BATTERY INFORMATION

Installing/removing the battery

Refer to `Installing the Battery' (page 7). Always switch off the phone
before removing the battery.

Charging Information

Remember that you must charge the battery before you can use the phone.
The battery may be charged with the phone switched on or off; charging
will be slightly faster with the phone switched off. You can use the
phone while the battery is being recharged.

STOP

TO ACHIEVE FULL BATTERY CAPACITY, NEW BATTERIES MUST BE CHARGED WITH THE
PHONE OFF FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE INITIAL USE.

Standby and Talk Times

Approximate standby and talk times, for fully-charged batteries:

Battery Type Talk time Standby time

Light NiCd 300mAh (BTH-8L)* 40 minutes 9 hours

Standard NiCd 380mAh (BTH-8S) 50 minutes 10 hours

Standard NiMH 550mAh (BTH-8SM) 70 minutes 15 hours

Extended NiCd 800mAh (BTH-8H) 110 minutes 26 hours

Extended NiMH 1100mAh (BTH-8HM) 150 minutes 32 hours

* subject to availability

NOTE:

1. Standby time will be reduced by approximately 1 hour for every
    6 minutes of talk time.

2. The following conditions will educe battery performance:

    Temperature extremes.

    Poor charging or discharging practises.

    Improper storage.

3. Do NOT "Short Out" the battery. (Direct connection of the + and -
    terminals on the battery.)

4. Do NOT attempt to discharge the battery with any other method or
system other than those approved by Nokia Mobile Phones.

5. NiCd and NiMH battery performance will vary with condition of battery.

NiCd

    CONTAINS:

NICKEL CADMIUM BATTERY. MUST BE RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.
MUST NOT BE DISPOSED OF IN MUNICIPAL WASTE.

Battery Charge Indicator

The battery charge indicator (`1' in diagram below) on the display shows
the approximate level of charge. The indicator consists of a number of
bars; the more bars showing, the greater the remaining charge.

Non-charging indication

If the batter is too hot or cold the bars on the battery charge indicator
will flash (and the battery will not be charged).

Low-Battery Indication

When the charge falls to approximately 5%, the message BATTERY LOW is
displayed. It will be repeated every five minutes if the phone is in
standby mode, or every minute if in a call.

When the battery is fully discharged, the message RECHARGE BATTERY is
displayed, and the phone will switch off automatically.

Battery Performance

Batteries will last longer and perform better if allowed to discharge
fully at least once a week. You can do this by leaving the phone switched
on overnight (or longer for a high-capacity battery, type BTH-8H or
BTH-8HM), until the message RECHARGE BATTERY is displayed and the phone
switches off. Alternatively, you can use the deep-discharge facility if
this is available on your (optional) Desktop Stand.

Storage

When a battery is not in use, store it uncharged in a cool, dark and dry
place. If left unused, a fully-charged battery will discharge itself in a
few weeks at room temperature.

No Serviceable Parts

The battery is a sealed unit; do not attempt to open the case. Do not
short-circuit the terminals.

Disposal of batteries

Batteries must be re-cycled or disposed of properly. Do not dispose of
the batteries in a fire.
