After you install your phone, complete the procedures in this section
before using it.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

You must charge a new battery at least 10 hours before you use the phone.
When you first charge the phone, set power OFF-ON on the upper right of
the handset to OFF. (When you recharge the battery, you can set power
OFF-ON to ON, but the battery charges more quickly when power OFF-ON is
set to OFF.)

To charge or recharge the battery, simply place the handset on the cradle.
The CHARGE indicator lights.

Recharge the battery when the BAT.LOW indicator on the handset lights.

NOTES: When battery power is low, the BAT.LOW indicator lights. If battery
power is too low, it does not light.

The first time you use your phone after recharging a completely
discharged battery or installing a new battery, you might hear a
long error tone. If this happens, be sure the handset is turned on,
then return the handset to the cradle for 5 seconds. This resets
the security access code. If the CHARGE indicator does not light
when you place the handset on the cradle, be sure the battery and AC
adapter are correctly and securely connected.

Also, check the charging contacts on the handset and base. If the
contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean them with a pencil eraser.

About once a month, fully discharge the battery. Otherwise, the
battery loses its ability to fully recharge.

To fully discharge the battery, keep the handset of the cradle until
the BAT.LOW indicator comes on. (To drain the battery as low as
possible: Repeat pressing [TALK] twice until BAT.LOW LED on handset
does not turn on. This helps to erase any cell memory that may
develope). Then set power OFF-ON to OFF, return the handset to the
cradle, and fully recharge the battery.

If there is a power failure, return the handset to the base to reset
the security code. If you do not, the phone's handset beeps when
       you try to use it.

SETTING TONE-PULSE

Set TONE-PULSE on the back of the base for the type of service you have.
If you are not sure which type of service you have, do this test.

1. Set power OFF-0N on the handset to ON.

2. Set TONE-PULSE to TONE.

3. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone.

4. Press any number other than 0.

If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. Leave TONE-PULSE set
to TONE. if the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set
TONE-PULSE to PULSE.

SETTING POWER OFF-ON AND RINGER OFF-ON

Ringer OFF-ON and OFF-ON control your cordless phone's ringer.

To reduce battery usage, slide OFF-ON to OFF. The phone does not ring when
this power switch is set to OFF. This battery-saving feature is most
convenient when an extension phone is within hearing distance.

NOTE: If power OFF-ON is set to OFF and you hear another phone ringing,
you must turn on the phone before answering the call.

Ringer OFF-ON lets you turn the ringer on or off. This useful when you use
the handset in a child's room or a guest room where someone is not to be
disturbed.
