CONNECTING THE BASE TO POWER
Once you select a location for the base, follow these steps to connect it
to power.
1. Insert the AC adapter's barrel plug into the 9V DC jack on the back of
the base.
2. Plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet.
INSTALLING THE HANDSET'S ANTENNA
Insert the antenna into the hole at the top of the handset, then rotate the
antenna clockwise until it is secure.
CONNECTING/CHARGING THE BATTERY
Your phone comes with a rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery pack in the
handset. Before you use your phone for the first time, or when you install
a new battery, you must connect the battery to the handset and charge it
for about 24 hours before you use the phone.
The battery pack automatically charges when you place the handset on the
base. When fully charged, the battery pack provides enough power to keep
the handset working even when it has been off of the base for a long time.
Follow these steps to connect the battery.
1. Press down on the handset's battery compartment cover and slide it off
to remove it.
2. Pull and lift the front tab on the battery restraining strip to remove
it.
3. Connect the battery's wires to the battery connector inside the compart-
ment.
4. Replace the battery restraining strip and the cover.
To charge the battery pack, return the handset to the base for 10 to 14
hours.
NOTES: The CHARGE indicator on the base lights when the handset is on the
base.
When the battery gets low the handset sounds a beep every 7 seconds.
If this happens, immediately disconnect the call (or use another
extension phone) and recharge the battery.
Periodically clean the charging contacts on the handset and base with
a soft cloth.
CONNECTING THE BASE TO THE PHONE LINE
To connect the base to the phone line, plug the modular cord into a modular
phone line jack.
SETTING THE DIALING MODE
Set TONE/PULSE for the type of service you have, tone or pulse (rotary). If
you are not sure which type you have, do this test.
1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE.
2. Pick up the handset (press TALK if you do not hear a dial tone).
3. When you hear a dial tone, press any number other than 0.
If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. Leave TONE/PULSE set to
TONE. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set TONE/PULSE
to PULSE.
