will send
the next set of numbers you've stored.  Press [Smart Button] or press
[SEND] as many times as necessary to transmit all the numbers.

Storing Calling Card Information

In addition to pauses, your M70 phone can store a Number Character to save
a place for the phone number you will be calling when you use your calling
card.  For information on protecting your calling card information, see
"Lock/Security," in Faxback Doc. # 48747.

1.  Enter the phone number you use to access your calling card system.
    Skip this step if you only dial [0].

2.  Press [FCN] the press [SEND].  You will see:  "Insert Pause o".

       then

    Press [Smart Button] to insert a pause (o) into the sequence.

3.  If necessary, enter the next group of numbers.  For example, some long
    distance carriers require you to dial a 0 before the number you are
    calling.  If no further numbers are needed, skip to Step 4.

4.  Press [FCN] then press [SEND].  You will see:  "Insert Pause o".

       then

    Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to "Insert Number N".

       then

    Press [Smart Button] to insert the N character into the sequence.
    This special character saves a place for the phone number you will be
    calling.  The number will be inserted into the sequence automatically
    when you place the call.

5.  Press [FCN] then press [SEND].

       then

    Press [Smart Button] to insert another pause, as in step 2.

6.  Enter your calling card PIN number.

7.  Press [STO] to store your calling card sequence.  You will see:
    "Location ___".

8.  Enter the two-digit memory location where you want the sequence
    stored.  You will see:  "Alpha Or (Smart Button symbol)".

9.  Enter a name for your sequence.  See Faxback Doc. # 48742 for details
    on entering names.

10.  Press [Smart Button] when you are finished.  Your phone will confirm
     your entry by displaying the location, number and name you stored.

Placing a Calling Card Call

Once you've stored your calling card information, just recall the entry,
enter the number of the person you are calling, and your phone will do the
rest!

1.  Recall the calling card information you've stored.  See Faxback Doc.
    # 48742 for more information on Recalling Numbers.

2.  Press [SEND] before entering number.  You will see:  "Enter Number".

3.  Enter the phone number you want to call, including the area code.  You
    may enter the number manually, by location, or recall.

4.  Press & hold [Smart Button] or press [SEND] to place the call.  Your
    phone will dial the number to access your long distance provider.  You
    will see:  "Dialing 3125551234".

5.  Press [Smart Button] or press [SEND] to send the next group of numbers
    when you are prompted.  The phone will automatically insert the
    selected number to call at the appropriate spot in the sequence.

6.  Repeat step 5 to send the next group of numbers as many times as
    necessary.

7.  Press [END] or close the phone to end the call.

       or

    Press & hold [Smart Button] until you hear two tones.  You will see:
    "(Smart Button symbol) To End Call".

       then

    Press [Smart Button] again to end the call.
