SELECTING THE PHONE NUMBER

If you subscribe to two cellular services (for example, on competitive
cellular systems in your area or on cellular systems in different cities)
your dealer programs your phone with two different telephone numbers. Each
number is stored in a NAM (Number Assignment Module).

The NAM SELECT function lets you select which phone number to use (if two
have been programmed).

1. Press MENU 7.

2. The phone displays the number currently in use. Press the ^ key or the
v key to select the other number.

3. Press STO to confirm.

SETTING THE CELLULAR SYSTEM TYPE

Using the phone in a city where you do not subscribe to a cellular service
is referred to as roaming.

Each cellular market area has two cellular service providers. One of the
providers is designated Provider A and the other Provider B. When your
phone is activated for service, find out from your dealer whether your
cellular provider is type A or B.

Usually it is less expensive to use the same company for cellular service
when you are in your home city and when you roam. To do this you need to
know whether your cellular service provider is type A or B in your home
city and in each city you plan to travel to.

It is possible for the company you purchase your cellular service from to
be (or have agreements with) Provider A in some cities and Provider B in
other cities.

The SYSTEM SELECT function lets you select one of four possible roaming
modes:

HOME TYPE A* OR HOME TYPE B**

Use this setting if you are roaming and your home city cellular service
provider is the same provider type in the city you have traveled to
(for example, if the company is Provider A in both cities).

NON HOME TYPE B* OR NON HOME TYPE A**

Use this setting if you are roaming and your home city cellular service
provider is the opposite provider in the city you have traveled to (for
example, if the company is Provider A in your home city and Provider B
    in the other city).

HOME AREA

Use this setting if you do not want to roam (you can only use the phone
within the area covered by your home cellular service provider).

BOTH SYSTEMS

With this setting the phone will use either Provider A or B in the city
you have traveled to, whichever has the stronger signal.

* When System A NAM is selected.

** When System B NAM is selected.

NOTE: The home system depends on the type of the currently selected NAM.
The phone displays the selected type (A, B, AB or neither) in the
upper left corner of the display.

To select the roaming mode, set the cellular system type as follows:

1. Press MENU 1.

2. The phone displays the system select mode currently in use. Press the
^ key or the v key to scroll to the desired option.

3. Press STO to confirm

ROAMING

In some areas, the cellular system's computer automatically recognizes
roaming telephones. In other areas, you must contact the cellular company
before it can recognize your phone. The company needs to know your
telephone number, your phone's ESN (Electronic Serial Number), and how you
intend to pay for your calls. There is usually an additional charge for
roaming calls. (The ESN is the same as the serial number.)

When you roam, ROAM flashed if you are using a cellular system that is
different from your home system (A or B). ROAM lights steadily if you roam
and are using a system that is the same as your home system (see "Setting
the Cellular System Type").

CALL TIMERS

The call timer function tracks the duration of your current/last call, the
duration of all calls (for the currently selected NAM), or resets the
timers (for both NAMs):

1. Press MENU 3.

2. The phone displays the duration of the last/current call (LAST hrs:
    mins:secs).

Press the ^ key once to display the duration of all calls since the
last call timer's reset. (TOTAL hrs:mins:secs).

Press the ^ key again and RESET TIMERS appears.

3. To reset both call timers, press STO. The phone displays LOCKCODE? to
prompt you to enter your four-digit lock code. To leave the timers
    unchanged, press CLR.

4. Enter the four-digit lock code and press STO to confirm. If you enter
the lock code incorrectly, the phone displays CODE ERROR and you must
    repeat from Step 1.

5. After you enter the correct code, the phone displays TIMERS CLEARED.

RINGING VOLUME

You can select one of three ringing volume levels for the phone.

With RINGING LOW selected, the ringing tone is quiet. With RINGING HIGH
selected, the ringing tone is loud. If you select SILENT SERVICE, the
phone does not sound a ringing tone when the phone receives an incoming
call. It sounds a short beep and flashes the lights.

1. Press MENU 6.

2. Press the ^ key or the v key to scroll to the desired ringing volume
    option.

3. Press STO to confirm the setting.

NOTE: If you select SILENT SERVICE, the phone displays SILENT (when you
are entering digits) as a reminder, and all tones (including
keypress tones) except warning tones are turned off.

BACKLIGHT CONTROL

You can select the operation of the display/keypad lighting.

With LIGHTS ON, the lights turn on when you press a key and remain on for
15 seconds after the last keypress. With LIGHTS OFF, the lights are always
off to conserve battery power.

To set the backlight control:

1. Press MENU 4.

2. Press the ^ key or the v key to display the desired backlight
    control option.

3. Press STO to confirm the setting.

KEYPAD TONES

You can turn the keypad tones on or off. When set to TONES ON, the phone
sounds a tone with each keypress; with TONES OFF, the phone does not sound
tones.

1. Press MENU 5.

2. Press the ^ key or the v key to display the desired keypad tone option.

3. Press STO to confirm the setting.

USING TOUCH TONE SERVICES

To access computer services, such as bank-by-phone or voicemail, you can
either dial directly or use memory dialing (see "Memory Dialing"). When
you dial a number while a call is already in progress, the phone produces
a touch tone for each keypress.

Manual Tone Dialing:

1. Call the computer service's telephone number in the usual way.

2. When the service answers, enter any additional numbers required. Each
number is sent immediately as a touch tone. The tone sounds for as
long as you press the key.

Automatic Tone Dialing:

1. Call the computer service's telephone number in the usual way.

2. When the call is answered, use the RCL key to recall a previously
stored number (see "Memory Dialing"). For example, to recall a number
from memory location 23, press RCL 2 3. The phone displays the stored
    number.

3. Press MENU 8. The displayed number is sent as touch tones.
