RECEIVING A BROADCAST

Follow these steps to receive a National Weather Service broadcast:

1.  Set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to WEATHER.

2.  Rotate VOLUME to the left it clicks.  Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable
    listening level.

3.  Fully extend the antenna for the best reception.

4.  Set FREQUENCY to the position (A, B, or C) that gives the clearest
    signal.

USING THE ALERT ALARM

If a weather emergency occurs, the National Weather Service broadcasts a
special signal that causes the weatheradio to sound an alarm tone.  This
warns you that emergency weather information is about to be broadcast.

Follow the steps in "Receiving a Broadcast" to tune to the National Weather
Service station.  Then follow these steps to set the radio to the alert
mode:

1.  Set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to ALERT.

    In an emergency weather situation, the weatheradio automatically sounds
    an alarm for about 6-10 seconds at full power, regardless of the volume
    setting.  When you hear the alarm, set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to WEATHER to
    hear emergency information.

    NOTE:  If you set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to WEATHER before the 10 seconds
           end, you hear the reminder of the alarm before the emergency
           information begins.

2.  Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level.

3.  After you listen to the broadcast, set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK back to
    ALERT if you want to monitor the weather station for further emergency
    broadcasts.

USING ALERT LOCK

If you are away from the weatheradio, you might miss an emergency broadcast
because you are out of hearing range of the alarm tone.  The alert lock
feature causes the alarm to stay on until you disable it.

To use alert lock, WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to LOCK.

When you hear the tone, disable alert lock by setting WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK
to WEATHER.  The alarm tone stops and you can hear the emergency
information.

TESTING THE ALARM

Follow these steps to test the weatheradio's alarm:

1.  Rotate VOLUME to the left to turn on the weatheradio.

2.  Set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to ALERT or LOCK.

3.  Press TEST.

    If you set WEATHER/ALERT/LOCK to ALERT, the alarm tone sounds only
    when you press and hold down TEST.  Release TEST to stop the alarm.

    NOTE:  If the alarm tone weakens, replace the batteries.
