Your chess computer displays information about its calculations during
play. Studying this information can help you learn more about chess.
You can view game information at any time during a game by pressing INFO.
Note: You can set the computer to automatically display game information
as it computes its next move. See "Rotating Display Options" in
Faxback Doc. # 46725.
You can view the following types of game information:
Principal variation
Search information
Chess clocks
Note: The computer displays --- if selected information is not available.
Principal Variation
The computer predicts the moves it thinks an opponents will make, then
computes countermoves to those moves. These countermoves are called
principal variations.
To view the first principal variation, press INFO during the computer's
turn. The display shows PLY 1 and the FROM and TO squares for the first
countermove the computer is considering.
Then press WHITE/- or BLACK/+ to see additional countermoves, if any.
Search Information
The computer can evaluate the current board position. To view the
computer's evaluation, press INFO twice. Then repeatedly press WHITE/-
or BLACK/+ to cycle through the following settings.
Search Depth/Considered Move/Number of Moves Examined
The display shows the depth to which the computer is computing, the move
that the computer is currently considering, and the number of moves that
have been examined.
Search Depth/Selected Move/Evaluation
The display shows the depth to which the computer is computing, the move
that the computer has selected, and the move's evaluation value (the
computer's assessment of which side has the advantage during the game).
Positions Examined/Time Spent
The display shows the number of board positions the computer has
considered per second and the amount of time it spent determining its
next move.
Chess Clocks
The computer's chess clocks keep track of various types of game time
information. To view the computer's chess clocks, press INFO three times.
Then repeatedly press WHITE/- or BLACK/+ to cycle through the following
settings.
Elapsed Time Since Any Move
The display shows the previous move plus the searching time taken by the
computer since the last move was executed.
Elapsed Time
The display shows both side's total play time.
Remaining Time
The display shows the amount of time remaining in the current game or
setting for each side when playing at any level.
