USING THE HANDSET

To make or answer a call using the handset, lift the handset from the
cradle. If the handset is away from the cradle, press the handset's
TALK/HANG UP button so its indicator lights.

To disconnect a call using the handset, place the handset on the cradle.
Or, press the handset's TALK/HANG UP button so its indicator turns off.

NOTES: The SPEAKERPHONE indicator on the base flashes when the handset is
        in use.

When you press a button, a tone indicates that the phone accepted
the command. Or, three error tones indicate that you pressed a
button in error, you are out of range, or there is too much
interference between the handset and the base.

Reducing Interference

To reduce interference while using the handset, press CH to switch to the
next channel. This interrupts the call for about 3 seconds, but does not
disconnect it. Then the handset sounds two tones, and your call is
resumed.

NOTES: You cannot switch channels while the speakerphone is in use. If
you try, the handset sounds three error tones.

If interference is severe, the handset sounds three tones to
indicate that it cannot communicate with the base. Before you
press any key, move closer to the base.

If the battery is low or interference is severe, the handset might
lose communication with the base when you press CH and the call
might disconnect. This does not happen often, but if it does,
return the handset to the cradle for about 5 seconds before making
        another call.

USING THE SPEAKERPHONE

To make or answer a call using the speakerphone, press SPEAKERPHONE on the
base so its indicator lights.

To disconnect a speakerphone call, press SPEAKERPHONE so the indicator
turns off.

NOTES: The TALK/HANG UP indicator on the handset flashes when the
        speakerphone is in use.

Only one person on one end of the line can be heard on the
speakerphone at a time. The person currently speaking must stop
talking before the person at the other end of the phone line can
        be heard.

If the noise level near the base is too high, the speakerphone
might not switch to let you hear the person on the other end of
        the phone line.

Press PRIVACY on the base to turn off the base's microphone and
listen to the other person. The PRIVACY indicator lights. When
you want to talk again, press PRIVACY so the indicator turns off.

SWITCHING BETWEEN THE SPEAKERPHONE/HANDSET

NOTE: If the handset and speakerphone are in the same room when they are
both connected to a call, you might hear a high squeal. If this
happens, reduce the speakerphone's volume or move the handset
       farther from the base.

Switching from the Speakerphone to the Handset

If the handset is on the cradle, lift the handset to switch from the
speakerphone to the handset. The handset's TALK/HANG UP indicator lights,
and the phone base's SPEAKERPHONE indicator flashes.

If the handset is away from the cradle and you are using the speakerphone,
press TALK/HANG UP on the handset so its indicator lights. The
speakerphone remains connected to the call. To disconnect the
speakerphone, press SPEAKERPHONE on the base so its indicator flashes.

Switching from the Handset to the Speakerphone

press SPEAKERPHONE on the base so its indicator lights. The handset
remains connected to the call. To disconnect the handset, press TALK/HANG
UP on the handset so its indicator flashes.

SPECIAL FEATURES

PAGING

When you press PAGE on the handset or PAGE/FIND on the base, the other
unit sounds a paging tone. Use this feature to page someone or to help
you locate the handset when it is away from the cradle.

NOTES: During a call, the paging tone's volume is lower.

To page the base from the handset, RINGER must be set to HIGH or
        LOW.

USING THE INTERCOM

To communicate between the speakerphone and the handset, press INTERCOM on
either unit. The other unit sounds a paging tone, both INTERCOM
indicators light, and you can begin your conversation. To end the
intercom conversation, press INTERCOM on either unit. Both INTERCOM
indicators turn off.

NOTES: You cannot make an intercom call to the handset/base if it is
already in use. If you try, the handset or base sounds three
        error tones.

If the handset and base are too close, you might hear a high
squeal. If this happens, reduce the speakerphone's volume or move
the handset farther from the base.

You can also make an intercom call during a phone conversation by
following these steps.

1. Press INTERCOM. This puts your phone conversation on hold.

2. Begin your intercom conversation.

3. Press TALK/HANG UP or SPEAKERPHONE to end your intercom conversation
    and resume your phone conversation.

Transferring a Call

Follow these steps to use the intercom to transfer a phone call from the
handset to the base or vice versa.

1. Press INTERCOM. This puts your phone conversation on hold.

2. Tell the person at the other unit that you are transferring the call.

3. Press INTERCOM again to end the intercom conversation and transfer the
    call to the other unit.

USING REDIAL

Follow these steps to redial the last dialed.

1. Lift the handset, press TALK/HANG UP on the handset, or press
SP EAKERPHONE on the base. Listen for a dial tone.

2. Press REDIAL. The phone quickly dials the last number dialed.

NOTES: The phone has one redial memory, which is updated each time you
use the handset or the base. You can redial the number using
        either unit.

The redial memory holds up to 16 digits, so you can redial long
distance as well as local numbers.

The redial memory also holds pause entries (see "Entering a
Pause"), which count as one digit in the redial memory.

The redial memory does not store a FLASH entry or any digits you
press after pressing FLASH (see "Using Flash").

USING PRIVACY

Use the privacy feature if you do not want the person on the other end of
the phone line to hear you talk to someone in the room with you. You can
still hear the person on the other end of the phone line.

While using the handset, press and hold down PRIVACY/PAUSE on the handset.
This turns off the handset's microphone. Release PRIVACY/PAUSE to resume
your phone conversation.

While using the speakerphone, press PRIVACY so its indicator lights. This
turns off the base's microphone. to resume your phone conversation, press
PRIVACY so its indicator turns off.

USING FLASH

Use FLASH to generate a timed switchhook for special services, such as
call waiting.

For example, if you have call waiting, press FLASH to take an incoming
call without disconnecting the current call. Press FLASH again to return
to the first call.

NOTES: The redial memory does not store the FLASH entry or the digits you
        press after the FLASH entry.

If you do not have any special phone services, pressing FLASH
        might disconnect the current call.

USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE

Some special services, such as bank-by-phone, require tone signals. If
you have pulse service, you can still use these special tone services by
following these steps.

1. Be sure MODE is set to PULSE.

2. Dial the service's main number.

3. When the service answers, press TONE. The phone sends any additional
    numbers using tone signals.

4. When you complete the call, place the handset on the cradle, press
TALK/HANG UP, or press SPEAKERPHONE to disconnect the call. The phone
automatically resets to the pulse mode.

NOTE: We recommend that you do not use the redial feature for numbers
that include a TONE entry. The 2-second pause following the mode
change might not be long enough to allow the special service to
       answer.

MEMORY DIALING

You can store up to 12 telephone numbers in memory, then dial the number
by entering a two-digit, memory-location code.

Storing a Number in Memory

Use the base or the handset to store numbers in memory. Each number you
store can be up to 16 digits long.

1. Press STORE on the base or the handset. The base or the handset beeps
    twice.

2. Enter the phone number you want to store using the keypad on the base.

3. Press MEMORY and enter the desired two-digit memory location number.
The base or handset beeps twice.

NOTE: If you receive a call while you are storing a number in memory,
press TALK/HANG UP or SPEAKERPHONE to answer the call. After the
call, begin at Step 1 to store the number.

To delete a number from memory, repeat these steps, but do not enter a
phone number in Step 2.

For each stored number, write the person's or company's name next to the
appropriate location number on the handset's and base's MEMORY
directories. Use a pencil in case you need to change the number later.

Entering a Pause

In some telephone systems, you must dial an access code (9, for example)
and wait for a second tone before you can dial an outside number.

To enter a 2-second pause at the appropriate point when you store a phone
number in memory, press PAUSE. For a longer pause, press PAUSE additional
times.

Dialing a Memory Number

Follow these steps to dial a number stored in memory. You can use the
handset or the base to dial a stored number.

1. Lift the handset from the cradle, press TALK/HANG UP, or press
    SPEAKERPHONE.

2. When you hear a dial tone, press MEMORY and enter the memory-location
code for the number you are dialing.

The phone dials the number stored for that memory location.

Important: If you store the number of an emergency service (police
department, fire department, or ambulance) and you want to
test the stored number, remain on the line to explain the
reason for your call. Make the test call during late evening
or early morning to avoid periods of peak demand.

Chain-Dialing Special Service Numbers

When you store special services (such as alternate long-distance or bank-
by-phone), we recommend you store the service's phone number in one memory
location and store additional information (such as the long-distance
number) in another memory location.

To memory-dial a special service, press MEMORY and the memory-location code
for the service's main number. When the service answers, press MEMORY and
the memory-location code for the additional information.

NOTES: If you have a pulse service, be sure you store a TONE entry at the
end of the service's main number.

To prevent unauthorized access to the special service, we recommend
you do not store your personal identification number in memory.
