Big Digit Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Memory
(630-1014) Installation Faxback Doc. # 52941

Installing the Battery

You need one AAA battery (not supplied) to power your thermometer. For
the longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries (available at your local
RadioShack store).

CAUTION: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended
          type.

Follow these steps to install a battery.

1. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of
the arrow marked on the cover.

2. Place a AAA battery in the compartment on the attached ribbon
according to the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside.

The thermometer briefly displays MAX, MIN, and -188.8 degrees E (test
characters), then the indoor and outdoor temperatures appear.

3. Replace the cover.

Notes: If the thermometer does not operate after you install the battery,
        simply remove and re-install it.

If the display dims or disappears, or if the thermometer stops
        working properly, replace the battery.

CAUTIONS: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or
           bury them.

Always remove old or weak batteries. Batteries can leak
chemicals that can destroy electronic parts.

Mounting

You can place the thermometer on a flat surface, or mount it on the wall
using a screw (not supplied). For measuring the outside temperature, the
thermometer's sensor cord extends up to 10 feet. You can easily mount the
sensor to an outside location using the supplied metal loop.

Selecting a Location

Choose a location indoors near a window so you can route the remote sensor
cord outside.

CAUTIONS: Do not place the thermometer or remote sensor in direct
           sunlight.

Keep the thermometer and sensor away from hot or cold sources
such as stoves, heating and air conditioning vents, and
           radiators.

Do not place the thermometer in water or in a location where it
is likely to get wet. Only the remote sensor and its cord are
           water resistant.

Avoid placing the sensor's cord where it could be pinched or
           cut.

Mounting the Thermometer

To set the thermometer on a flat surface, pull the built-in stand away
from the back of the unit and set it on a flat surface for easy viewing.

To mount the thermometer on a wall using he keyhole slot on the back of
the thermometer, you need a 1/8 inch (3 mm) screw (not supplied) with a
head that fits into the keyhole slot on the back of the unit.

Follow these steps to mount the thermometer on a wall.

1. Drill a hole in the wall at the desired mounting location.

2. Thread a screw into the wall until the head extends about 1/8 inch
    from the wall.

3. Position the keyhole slot over the screw and slide the thermometer
    down to secure it.

Mounting the Outdoor Sensor

To mount the outdoor sensor, you need a small nail or screw (not supplied)
with a head that fits through the small metal loop attached to the tip of
the sensor.

1. Drive in a small nail or screw at the desired mounting location (an
outside wall or fence post, for example).

2. Route the sensor and its cord through a nearby window.

3. Hang the sensor's attached loop on the nail or screw.
