Main menu: Tailoring your phone's features to your needs.
Your phone's features and settings can all be accessed using the main
menu, even during a call. Here's how to go about it.
Navigating through the menu.
To display the main menu, press [MENU].
To scroll through menu items, press [/\*] or [#\/]. You can also scroll
through the menu by continuing to press [MENU].
To go back one step, press [CLR] briefly.
To select a menu item, press the number corresponding to it.
To scroll through possible settings, press [/\*] or [#\/].
To save a setting, press [OK].
To exit the menu and return to the standby screen, press [END] or press
and hold [CLR]. No changes will be saved.
Taking a menu shortcut.
If you're in a hurry, just press [MENU] and the numbers on the menu
screen. For example, if you press [MENU], followed by [4] and [1], the
phone will display the volume setting for the ringer.
Understanding menu items: Managing your phone's settings.
Keeping track of calls.
1: Call Logs. These options help you remember whom you called and who
called you, along with how much airtime you have used.
Times are displayed in hours, minutes and seconds (for
example. 03h 42m 23s).
>1: Outgoing Lists the last nine numbers you called. Press [/\*] or
[#\/] to scroll through the list.
>2: Incoming Lists the numbers of the last nine callers to your Sprint
PCS Phone. Press [/\*] or [#\/] to scroll through the
list.
>3: Erase Logs To clear your call log, press [OK]. To exit without
clearing the log, press [END] or [CLR].
>4: Airtime Check to see how much airtime you have used by selecting
this option.
1: Last Call. Displays the phone number of your last
call, the date and time the call was made, and the
duration of the call.
2: Total. Displays the total number of calls made and
received, along with the total amount of airtime
used.
Note: This log begins tracking airtime as soon as you
press [TALK], so the airtime displayed will be
different from the airtime shown on your
invoice.
3: Erase Total. To reset your airtime log to zero, press
[OK]. To keep the log, press [CLR].
Maintaining your internal phone book.
2: Phone Book These options let you manage the numbers stored in your
phone's internal phone book.
>1: Recall by Lets you look up numbers stored in your internal phone
book.
1: Name. Enter the name or the first letter or letters
of the name then press [OK].
The phone indicates the number of matches it found
then displays the first name and number from the list
of matches. (Names stored in locations 90 through 99
are secret and won't be displayed.) To scroll
through the list, press [/\*] or [#\/]. To dial a
displayed number, press [TALK].
2: Digits. Enter as many consecutive digits of the
phone number as you know, then press [OK]. The phone
tells you how many matches it found then displays the
first number and name from the list of matches.
(Numbers stored in locations 90 through 99 are secret
and won't be displayed.) To scroll through the list,
press [/\*] or [#\/]. To dial a displayed number,
press [TALK].
3: Mem #. Enter the two digit memory location code.
Or, if you want to scroll through the entire list of
stored numbers, press [OK]. Press [TALK], to dial a
displayed number.
2: Store Lets you store a number in the phone's internal phone
book. Enter the number to be stored and then press [OK].
To store the number in the next available memory location,
press [OK] again. Next, enter the name that will be used
to identify the number and press [OK]. (See Faxback Doc.
# 48401 for more information on entering names.)
3: Erase by Lets you delete numbers from your internal phone book.
1: Name. Enter the name or the first letter or letters
of the name then press [OK]. If more than one match
is found, scroll the entries by pressing [/\*] or
[#\/]. When the number you want to delete is
displayed, press [OK] to remove it from the internal
phone book. The phone displays "Erased" to confirm
that the number was erased and then returns to the
standby display.
2: Mem #. Enter the two-digit memory location code of
the number you want to erase, or press [/\*] or [#\/]
to scroll through the entire phone book. When the
number you want to delete is displayed, press [OK] to
remove it from the internal phone book. The phone
displays "Erased" to confirm that the number was
erased and then returns to the standby display.
Calling for help.
3: Services. Use this option when you need assistance making calls or
if you have questions about your Sprint PCS Phone or
service.
>1: DirAssist Connects you to Sprint PCS Directory Assistance. For more
information on the services of Sprint PCS Directory
Assistance, refer to Faxback Doc. # 48400.
>2: Customer Dials Sprint PCS Customer Care (except in Southern
California, where this feature is unavailable).
Adjusting your phone's volume.
4: Sounds. This allows you to adjust the volume of the ringer and key
beep. In addition, you can select the type of sounds you
hear when the phone rings.
>1: Ring Vol To adjust the ringer, press either [/\*] or [#\/], or the
volume key. Settings are "OFF," "LOW," "MED" and "HIGH."
The default is "MED." You can also adjust the ringer
volume simply by pressing the volume key while the phone
is in standby. If you select "OFF," the ("no" bell) icon
and "RINGER OFF" will be displayed on the screen.
To temporarily silence the ring of an incoming call, press
the volume key or [END] while the phone is ringing.
>2: Key Vol This adjusts the volume of the keep beep. Settings are
"OFF," "LOW," "MED" and "HIGH." The default is "MED."
>3: Ring Type Use this feature to change the sound of your phone's ring.
As you press [/\*] or [#\/] to scroll through the possible
settings, your phone will play the ringer options for you.
Your options include four musical selections. The default
setting is "RING 1."
>4: Msg Ring Lets you choose how you want to be notified of short
messages (when available). Settings are "OFF," "ONCE" and
"EVERY 2 MIN."
Determining what is displayed.
5: Display. These options let you customize your phone's display
screen.
>1: Backlight With this function, you can choose how long your phone's
screen and keys remain illuminated. Possible settings are
"FLIP OPEN," "30 SECONDS" (that is, 30 seconds after the
last key press), "8 SECONDS" or "OFF." Select short
settings to conserve power. The "FLIP OPEN" option will
drain power quickly. The default setting is "8 SECONDS."
>2: My Phone# Displays your Sprint PCS Phone Number.
>3: Greeting Use this to customize the display you see when your phone
is in standby. You can input any message, such as your
name, up to 12 characters long. Enter the characters just
as you would for the phone book.
>4: Version Displays the version number of the software installed on
your Sprint PCS Phone.
Maintenance phone security.
6: Security This option allows you to lock or restrict your Sprint PCS
Phone to prevent unwanted usage. You can receive incoming
calls or make emergency calls when your phone is locked,
but all other phone functions are disabled. With the
Restrict setting, you can also block incoming calls.
Unlike other menu options, you must enter a lock code to
access the Security menu. Your lock code is typically the
last four digits of your Sprint PCS Phone Number or the
last four digits of your social security number or tax ID
number. You can change it, but be sure to keep a record
of your new code. If you forget it, you will have to take
your phone to the nearest Sprint PCS Center for
assistance. Sprint PCS Customer Care cannot assist you
over the phone because your phone will have to be
reprogrammed.
>1: Lock First, decide when you want your phone to be locked.
Possible settings are "OFF," "NOW" and "ON POWER-UP." If
you choose "ON POWER-UP," your phone will be locked every
time you turn it on. If you select "NOW," your phone will
be locked immediately. The default is "OFF."
>2: Restrict With restrict mode, you can limit how your phone is used.
1: Phone Book Determines whether you can access the
phone book and call logs and make calls
directly from them. Possible settings are
"UNRESTRICT" and "RESTRICT." If you
choose "RESTRICT," Access to the phone
book and call logs is disabled, although
you still can receive calls and dial phone
numbers directly. Speed Dialing will not
be available if the phone book is
restricted.
2: Incoming. Determines whether incoming calls can be
received on your Sprint PCS Phone.
Possible settings are "UNRESTRICT" and
"RESTRICT." The default setting is
"UNRESTRICT." If you choose "RESTRICT,"
calls cannot be received on your phone,
but callers can leave a voicemail message.
The phone will display "Incoming Call
Restricted."
3: Outgoing Determines whether outgoing calls can be
made from your Sprint PCS Phone. Possible
settings are "UNRESTRICT" and RESTRICT."
The default setting is "UNRESTRICT." If
you choose "RESTRICT," outgoing calls
cannot be made from your phone (except to
911 or your stored emergency numbers).
>3: Lock Code If you don't want to use your phone's original lock code,
you can use this option to enter your own new four-digit
number. Be sure to pick a number that is easy to
remember. If you change your lock code and forget it, you
will have to take your phone to the nearest Sprint PCS
Center for assistance.
>4: Emergency# You can store up to three emergency numbers. You can call
these three numbers, 911 and Sprint PCS Customer Care even
when your phone is locked or restricted. When dialing an
emergency number, you must dial it exactly as you stored
it in order to override the lock and restriction settings.
>5: ResetPhone Select this option to reset all of the features on your
Sprint PCS phone (except emergency numbers and the lock
code) to their default settings and to clear the phone
book memory. The display screen will prompt "Will erase
phone book." Press [OK] to complete the reset. Press
[END] or press and hold [CLR] to exit without resetting
the settings and phone book.
Choosing the right alerts.
7: Alert. Your Sprint PCS Phone comes with options that keep you
aware of what's going on.
>1: Minute Beep This option is like a minute minder that beeps ten
seconds before the end of each minute during a call.
Setting are "ON" and "OFF." The default setting is "OFF."
>2: Service When this option is "ON," your phone will sound a tone
when the status of your service changes. The default
setting is "OFF."
Customizing the way your phone works.
8: Setup. The following features make your phone even easier to use.
>1: Auto Retry This programs the phone to automatically redial a number
when the system is busy. (Auto Retry doesn't apply if the
number you are calling is busy.) Possible settings are
"ON" and "OFF." The default setting is "ON."
>2: Any Key Ans When this setting is "ON," you can press any key to answer
incoming calls (except PWR, END or the volume keys).
Possible settings are "ON" and "OFF." The default setting
is "OFF."
>3: Tone Length You can set the length of the tone that sounds when you
press a key. Your options are "SHORT" and "LONG." The
key beep length may be important if you use your phone to
pick up messages from your home answering machine or to
access automated phone systems. The default setting is
"SHORT."
