CT-460 Hands-Free Cordless Telephone
(430-1060) Operation Faxback Doc. # 38247

HEADSET OPERATING PROCEDURES

Choosing a Headset Style

The CT-460 phone offers two styles of headset tops from which to choose.
You should evaluate both styles and determine which one best meets your
needs.

The earbud headset is a miniaturized top that rests gently in the outer ear.
Given its design, this top can be put on and off with one hand and can be
easily stored.

The headband headset is worn over the head with a receiver that rests on
the outside of the ear. This top offers premium comfort, fit and stability.

If multiple users plan to share the CT-460 phone, each top may be assigned
to a specific user. Additional tops may also be purchased as spares (see
section on Spares Accessories). In this way, users may use their own
personal top when operating the CT-460 phone.

HOWEVER, ONLY ONE TOP MAY BE USED WITH THE CT-460 PHONE AT ANY ONE TIME.

Using the Earbud Headset

In order to provide the most secure and cushioned fit, the earbud style
headset is shipped with the stabilizer ear cushion already attached. This
cushion is the recommended option for users.

For those requiring a looser fit, the earbud headset may also be worn with-
out an ear cushion.

When using the headset with the stabilizer ear cushion, place the receiver
and the circular portion of the cushion inside the ear.

Gently push the stabilizer into the upper ear cavity. Adjust the headset
boom so that the microphone is directed toward the corner of the mouth.

Using the Headband Headset

Adjust the headband to the appropriate length. Carefully bend the metal
section of the headband for a tighter or looser fit.

Place the receiver so that it is centered over either ear. Position the
headband pad so that it is positioned above and not on the ear.

Adjust the headset boom so that the microphone is directed toward the
corner of the mouth.

Using the Clothing Clip Option

To keep the headset cable close to your body and out of the way, attach the
clothing clip to your clothing.

REMOTE PACK OPERATING PROCEDURES

Making a Call

To make an outgoing call, put on the headset top and turn on the remote
pack by pressing one of the On/Off keys. The On/Off/Mute indicator on the
remote pack and the In Use indicator on the base unit will turn on.

Listen for a dial tone, then dial a phone number manually or by memory
speed dial.

At the end of your conversation, press one of the On/Off keys to end your
call. The On/Off/Mute indicator on the remote pack and the In Use indicator
on the base unit will turn off.

Answering a Call

To receive an inbound call, make sure that the ringer control on the remote
pack is turned on or that you can hear the ringer of your base unit.

When the remote pack and/or the base unit rings, put on the headset top and
answer the call by pressing one of the On/Off keys. The On/Off/Mute indica-
tor on the remote pack and the In/Use indicator on the base unit
will turn on.

At the end of your conversation, press one of the On/Off keys to end your
call. The On/Off/Mute indicator on the remote pack and the In Use indicator
on the base unit will turn off.

Adjusting the Headset Volume

To increase the headset receiver volume, press the VOLUME + key. To decrease
receiver volume, press the VOLUME - key.

If either key is pressed and released several times in succession, the
volume level will continue to step up or down until it reaches a maximum
or minimum level.

Using Memory Speed Dial

To store phone numbers into memory speed dial:

Press the MEM/STORE key while the remote pack is inactive (i.e., On/Off/Mute
indicator is off).

Manually enter the phone number to be stored. Each number may be up to 16
digits long and may include one or more PAUSE or TONE key sequences (See
section on Using Other Function Keys).

After entering the last of the key sequence, press the MEM/STORE key again
and enter one of ten memory locations (i.e., 0-9).

The remote pack will give a long audio tone if the above process is complet-
ed successfully.

For future reference, enter the memory location and the phone number on
the memory dial directory.

Turn on the remote pack by pressing one of the On/Off keys.

Listen for a dial tone, then press the MEM/STORE key and the memory location
of the phone number to be dialed (i.e., 0-9).

Using Other Function Keys

MUTE Keys

In the mute mode, a caller will be unable to hear you, but you will be
able to hear the caller.

To mute the headset microphone, press and release one of the MUTE keys.
The ON/OFF/MUTE indicator will flash when the headset is in this mode.

To turn the mute mode off, press one of the MUTE keys again. Once the mute
mode is disabled, the caller will once again be able to hear you and the
ON/OFF/MUTE indicator will cease flashing, but remain lit.

REDIAL/PAUSE Key

To call the last number dialed, press the Redial/Pause key while the remote
pack is turned on.

To insert a 3 second pause in a memory dialing sequence, press the redial/
Pause key when entering a number into memory storage.

CHNL Key

If you experience interference during your phone conversation, press the
CHNL key to select a new, clear channel.

If the remote pack is out of range or no other channels are clear, the
remote pack will beep twice and remain unchanged.

FLASH Key

If you subscribe to special services from your phone company, (e.g., call
waiting), you may use the FLASH key to access these services.

TONE (*) Key

In order to interact with system such as voice mail and answering machines,
you may need to use tone dialing. Even if your base unit is normally set
to use (P) dialing, you may still switch to tone dialing via the remote
pack.

To temporarily switch to tone dialing, press the TONE (*) key while the
remote pack is on. Once in tone dialing mode, the remote pack will remain
in this mode until the unit is turned off.

Responding to Low Battery Indicators

When using the phone, you will be notified of a low battery condition by
both an audible tone and a flashing LOW BATTERY indicator. These indicators
will be activated approximately four minutes before the battery pack is
completely discharged.

If you try to turn on the remote pack when it is experiencing a low battery
condition, the On/Off/Mute indicator will flash 3 times and turn off.

Once you notice the low battery indicators, immediately recharge the batt-
ery pack by placing the remote pack in the cradle of the base unit. If the
battery pack is allowed to discharge completely, you may lose the phone
numbers stored in memory speed dial.

Once the battery pack is recharged the low battery indicators will turn off.

The headset may be used while the battery pack in the remote is being
recharged (see section on "Operating the Remote Pack from the Cradle",
below).

Operating the Remote Pack From the Cradle

The remote pack and headset will operate when seated in the cradle of the
base unit, even when the battery pack is discharged.

Replacing the Battery Pack

The battery pack may need to be replaced when it is no longer able to main-
tain a charge. When replacing the battery pack, use only an equivalent
pack (e.g., Sanyo # 3N-270 AA, 3.6 V, 270 mAh).

Before operating the headset, follow the instructions outlined in the
section on "Installing and Charging the Battery Pack".

Once the new battery pack is fully charged, re-enter any phone numbers that
were previously stored in memory speed dial (see section on "Using Memory
Speed Dial").

The RBRC (TM) Seal and Battery Recycling

The RBRC (TM) Seal on the nickel-cadmium battery pack contained in our
product indicates that Plantronics is voluntarily participating in an
industry program to collect and recycle these battery packs at the end of
their useful life, when taken out of service within the United States.
The RBRC (TM) program provides a convenient alternative to placing spent
nickel-cadmium battery packs into the trash or municipal waste stream,
which is illegal in some areas.

Plantronics's payments to RBRC (TM) makes it easy for you to drop off the
spent battery pack at local retailers of replacement nickel-cadmium batter-ies. You may also contact your local recycling center or Plantronics at
1-800-544-4660 for information on where to return the spent battery pack.
Plantronics's involvement in this program is part of its commitment to pro-tecting our environment and conserving natural resources.

SYSTEM OPERATING PROCEDURES

Maintaining Clear Communications

To minimize communications interference, limit the operation of other radio
frequency devices around the CT-460 phone. Such devices include other cord-less phones, wireless PBX systems and wireless local area networks.

When turned on, the CT-460 phone will automatically select a clear communi-cations channel from the 10 channels available. If this channel starts to
degrade, press the CHNL key to select a new, clear channel.

If the remote pack is moved outside the range of the base unit, communica-tions between the units will become intermittent. To restore communications,
move the remote pack closer to the base unit.

If you try to turn on the remote pack when it is out of range or no channels
are available, the On/Off/Mute indicator will turn on and then off. Audible
tones will also be heard.

Maintaining Secure Communications

Every time the remote pack is placed in the cradle of the base unit, a
unique security code is established between the two units (i.e. one of
65,000 codes). Once this code is established, other remote packs will be
unable to make or receive calls from this same base unit.

Using the PAGE Key

To page a headset user or locate the remote pack, you may use the PAGE key
on the base unit. For Page to work, the ringer on the remote must be set
to the On position.

To send a quick paging signal, press and release the PAGE key. The remote
pack will ring once for several seconds.

To send a sustained paging signal, press the PAGE key twice in succession.
The remote pack will ring continuously for 25 seconds or until you press
one of the On/Off keys on the remote.

Using the Headset Holder Options

When the remote pack is in the base unit cradle and the headset is not in
use, the headset tops may be stored in one of two headset holders.

In desk top applications, the headset tops may be stored in the base unit
headset holder. In wall mount applications, the headset tops may be stored
in the wall mount headset holder.
