CHARGING THE BATTERY

You must charge a new battery for at least 24 hours before you use the
phone. Also, recharge the battery when the handset beeps every 30 seconds
or TALK/HANG UP LOW BATT flashes.

To charge or recharge the battery, place the handset on the cradle.
CHARGE lights.

NOTES: If CHARGE does not stay lit when you place the handset on the
cradle, be sure the battery and AC adapter are properly connected.

Also, check the charging contacts on the handset and base. If the
contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a pencil eraser.

A full charge lasts about 2 days if you do not use the phone.
Be sure to return the handset to the base when you see TALK/
        HANG UP LOW BATT flash.

After the first charging, you should recharge the handset's
battery's 2 hours for every 1 hour of use.

About once a month, fully discharge the battery. Otherwise, the
battery loses its ability to fully recharge, and you have to
recharge and replace it more often.

To fully discharge the battery, keep the handset off the cradle
until TALK/HANG UP LOW BATT flashes. Then return the handset to
the cradle and fully recharge the battery.

SETTING THE DIALING MODE

Set TONE/PULSE for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which
type of service you have, do this test.

1. Set TONE/PULSE to TONE.

2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone.

3. Press any number other than 0.

NOTE: If your phone system requires that you dial an access code (9, for
example) before you dial an outside number, do not press 0 or the
       access code.

If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service.

If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set TONE/PULSE to
PULSE and return the handset to the cradle. The next time you make a
call, the phone uses pulse dialing.

If you have pulse service, you can still use touch tones to use special
services such as bank-by-phone.

SETTING THE RINGER VOLUME

Your telephone has two ringer volume levels. To switch between the two
levels, remove the handset from the base and press TALK so the TALK/HANG
UP LOW BATT indicator is off. Then press FLASH/RINGER to switch between
the two ringer levels. The phone sounds the ring each time you press
FLASH/RINGER.
