Introduction
General Details
The telephone is available in both Mobile and Soft Pack Transportable
versions; this user guide covers both versions.
Mobile Telephone
The Mobile telephone comprises:
- Core Kit (includes handset and transceiver)
- Vehicle Installation Kit (trunk mount version)
- Optional Accessories: External Speaker
Data/Fax Interface Box.
The Mobile telephone is ready for use when:
- it has been installed by an authorized dealer, and
- your number has been registered by the cellular operator.
Soft Pack Transportable
The Soft Pack Transportable comprises:
- Core Kit (includes handset and transceiver)
- Soft Pack Transportable Kit (non-handsfree version)
- Optional Accessories: Soft Pack Transportable Handsfree Conversion
Kit
Soft Pack Transportable Battery Kit (inc. AC
Charger)
External Speaker
Data/Fax Interface Box.
The Soft Pack Transportable is ready for use when:
- it has been fully assembled (this is normally carried out by your
dealer), and
- your number has been registered by the cellular operator.
To charge the Soft Pack Transportable battery, refer to the separate
instruction sheet contained in the Battery Kit.
Handset Controls
[SEND] - Makes a Call. Redials the last number.
[RCL] - Recalls stored numbers from memory.
[VOL] - Adjust earpiece and loudspeaker volume.
[PWR] - Switches telephone on and off. Mutes microphone during a call.
[*] - Scrolls to the previous Memory location or Advanced Function (Menu).
[#] - Scrolls to the next Memory location or Advanced Function (Menu).
[1 QZ], [2 ABC], [3 DEF], [4 GHI], [5 JKL], [6 MNO], [7 PRS], [8 TUV],
[9 WXY] and [0 OPR] - Used to enter numbers, letters, spaces, and for DTMF
dialing. Keys [0 OPR] (Operator) and [9 WXY] (Emergency Services) can also
be used for Easy Dialing.
[CLR] - Clears digits from the display.
[STO] - Stores a number from the display into memory.
[MU] - Gives access to Menu of Advanced Functions.
[END] - Ends a call.
Display Details
LIGHTS:
ROAM - indicates the telephone has locked to a system other than its home
system.
CALL - Indicates when a call is in progress.
- Flashes on receipt of an incoming call.
- If a call attempt is unsuccessful, the CALL light remains off and an
error tone is heard.
SIG - Indicates the received signal strength:
Steady - strong signal; expect a good quality call.
Flashing - moderate signal; expect some noise.
Not illuminated - weak or no signal; do not make a call.
Indicators:
HORN - Horn alert facility is enabled.
ALPHA - The telephone is ready to accept alphabetical characters when stor-
ing a name and number in the memory. Alternatively, it may be scrol-
ling through the memory performing alpha (name) search to locate the
number associated with a specified name.
NSVC - Cellular service is not available; calls may not be made or received.
Audible Tones
Your telephone will produce the following audible tones:
- a ringing tone, to denote an incoming call.
- a keypress confirmation tone (short tone), denoting a valid keypress.
- a keypress error tone (longer tone) denoting an invalid keypress.
- alert/warning tones.
When a handset cradle is used (i.e., as for a Mobile telephone, or Soft
Pack Transportable with hands-free option):
- all tones are produced via the loudspeaker in the cradle.
- the keypress confirmation tone is a DTMF tone for the numeric ([0 OPR]
to [9 WXY]), [*] and [#] keys, and a single tone for the other keys.
For a Soft Pack Transportable without the hands-free option (i.e., no
handset cradle):
- the tones are produced via the handset ringer.
- the keypress confirmation tone is a standard short tone for any key.
Using the PIN Code
In order to access certain secure functions and facilities, which are
described later in this user guide, you must first enter a 4-digit Person-
al Identification Number (PIN code).
When you are required to enter this number, it is indicated in this user
guide as follows: 4-digit PIN.
On a new telephone, or if the number has not been changed, the number is
0000. To change the number, refer to - Using the Advanced Functions
'Change PIN' (D4).
