Weatheradio With Alert (120-0240) Weather Broadcasts Faxback Doc. # 3580
USING THE ALERT MODE
You can set the radio to alert you of a weather emergency without having
to listen to the National Weather Service broadcasts.
Follow these steps to set the radio to the alert mode.
1. To turn on the radio, turn VOLUME counterclockwise until it clicks.
The radio is in the alert mode and the alert indicator lights. Then
set VOLUME to its center position.
Note: If the radio is set to receive weather broadcasts, simply
press ALERT to set the radio to the alert mode. The alert
indicator lights and the receiver is silent.
2. Set ALERT LOCK as follows:
ON - The siren sounds until you press WEATHER to silence it.
OFF - The siren sounds only during the 10-second alert signal
broadcast. We suggest you use this setting when you are away
from the radio so that the siren does not disturb others if it
sounds. When you return, the radio's alert indicator flashes
to let you know that the radio received an alert signal
broadcast.
When the radio receives an alert signal, press WEATHER. The siren stops
(if it is still sounding), the alert indicator stops flashing, and you
hear the current weather broadcast.
To turn off the radio, turn VOLUME clockwise until it clicks.
TESTING THE ALERT CIRCUIT
All National Weather Service stations periodically transmit an alert test
signal. Some stations broadcast the test signal only once a week, while
others broadcast it more often. You can always find out when the test
signal is scheduled to broadcast by calling the U.S. Weather Bureau for
your local National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) station.
You can test the alarm anytime the radio is on by following these steps.
1. Be sure the radio is on and in the alert mode. (See "Receiving
Weather Broadcasts" and "Using the Alert Mode.")
2. Press TEST. The alarm sounds.
3. If ALERT LOCK is on, press WEATHER to stop the alarm.
