(170-1068) Battery Faxback Doc. # 33444

INSTALLING THE BATTERY

1. Place the base of the battery into the lower part of the phone.

2. Push the top of the battery toward the upper part of the phone until
    the catch clicks.

To remove the battery:

1. Press and hold the catch.

2. Pull the top of the battery away from phone.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

Let the battery charge for 24 hours before initial use. After initial use,
full battery charging takes about 5 hours.

1. Plug the supplied charger's connector into the phone.

2. Connect the charger to a standard 120V AC outlet.

NOTE: You can use the phone while charging the battery. For the
fastest charging, make sure the phone is off.

3. When charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the AC outlet,
then from the phone. For further details, see "The Battery", below.

The battery charge indicator shows the approximate level of charge. The
more bars showing, the greater the remaining charge.

When the phone is turned off and the battery charger is connected, only
the B appears.

When the phone is turned on and charging, the bars on the battery charge
indicator scroll. When the battery is fully charged, the scrolling stops
and all bars are on (steady).

STANDBY AND TALK TIMES

Approximate standby and talk times, for fully-charged batteries:

Battery Type Standby Time Talk Time

Standard Battery (Cat. No. 17-738) 10 hours 50 minutes

Extended-Life Battery (Cat. No. 17-739) 26 hours 10 minutes

NOTE: You will obtain the standby time specified or the talk time
specified, or a combination. For example, for the standard
battery, 10 hours standby time or 50 minutes talk time is about
equal to 5 hours standby time and 25 minutes talk time.

NON CHARGING INDICATION

If the battery is too hot or cold, the bars on the battery charge indicator
flash (and the battery is not charged).

LOW-BATTERY INDICATION

When the charge falls to approximately 5%, the phone displays BATTERY LOW.
This message repeats every 5 minutes if the phone is in the standby mode,
or every minute during a call.

When the battery is fully discharged, the phone displays RECHARGE BATTERY,
and the phone automatically turns off.

BATTERY PERFORMANCE

Batteries last longer and perform better if you allow them to discharge
fully at least once a week. You can do this by leaving the phone on
overnight, until the phone displays RECHARGE BATTERY and turns off.

STORAGE

When a battery is not in use, store it uncharged in a cool, dark and dry
place. If left unused, a fully-charged battery loses its charge in a few
weeks at room temperature.

NO SERVICEABLE PARTS

The battery is a sealed unit; do not attempt to open the case.

Do not short-circuit the terminals.

DISPOSAL OF BATTERIES

At the end of the battery's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of
properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management
authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area.
Some options that might be available are: Municipal curbside collection,
drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back
programs.
