INSTALLING/REPLACING BATTERIES

Your thermometer/hygrometer requires two AA batteries (not included) for
power. For the longest life and best performance, we recommend alkaline
batteries, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-557. Follow these steps to
install the batteries.

CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended
           type.

Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries
(standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable
           batteries of different capacities.

1. Lift and pull up the top center edge of the battery compartment cover,
    then remove the cover.

2. Place two fresh AA batteries in the compartment as indicated by the
polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside.

3. As soon as you install the batteries, (symbols) appears on the upper
display (the lower display is blank). After a few seconds, MEM and
the temperature that the thermometer/hygrometer senses through the
attached outdoor sensor appear on the lower display. Then the indoor
temperature and relative humidity appear on the upper display.

4. Select the temperature scale by setting C/F in the battery compartment
to C degrees for Celsius, or F degrees for Fahrenheit.

Note: You can change the temperature scale at any time.

5. Replace the cover.

Fresh alkaline batteries last for about 1 year. If the displays appear
weak or if the thermometer/hygrometer does not work properly, replace the
batteries.

Note: If MEM does not appear in the lower display (see "Outdoor
Temperature" in Faxback Doc. # 47880), remove the batteries. Then,
wait a few seconds and reinstall them.

CAUTIONS: Never leave dead or weak batteries in the thermometer/
           hygrometer.

Dispose of batteries properly, do not bury or burn them.

CHOOSING MOUNTING LOCATIONS

Choose locations for mounting the thermometer/hygrometer and the attached
outdoor sensor that are within 10 feet of each other and that will let you
easily route the outdoor sensor outside (near a window, for example).

For the best results, mount the thermometer/hydrometer and outdoor sensor
on drywall or wood surfaces. Avoid mounting either on ceramic tile or
metal surfaces.

The most common way to route the outdoor sensor outside is through a
corner or depression in a window sill or door edge. You can also use a
pass-through tube (such as Cat. No. 15-1200) to route the outdoor sensor
through a wall.

CAUTIONS: The outdoor sensor is permanently attached to the thermometer/
hygrometer. Do not try to remove it.

Avoid routing the outdoor sensor's cord where it could be
           pinched or cut.

Note: Keep the thermometer/hygrometer and outdoor sensor away from
artificial sources of heat or cold such as stoves, heating vents,
       radiators, and direct sunlight.

Mounting the Thermometer/Hygrometer

You need one wood screw (not supplied) to mount the thermometer/hygrometer
on a wall. Make sure the screw head fits in the keyhole slot on the back
of the thermometer/hygrometer.

1. Mark the position of the screw hole.

2. In the marked location, drill a hole slightly smaller than the wood
    screw.

CAUTION: Be careful not to drill into any objects behind the wall.

3. Using a screwdriver, drive the screw into the wall, letting the head
extend 1/8 inch from the wall.

4. Align the keyhole slot on the back of the thermometer/hygrometer with
the screw head in the wall, then carefully push the thermometer/
hygrometer onto the screw head and slide it down into place.

Mounting the Outdoor Sensor

You need one nail, wood screw, or masonry screw (not supplied) to mount
the outdoor sensor. Make sure the nail or screw head is larger than the
small loop on the wire bracket attached to the outdoor sensor.

1. Mark the position of the screw hole.

2. In the marked location, drill a hole slightly smaller than the nail or
    screw.

CAUTION: Be careful not to drill into any objects behind the wall.

3. Slide the wire bracket off the outdoor sensor.

4. Push the nail or screw's tip through the small loop on the wire
bracket, then drive the nail or screw into the wall.

5. Slide the outdoor sensor onto the wire bracket.
