ET-509 Cordless Telephone
(430-1017) Operation Faxback Doc. # 19239
For the best reception, stand the base's antenna up vertically.
MAKING/ANSWERING A CALL
To make a call, pick up the handset and press TALK. When you hear a dial
tone, dial the telephone number. When you are finished, press TALK to hang
up, or return the handset to the base if you are close enough to do so.
Note: If you place the handset on the base without pressing TALK to hang
up, the phone automatically hangs up. The next time you pick up the
handset, the phone will automatically be on.
To answer a call, simply lift the handset from the base (or press TALK if
it was not on the base). When you are finished, return the handset to the
base (or press TALK to hang up).
NOTES: If you press TALK accidentally within 2-3 seconds of lifting the
handset (if the phone is already on), the phone ignores your
command. After 2-3 seconds, pressing TALK will disconnect the
line.
If you first answer a call on an extension phone and you wait 10
seconds after the last ring to lift the cordless handset, you might
have to press TALK to answer the call.
Error Tone
When you press a button, a brief tone sounds to indicate that the phone
accepted the command. If you are out of range or there is too much
interference, a short, low-frequency error tone sounds. Move the handset
closer to the base and try again.
USING FLASH
FLASH sends the electronic equivalent of a switchhook signal. Use FLASH
with special phone company services such as call waiting. If you have call
waiting, press FLASH to take an incoming call without disconnecting the
current call. Press FLASH again to return to the first call.
NOTE: If you do not have any special phone services, pressing FLASH might
disconnect the current call.
USING REDIAL
Use REDIAL to quickly redial the last number dialed. Lift the handset or
press TALK, then press REDIAL after you hear a dial tone.
NOTES: The redial memory holds up to 63 digits, so you can redial long-
distance as well as local numbers.
When you redial a number which includes FLASH, only the numbers
after FLASH are dialed. For example, if you dial 1 2 3 4 FLASH 5 6
7, pressing REDIAL will only redial 5 6 7.
TEMPORARY TONE DIALING
If you have pulse service, you can dial a number as usual, then temporarily
switch to tone service for banking services or computer transactions.
Simply press TONE* at the appropriate place in the call to change to tone
dialing. The phone automatically returns to pulse dialing when you
disconnect your call.
