ET-508 Cordless Telephone (430-1015) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16552

CONFIRMATION AND ERROR TONES

When you press a button, the phone sounds a brief tone to indicate that it
accepted the command. If you are out of range or there is too much
interference, the phone sounds a short, low-frequency error tone. Move the
handset closer to the base and try again.

MAKING/ANSWERING A CALL

For the best reception, position the base's antenna straight up and down.

To make a call, pickup the handset. If you do not hear a dial tone, press
TALK. The TALK indicator lights. When you hear a dial tone, dial the
phone number. When you are finished with the call, either press TALK or
return the handset to the base to hang it up.

To answer a call, pick up the handset. Press TALK if you do not hear the
caller. When you are finished with the call, either press TALK or return
the handset to the base to hang it up.

NOTE: If, while the phone is already on, you accidentally press TALK
within 2-3 seconds of picking up the handset, the phone ignores your
command. After 2-3 seconds, press TALK disconnects the line.

CHANGING CHANNELS

The ET-508 lets you select any one of 10 available channels. A channel is
the frequency the phone uses to communicate information between the handset
and the base. You can change the channel when you hear a dial tone or
during a call. To change channels, press CHANNEL. The TALK indicator on
the handset blinks while the phone advances to the next channel.

USING RINGER OFF/ON

Set RINGER OFF/ON to OFF to conserve battery power. The ET-508 does not
ring, however, other phones on the same line will ring if you have not
turned off their ringers.

USING FLASH

FLASH sends the electronic equivalent of a switchhook signal. Use FLASH
with special phone company services such as call waiting. If you have call
waiting, you can press FLASH to take an incoming call without disconnecting
the current call. Press FLASH again to return to the first call.

NOTES: If you do not have any special phone services, pressing FLASH might
        disconnect the current call.

Do not press TALK to access calling services. This could
        disconnect the call.

Do not press FLASH to hang up the phone.

USING REDIAL

REDIAL quickly redials the last number dialed. When you hear a dial tone,
simply press REDIAL.

NOTES: The redial memory holds up to 63 digits so you can redial long-
distance as well as local phone numbers.

When you redial a phone number that includes FLASH, the phone only
redials the numbers after FLASH. For example, if you dial 1 2 3 4
        FLASH 5 6 7, pressing REDIAL only redials 5 6 7.

USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE

Some special services (such as electronic banking, calling cards, telephone
answering equipment, etc.) require tone signals. If you have pulse
service, you can still use these special tone services.

Follow these steps to use tone services on a pulse line.

1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE.

2. Pick up the handset (press TALK if you do not hear a dial tone).

3. When you hear a dial tone, dial the number of the special service.

4. When the service answers with a second dial tone, press *. any
additional numbers you dial produce tone signals.

5. Follow the special service's dialing procedure.

After you hang up the phone, further numbers dialed are sent as pulse
signals (since TONE/PULSE is still set to PULSE).

PAGING THE HANDSET

The ET-508 lets you page the handset by pressing a button on the base. The
handset sounds tones when you page it. This helps you locate the handset
if you left it in another room, or signals another person to return the
handset to the base. Paging the handset does not disconnect a call in
progress.

Press and release PAGER on the base. Three ring tones sound from the
handset.

If you press and hold down PAGER for about 2 seconds, the handset repeats a
series of rings for 20 seconds. This gives you time to locate the handset.

MEMORY DIALING

The memory dialer stores 10 different phone numbers of up to 16 digits each
for automatic dialing. The 0 through 9 buttons on the handset recall and
dial the phone numbers.

Storing Phone Numbers In Memory

Follow these steps to store phone numbers in memory.

1. Pick up the handset (press TALK if you do not hear a dial tone.)

2. When you hear a dial tone, press STORE.

3. Enter the phone number you want to store.

4. Press STORE again.

5. Press a number key (0-9). The number key you press is the memory
location number for the phone number you are storing.

6. Press TALK to hang up the phone.

NOTES: To change a number you already stored, store a new one in place of
        the old.

To keep a record of stored numbers, peel back the plastic covering
on top of the handset, then record the number you stored in each
memory location. Use a pencil to write the information in case you
want to change the information later.

Storing a Pause

While storing a number, simply press MEMORY where a pause is needed. When
you dial the stored number, a 3- to 4-second pause automatically occurs at
that point.

NOTE: You can add more than one pause, if necessary.

Testing Stored Emergency Phone Numbers

If you store the number of an emergency service (police department, fire
department, ambulance) and you choose to test the stored number, remain on
the line to explain the reason for your call. Make the test call during
the late evening or early morning hours to avoid peak demand periods.

Dialing a Stored Number

Follow these steps to dial a stored number.

1. Pick up the handset (press TALK if you do not hear a dial tone).

2. When you hear a dial tone, press MEMORY.

3. Press the number key (0-9) for the memory location that contains the
number you want to call. The number is dialed.

Chain Dialing From Memory

You can dial several telephone numbers stored in different memory locations
during one phone call. This is useful when you must dial more than one
number in memory to complete a call, such as numbers for an independent
long distance service.
