Battery Overview
Battery Types
To determine your battery type, refer to the package content sticker on
the side of your phone's shipping box.
IMPORTANT: Use only Motorola original batteries, chargers, and
accessories with your M70 phone.
Note: Look for Motorola Original logos on all accessories.
E-P Batteries
Motorola's E-P (Expert Performance) batteries represent the latest in
battery charging capabilities. Matching a Motorola E-P battery with a
Motorola E-P charger helps achieve both optimal charge capacity and
battery life for your battery.
Lithium Ion Batteries
Motorola's Lithium Ion (LiIon) batteries are high energy density batteries
which are lighter and offer increased capacity than NiCd and NiMH
batteries of equivalent size.
Nickel Cadmium Batteries
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries can be optimally charged with any Motorola
approved charger.
Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are high capacity batteries, which
offer up to 30% more talk-time than comparable Nickel Cadmium batteries.
Tip: To extend battery life, do not leave a Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) battery in the charger for more than 24
hours.
Tip: Any battery not shipped with your phone is available separately.
Talk-Times and Standby-Times
Talk-time refers to the time you can talk on your phone before the battery
is discharged. Standby-time is the time that your phone is on but not
used for talking.
Sleep Mode
Sleep Mode is a feature that increases your phone's standby-time. If the
D icon on your phone is displayed, you are in an area where Sleep Mode is
available. If your phone is in standby mode, press any key to see if your
D icon is displayed.

Note: Sleep Mode is a network dependent feature, not available in all
areas. Standby-times may be reduced if Sleep Mode operation is not
available. Talk-times are for TDMA digital operation. All times
are approximate and depend on network, signal strength, and
function selected.
CAUTION: To prevent injuries or burns, do not allow metal objects to
contact or short circuit the battery terminals.
Using the Battery
Battery Storage Case
Your phone's batteries are shipped uncharged, protected by a plastic
storage case. You should use this case to store and carry batteries.
The storage case prevents objects from touching the battery terminals,
thereby reducing the risk of injury or damage from a short circuit. To
begin using your Micro TAC battery unsnap the top of the plastic storage
case and remove your battery.
Keep in mind: New batteries must be charged overnight before using them
for the first time.
Battery Installation
1. Find the imprinted arrows on the back of the phone. Place the battery
on the back of your phone so that the release latch is just below the
bottom of the arrows.
2. Slide the battery up following the arrows until it clicks into place.
Removing Batteries
Make sure your phone is OFF before removing the battery.
1. Press and hold the battery release latch on the top rear of the
battery.
2. Slide the battery downward until it stops, and lift off.
Using the Internal Charger
Believe it or not, there's a battery charger built right into your phone!
Using either the optional AC adapter or cigarette lighter adapter, you can
plug your phone directly into a power supply and charge an attached
battery. When the internal charger is in use, and the phone is ON, you
can still place and receive calls. Just remember talking on the phone
requires energy, so charging will take more time.
1. Plug the adapter into the appropriate power source. In some cars, the
ignition must be ON to use the cigarette lighter.
2. Plug the AC adapter or cigarette lighter adapter into the accessory
connector on the bottom of your phone, with the half moon facing up.
3. Your phone will turn ON.
What you will see when charging:
The battery indicator will flash while your phone is charging. When the
battery is fully charged, the battery indicator will stop flashing.
Tip: Pressing PWR once will place the phone in charger only mode. Your
battery will charge most quickly in this mode.
Using the Charger
Desktop Chargers
Motorola's desktop chargers can accommodate one or two MicroTAC batteries.
The front pocket of the dual-pocket charger can charge a battery
independently or attached to a phone, and the rear pocket can charge a
battery separately. A single pocket charger is also available.
The battery in the front pocket of a dual-pocket charger has priority and
charges first. When the front pocket battery is fully charged, the
charger then begins to charge the second battery. The phone may be turned
on while in the charger, but the rate of charge will be reduced.
Charger Setup
1. Plug the socket end of the AC adapter into the wall.
2. Plug the connector of the AC adapter into the charger base, with the
half moon facing down.
3. Insert the phone, with a battery attached, into the front charger
pocket and/or a spare battery in the rear pocket.
What you will see when charging:
A red light means the battery is charging.
Flashing yellow means the battery is waiting to be charged.
A green light means the battery is charged within 90% of its capacity
and is ready for use. An additional hour of charging will bring your
battery up to 100% capacity.
A flashing red light indicates that the battery is damaged and cannot be
charged.
