USING THE SPEAKERPHONE

To make or answer a call using the speakerphone, press the base's
TALK/HANGUP button so that its TALK/HANGUP indicator lights.

To disconnect a call using the speakerphone, press the base's TALK/HANGUP
button so that its TALK/HANGUP indicator turns off.

NOTES: Only one person can be heard at a time. The person currently
speaking must stop talking before the other person can be heard.

If the noise level near the base is high, the speakerphone might
not switch to let you hear the person on the other end of the
        phone line.

If this happens, press PRIV so that the PRIV indicator lights.
This turns off the base's microphone. When you want to talk
again, press PRIV so that the PRIV indicator turns off.

USING THE HANDSET

To use the handset, set POWER to ON. For best reception, fully extend the
antennas on the base and handset, and place the base's antenna in a
vertical position.

To make or answer a call using the handset, lift the handset from the
cradle. Or, if the handset is away from the cradle, press the handset's
TALK/HANGUP button so that its TALK/HANGUP indicator lights.

To disconnect a call using the handset, place the handset on the cradle.
Or, press the handset's TALK/HANGUP button so that its TALK/HANGUP
indicator turns off.

NOTES: If you can hear the ringer of the speakerphone or another phone on
the same phone line, you can set POWER to OFF when the handset is
away from the base. This conserves battery power. When you hear
another phone ring, set POWER to ON and press TALK/HANGUP to
        answer the call.

When you press a button, a tone sounds to show that the phone
accepted the command. Or, three error tones sound to show that
you pressed a button in error, you are out of range, or there is
        too much interference.

REDUCING INTERFERENCE

To reduce interference while using the handset, press CH to switch to the
next channel. This interrupts the call for about 3 seconds. Then, the
handset sounds two tones, and your call resumes.

NOTES: You cannot switch channels when someone is using the speakerphone.
If you try, the handset sounds three tones.

If interference is severe, the handset sounds three tones to
indicate that it cannot communicate with the base. Before you
press any key, move closer to the base.

If the battery is low or interference is severe, the handset might
lose communication with the base when you press CH. This does not
happen often, but if it does, return the handset to the cradle for
        about 5 seconds.

SWITCHING BETWEEN SPEAKERPHONE/HANDSET

If the handset is on the cradle, lift the handset to switch from the
speakerphone to the handset. The handset's TALK/HANGUP indicator lights
steadily to show that the handset is connected to the call, and the base's
TALK/HANGUP indicator flashes to show that the speakerphone is no longer
connected to the call.

If the handset is away from the cradle, follow these steps to switch from
the speakerphone to the handset:

1. Press the handset's TALK/HANGUP button. The handset's TALK/HANGUP
    indicator lights steadily.

2. The speakerphone remains connected to the call so that another person
    can join the conversation.

To disconnect the speakerphone from the call, press the base's
TALK/HANGUP button so that its TALK/HANGUP indicator flashes.

handset's TALK/HANGUP button so that its TALK/HANGUP indicator flashes.

NOTE: If the handset and speakerphone are in the same room when you
connect them both to a call, you might hear a high squeal. If this
happens, reduce the speakerphone's volume or move the handset
       farther from the base.

The redial memory also holds PAUSE entries. See "Entering a Pause" under
"Memory Dialing.", below.

call without disconnecting the current call. Press FLASH again to return
to the first call.

NOTES: The redial memory does not store the FLASH entry or the digits you
        press after the FLASH entry.

If you do not have any special phone services, pressing, FLASH
        might disconnect the current call.

USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE

Some special services, such as bank-by-phone, require tone signals. If
you have pulse service, you can still use these special tone services.
Follow these steps.

1. Be sure MODE is set to PULSE.

2. Dial the service's main number.

3. When the service answers, press LDT. Then, dial the additional
numbers. The phone sends these numbers by tone signal.

4. When you complete the call, place the handset on the cradle or press
TALK/HANGUP to disconnect the call. The phone automatically resets to
    pulse mode.

NOTE: We recommend you not use the redial feature for numbers that
include an LDT entry. The 2-second pause following the mode change
might not be long enough to allow the special service to answer.

MEMORY DIALING

You can store up to 30 telephone numbers in memory. You can then dial a
stored number by entering a two-digit, memory-location code. The handset
and speakerphone share the same memory.

Storing a Number in Memory

You can use the handset or speakerphone to store numbers in memory. Each
number you store can be up to 16 digits long.

1. Be sure MODE is set for the type of service you have, and be sure the
    TALK/HANGUP indicator is off.

2. Press STORE. Two tones sound.

NOTE: The STORE button is recessed to prevent you from accidentally
           pressing it.

3. Enter the phone number, including any PAUSE and LDT entries. See
"Entering a Pause", below, and "Using Tone Services on a Pulse Line.",
    above.

NOTE: Each PAUSE or LDT entry uses 1 digit of memory.

4. Press MEMORY.

5. Press a two-digit number from 01-30 to assign a memory-location code.

Two tones sound to confirm the number was stored.

NOTES: If you receive a call while you are storing a number in memory,
press TALK/HANGUP to answer the call. After the call, begin again
at Step 2 to store the number.

For each stored number, write the person's or company's name next
to the appropriate location number on both MEMORY directories.
Use a pencil in case you later store a different number.

To delete a number from memory, repeat the steps in "Storing a
Number in Memory", above, but do not enter a phone number.

Entering a Pause

In some telephone systems, you must dial an access code (9, for example)
and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an outside number.

If your phone is connected to one of these systems, you might want to
enter a pause at the appropriate point when you store a phone number in
memory. Press PAUSE to enter a 2-second pause. For a longer pause,
press PAUSE additional times.

Dialing a Stored Number

Follow these steps to dial a number stored in memory. You can use the
handset or the speakerphone to dial a stored number.

1. Lift the handset from the cradle, or press TALK/HANGUP.

2. When you hear a dial tone, press MEMORY.

3. Enter the memory-location code for the number you are dialing.

Testing Stored Emergency Numbers

If you store the number of an emergency service (police department, fire
department, ambulance) and you choose to test the stored number, remain on
the line to explain the reason for your call. Make the test call during
the late evening or early morning hours to avoid periods of peak demand.

Storing / Chain-Dialing Special Service Numbers

When you store special services (such as alternate long-distance or bank-
by-phone), we recommend you store the service's phone number in one
memory location and store additional information (such as the long-
distance number) in another memory location.

To memory-dial a special service, press MEMORY and the memory-location
code for the service's main number. When the service answers, press
MEMORY and the memory-location code for the additional information.

NOTES: If you have pulse service, be sure you store an LDT entry at the
end of the service's main number.

If the service requires a personal identification number, manually
dial the code at the appropriate time. To prevent unauthorized
access to the special service, we recommend you not store your
        personal identification number in memory.
