CT-353 Handheld Cellular Phone
(170-1063) Battery Faxback Doc. # 17587
INSTALLING THE BATTERY

1. Place the base of the battery into the lower part of the phone.

2. Push the top of the battery toward the upper part of the phone
until the catch snaps into place.

To remove the battery:

1. Press and hold the catch.

2. Pull the top of the battery away from phone.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

Let the battery charge for 24 hours before initial use. After initial use,
full battery charging takes only about 4 hours.

1. Plug the supplied charger's connector into the phone.

2. Connect the charger to a standard 120V AC outlet.

NOTE: You can use the phone while charging the battery but charging is
reduced during the call. For the fastest charging, make sure the
           phone is off.

3. When charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the AC outlet,
    then from the phone.

The battery charge indicator shows the approximate level of charge. The
more bars showing, the greater the remaining charge.

When the phone is turned on and charging, the bars on the battery charge
indicator scroll. When the battery is fully charged, the scrolling stops
and all bars are on (steady).

INSTALLING THE HANDSTRAP

To install the handstrap, slip the small loop through the metal loop on the
phone. Then pull the strap through the small loop.

TURNING THE PHONE ON AND OFF

Press and hold PWR until the indicators appear on the display and the
phone beeps.

When you turn on the phone, it runs a short self-test, briefly displaying
the wake-up message. (This message is programmed by your dealer.)

If the NO SVC indicator remains on, then you might be outside the
cellular service area. You cannot make or receive calls.

Remember, to make or receive any calls, your phone must be turned on and in
service.

STANDBY AND TALK TIMES

The approximate standby and talk times, for fully-charged batteries are:

Battery Type Standby Time Talk Time

Standard Battery 11 hours 45 minutes
(Cat. No. 23-1011)

Extended-Life Battery 22 hours 95 minutes
(Cat. No. 23-1012)

NOTE: You will obtain the standby time specified or the talk time
specified, or a combination. For example, for the standard battery,
11 hours standby time or 45 minutes talk time is about equal to 5
hours standby time and 20 minutes talk time.

NON-CHARGING INDICATION

If the battery is too hot or cold, the bars on the battery charge indicator
flash (and the battery does not charge).

LOW-BATTERY INDICATION

When the charge falls to approximately 10%, the phone beeps and displays
BATTERY LOW. This message repeats every 5 minutes if the phone is in the
standby mode, or every minute during a call.

When the battery is fully discharged, the phone beeps and displays RECHARGE
BATTERY, and the phone automatically turns off.

BATTERY PERFORMANCE

Batteries last longer and perform better if you allow them to discharge
fully at least once a week. You can do this by leaving the phone on
overnight, until the phone displays RECHARGE BATTERY and turns off. Or,
you can use the deep-discharge function on your (optional) Desktop Rapid
Charger (Cat. No. 17-615, RSU No. 11282167).

STORAGE

When a battery is not in use, store it uncharged in a cool, dark and dry
place. If left unused, a fully-charged battery loses its charge in a few
weeks at room temperature.

NO SERVICEABLE PARTS

The battery is a sealed unit; do not attempt to open the case.

Do not short-circuit the terminals.

BATTERY DISPOSAL

At the end of the battery's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of
properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management
authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in you area.
Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection,
drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back
programs.
