RULES OF HEARTS
You play Hearts against three computer opponents (PLAYER 1, PLAYER 3,
PLAYER 4). You are PLAYER 2.
The object of the game is to have the lowest score of the four players
when one of the players reaches a preset number of points. Points are
accumulated by taking "tricks" that include cards of the Heart suit or the
Queen of Spades. Each Heart counts as 1 point and the Queen of spades
counts as 13 points.
At the start of the game, four players are each dealt 13 cards. Then each
player passes three cards to the player to his or her left. When you pass
three cards, you get three new cards from the player to your right.
The player who holds the 2 of Clubs plays that card. After a card is led,
you must play a card of the same suit, if you have one. If you do not
have a card in the lead suit, you can play any card in your hand.
Each round is called a "trick." Each player plays one card in Each trick.
The player with the highest card in the lead suit wins the trick and leads
the next trick. If the trick contains any points (hearts or the Queen of
Spades), those points are added to the score of the player who wins the
trick. If you win a trick that does not contain any Hearts or the Queen
of Spades, you do not accumulate any points.
Generally, you want to avoid points, unless you are trying to "Shoot the
Moon" (gain all 26 available points in a hand). When you "Shoot the
Moon," no points are added to your score. Instead, 26 points are added to
each of your opponents' scores.
New hands continue to be dealt until one player reaches a preset number of
points. The preset point level is 100, but you can change the level to
any increment of 50 (between 50 and 950). When any player reaches the
limit, the player with the lowest score wins.
