ET-400 Cordless Electronic Telephone System
(430-0550) Security Code Faxback Doc. # 38122
Entering the Security Code
Understanding the Security Code
The exclusive programmable security code feature built into your ET-400
will prevent unauthorized use of your phone line. Each time you press
TALK PUSH HANG-UP, your personally selected security code is automatically
transmitted from the Handset to the Base Unit. The Base Unit compares the
code from the Handset with its security code. If the two codes are the
same, you may proceed with the call; if they are not the same, the Handset
will sound an error siganl and the TALK indicator will go off. Once you
have entered the security code, the above "verification" procedure takes
place automatically each time you press TALK PUSH HANG-UP.
To Enter the Code
(1) With the Handset turned on, press the CODE ENTER button on the back of
the Base Unit. You will hear a short tone from the Handset and its TALK
indicator will light.
(2) Enter any four-digit number on the Handset keypad. (Use 0-9 keys only.)
The TALK indicator will go off and you will hear another short tone.
Your security code has now been entered inthe Handset and the Base Unit.
Security Code Hints
* A memory protection circuit in the Base Unit holds the memory for 2-1/2
hours after the Base unit is unplugged. The security code will be lost,
and must be re-entered, if you allow the Handset battery pack to discharge
completely or if you unplug the Base Unit for over 2-1/2 hours. If the
code is lost, you will hear the error signal when you press TALK PUSH HANG-
UP.
* The security code prevents other cordless telephones from initiating or
answering a call on your phone line. It does not prevent other radio units
on the same frequency from inadvertently hearing your conversation or
causing interference on your ET-400; this can happen with any cordless
telephone.
