Saving numbers and names to memory keys

You can save the numbers and names of your customers, business associates,
or anyone you call frequently in Meridian 9516CW's five memory keys.  You
can also assign those numbers Call Announcements (Voice Tags) and personal
greetings.  See Directory in Faxback Doc. #46284 for more information on
saving additional numbers and names to the Directory.

Note:  To achieve the best sound quality for recorded greetings and Call
       Announcements, it is recommended that you record by speaking into
       the handset instead of the handsfree microphone.

To save a new name and number to a memory key:

1. Press [Save].

2. Press the desired memory key.

Note:  If you attempt to save to a memory key that already contains an
       entry, the message, key in use, Delete to change, appears.  You
       must first delete the old entry before saving a new one.  See
       Deleting memory keys below for more information.

3. Enter the number using the dial pad.

4. Press [Save].  Only the number is stored at this point.

5. If you do not want a name, go to step 6.  To enter a name, use the dial
   pad.  See Entering Names in Faxback Doc. # 46284.

6. Press [Save].

7. Select the mailbox number you want to assign to this person.  If you do
   not select a mailbox, the General Mailbox is assigned.  See Mailboxes
   in Faxback Doc. # 46435.

8. Press [Save].

9. Lift the handset and press Record to record a Call Announcement (Voice
   Tag).  See Call Announce (Voice Tag) in Faxback Doc. 46284.

   Note: If you do not want to record a Call Announce message, go to Step
         13.

10. Record your Call Announcement (Voice Tag) after the tone.

11. Press [Save].

12. Press [Play] to review your recording.

13. Press [Save].

14. Press [Ris].

Saving from the display to memory keys

To save from the display to a memory key when not on an active call:

1. Ensure that a number is on the display.  (For example, access the
   Redial List, Callers' List or Directory.)

2. Press [Save].

3. Press the desired memory key.  If the name was displayed with the
   number, both are now saved in the memory key.

4. If no name is displayed, you are prompted to enter one.  If you do not
   want to enter a name, go step 5.  To enter a name, use the dial pad.
   See Entering Names in Faxback Doc. # 46284.

5. Press [Save].

6. Select the mailbox number you want to assign to this person.  If you do
   not select a mailbox, the General Mailbox is assigned.  See Mailboxes
   in Faxback Doc. # 46435.

7. Press [Save].

8. Lift the handset and press Record to record a Call Announcement (Voice
   Tag).  See Call Announce (Voice Tag) in Faxback Doc. # 46284.

   Note: If you do not want to record a Call Announce message, go to step
         13.

9. Record your Call Announcement (Voice Tag) after the tone.

10. Press [Save].

11. Press [Play] to review the recording.

12. Press [Save] to end your recording.

13. Press [Ris].

14. Label the memory key.  See the diagram Labeling the memory keys below.

    Note: To record a personalized greeting for a memory key entry, see
          Personalized Greetings for Memory keys below.

Note:  Some of the memory keys may be factory programmed.  These keys are
       locked and cannot be erased or reprogrammed.

To save a displayed number to a memory key when on an active call:

1. Make or answer a call.

2. Press [Save].

3. Press the desired memory key.  If the name is displayed with the
   number, both are now saved in the memory key.

4. Select the mailbox number you want to assign to this number.  If you do
   not select a mailbox, the General Mailbox is assigned.  See Mailboxes
   in Faxback Doc. # 46435.

5. Press [Save]. Do not press [Ris] or else you will hang up on your call.

Notes: If you want to save a displayed long distance number to a memory
       key, you may have to add digits.  Using the dial pad, press 1 and
       the area code if necessary.

       Some of the memory keys may be factory programmed.  These keys are
       locked and cannot be erased or reprogrammed.

Recording a Call Announcement (Voice Tag) for a memory key

You can also record Call Announcement (Voice Tag) to a programmed memory
key.  See Call Announcement (Voice Tag) on Faxback Doc. # 46284 for more
information.

Labeling the memory keys

After programming the memory keys, label them with the supplied blank
labels and key caps.*

* Keep key caps and the sliding panel away from small children. These
small parts may come off the telephone if it is dropped.

Personalized Greetings for Memory keys**

** You must subscribe to your telephone company for the Calling Line
Identification service for this feature to work.

You can record a personal greeting for the numbers stored in your memory
keys. When the call is received and the number is matched to a number key,
the caller will hear the personal greeting you have recorded.

For example, if someone named Peter calls, the message could be:

"Hi Peter. The time for the dinner meeting tonight is now 7:30 pm instead
of 6:30 pm."

Note:  If you assign a personal greeting to someone who is already 
       assigned to a mailbox, that person will hear the Personal Greeting
       instead of a mailbox greeting.

To record a personalized greeting for a memory key:

1. Press the desired memory key.

2. Press [Record].

3. Lift handset and press [Record].

4. Record your personalized greeting.

5. Press [Save] to end your recording.

6. Press [Ris].

To listen to a personalized greeting stored in a memory key:

1. Press the desired memory key.

2. Press [Play].

3. Press [Ris].

Note:  The Live dial pad option must be turned off to listen to greetings
       in memory keys.  See Selecting the dial pad mode in Faxback Doc.
       #46286 for more information.

To change a personalized greeting stored in a memory key:

1. Press the desired memory key.

2. Press [Record].

3. Lift handset and press [Record].

4. Re-record your greeting.

5. Press [Save] to end your recording.

6. Press [Ris].

Note:  The Live dial pad option must be turned off to edit memory keys.

To delete a personalized greeting stored in a memory key:

1. Press the desired memory key.

2. Press [Play].

3. While the personalized greeting is playing, press [Delete] twice.

4. Press [Ris].

Note: The Live dial pad option must be turned off to edit memory keys. See
      Selecting the dial pad mode in Faxback Doc. # 46286 for more
      information.

Making calls from memory keys

To call from a memory key:

1. Lift the handset or press either [handsfree Mute] or [Dial].

2. Press the memory key with the number you want to dial out.

To predial from a memory key:

1. Press the memory key with the number you want to dial out.

2. Lift the handset or press either [handsfree Mute] or [Dial].

Note:  If the Live dial pad option is turned on, you do not have to lift
       the handset or press any other button.  Pressing the memory key
       will automatically dial the number and put the telephone in
       Handsfree mode.

Editing memory keys

To edit memory key:

1. To see its contents, press the memory key.

2. Press [<| ].

3. If you do not want to change the number, go to step 4. To backspace and
   erase digits, press [<| ].  To add digits, use the dial pad.

4. Press [Save].

5. If you do not want to change the name, go to step 6.  To add letters,
   use the dial pad.  See Entering Names in Faxback Doc. # 46284.  To
   erase letters, press [<| ].

6. Press Save.

7. Select the mailbox number you want to assign to this person.  If you do
   not select a mailbox, the General Mailbox is assigned.  See Mailboxes
   in Faxback Doc. # 46435.

8. Press Save.

9. If a Call Announcement already exists, the display asks you to press
   [Play] to review it.  To record a new Call Announcement (Voice Tag),
   lift the handset and press [Record]. or If a Call Announcement does not
   already exist and you want to record a new one, lift the handset and
   press [record].

   Note: If you do not want to record a new Call Announce message, go to
         step 13. See Call Announcement (Voice Tag) on Faxback Doc # 46284
         for more information.

10. Record your Call Announcement (Voice Tag) after the tone.

11. Press Save.

12. Press Play to review your recording.

13. Press Save.

14. Press Ris.

Note:  The Live dial pad option must be turned off to edit memory keys.

Deleting memory keys

Before you can save to a memory key that already contains a saved entry (a
name, number, feature code, etc.), you must first delete the odd contents
of the memory key.

To delete a memory key:

1. To see its contents, press the memory key.

2. To erase, press Delete twice.

Note:  The Live dial pad options must be turned off to edit memory keys.
       See Selecting the dial pad mode in Faxback Doc. # 46286 for more
       information.

Saving features In memory keys *

For easy access, you can save the feature codes of telephone company
services in your memory keys.  This works well with network features such
as Call Forwarding, Call Waiting and Call Return.  Some features require
an On and Off code in two separate keys, while other features are stored
in only one key.  The following procedures show you how to save both On
and Off codes.

To save a feature On code:

1. Press [Save].

2. Press the desired memory key.

   Note:  If you attempt to save to a memory key that already contains an
          entry, the message, key in use, Delete to change appears.  You
          must first delete the old entry before saving a new one.  See
          Deleting memory keys above.

3. Enter the telephone company feature code for turning the feature on.
   Read the display to confirm the number.

4. Press [Save] again.

5. Enter the feature name using the dial pad.  See Entering Names in
   Faxback Doc. # 46284.

6. Press [Save] three times to save the name and skip the mailbox and
   voice tag prompts.

7. Label the memory key.

* Note: Contact your local telephone company for the appropriate feature
        codes.

To save a feature Off codes:

1. Press [Save].

2. Press the desired memory key.

   Note: If you attempt to save to a memory key that already contains an
         entry, the message, key in use, Delete to change, appears.  You
         must first delete the old entry before saving a new one.  See
         Deleting memory keys above.

3. Enter the telephone company feature code for turning the feature off.
   Read the display to confirm the number.

4. Press [Save] again.

5. Enter the feature name using the dial pad.  See Entering Names in
   Faxback Doc. # 46284.

6. Press [Save] three times to save the name and skip the mailbox and
   voice tag prompts.

7. Label the memory key.

Using feature keys

When a memory key is programmed with a feature code, you can use the
memory key to activate or deactivate the feature.

To turn a feature on or off:

1. Press the memory key where you stored the desired feature.  The display
   shows the feature name and code.

2. Lift the handset or press either [handsfree Mute] or [Dial].
   The feature code is dialed out, which turns the feature on or off.

Note: If the Live dial pad option is turned on, you do not have to lift
      the handset or press any other button.  Pressing the memory key will
      automatically dial the feature code and put the telephone in
      Handsfree mode.

You must subscribe to your telephone company for Custom Calling Features.

Saving a feature and light to memory keys

You can make the set indicator light come on when you turn a feature on
and go off when you turn that same feature off. You can only do this with
one feature, and the feature must have separate On and Off codes (such as
Call Forwarding).

For example, you may want the light to remind you that you have turned
Call Forwarding on.  To do this, use one key to turn the indicator light
on when you activate the feature. Use the second key to turn the indicator
light off when you deactivate that same feature.  The following procedure
shows you how to program a Feature Light On and Off Key.

To save a Feature Light On key:

1. Press [Save].  Do NOT select a memory key yet.

2. To program the light on, press [1].

3. Press the desired memory key.

   Note: If you attempt to save to a memory key that already contains an
         entry, the message, key in use, Delete to change, appears.  You
         must first delete the old entry before saving a new one.  See
         Deleting memory keys above for more information.

4. Enter the telephone company feature code for turning the feature on.

5. Press [Save].

6. Read the display to confirm the number.

7. Label the memory key.

To save Feature Light Off keys:

1. Press [Save].  Do NOT select a memory key yet.

2. To program the light off, press [0].

3. Press the desired memory key.

   Note: If you attempt to save to a memory key that already contains an
         entry, the message, key in use, Delete to change, appears.  You
         must first Delete the old entry before saving a new one.  See
         Deleting memory keys above for information.

4. Enter the telephone company feature code for turning the feature off.

5. Press [Save].

6. Read the display to confirm the number.

7. Label the memory key.

Note: Contact your telephone company for the appropriate feature codes.

Using Feature Light keys

To turn a feature and its light on or off:

1. Press the memory key where you stored the Feature Light.  The display
   shows Feature Light ON or Feature Light OFF.

2. Lift the handset or press either [handsfree Mute] or [Dial].  The
   feature and light turn on or off.  (When the feature and light are on
   and you are not using the telephone, the display shows feature ON as a
   reminder).

Note: If the Live dial pad option is turned on, you do not have to lift
      the handset or press any other button.  Pressing the memory key will
      automatically dial the feature code and put the telephone in
      Handsfree mode.
