Headset Cordless Telephone
(430-0569B) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 19223

After you install the phone, complete the procedures in this section.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY

Follow these steps to install the supplied battery into the remote keypad.
Then charge the battery as described under "Charging the Battery", see
below.

1. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the
battery compartment cover, and remove the cover.

2. Plug the battery’s connector into the connector inside the battery
compartment. Then place the battery inside the compartment.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

You must charge the remote keypad’s battery for at least 24 hours before
you use the phone. Recharge the battery when the LOW BATT indicator lights.

If charged as described below, the supplied battery should last for several
years. When the battery loses its ability to fully recharge, operation
time is reduced.

Cautions for replacing the battery:

Use a replacement battery of the required type (3.6V 300 MAh
rechargeable battery, available at your local Radio Shack store).

Do not dispose of the battery in a fire because it can explode.

Do not open or mutilate the battery. Swallowing the battery can be
    fatal.

Be careful not to short the battery with conducting materials, such as
rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor might overheat
    and burn.

At the end of the battery’s useful life, it must be recycled or
disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous
waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal
programs in your area. Some options that might be available are:
municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling
    collection centers, and mail-back programs.

Follow these steps to charge the battery.

1. Set POWER to OFF.

2. Place the remote keypad on the cradle. The CHARGE indicator on the
    phone’s base lights.

NOTES: If battery power is low, POWER is set to ON, and the headset is not
in use, the LOW BATT indicator slowly flashes. If battery power is
too low, the indicator does not light.

The battery recharges if POWER is set to ON, but it recharges more
quickly if you set POWER to OFF.

If the CHARGE indicator does not light when you place the remote
keypad on the cradle, check to be sure the AC adapter is securely
        connected.

Also, check the charging contacts on the remote keypad and base. If
the contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a pencil
        eraser.

The first time you use your phone, you might hear error tones.
This occurs if the access-protection code is not set. (You do not
hear the error tones if POWER is set to OFF).

If you hear the error tone, set POWER to OFF and back to ON. Then
return the remote keypad to the cradle for at least 5 seconds to
        reset the access-protection code.

About once a month, fully discharge the battery. Otherwise, the
battery loses its ability to fully recharge and you will have to
        replace it sooner.

To fully discharge the battery, keep the remote keypad off the
cradle until the LOW BATT indicator lights. Then return the remote
keypad to the cradle and fully recharge the battery.

INSTALLING THE HEADSET HANGER

To install the headset hanger on the phone’s base, push the end of the
hanger with the locking tabs down into the slot on the back of the phone’s
base. Be sure the hanger tabs lock firmly into place.

Now you can place the headset in the cradle at the top of the headset
hanger.

SETTING THE DIALING MODE

Set PULSE-TONE for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which
type of service you have, do the following.

1. Set POWER to ON.

2. Set PULSE-TONE to TONE.

3. Lift the remote keypad from the base. Then press TALK/HANG UP and
    listen for a dial tone.

4. Press any number other than 0.

If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service.

If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set PULSE-TONE to
    PULSE.
