Installing Batteries

Your game requires four AA batteries (not supplied) for power. For the
longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as RadioShack Cat. No.
23-552.

1. Pressing the battery compartment cover's tabs in the direction of the
arrows, lift them to remove the cover.

2. Put the batteries in the compartment according to the polarity symbols
    (+ and -) marked inside.

CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended
              type.

Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries
(standard, alkaline, or rechargeable) or rechargeable batt-
              eries of different capacities.

3. Replace the cover.

CAUTIONS: If you will not be using the game for a week of more, remove the
batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy elec-
          tronic parts.

Always dispose of old batteries properly and promptly.

Setting Up Your Game

Put the supplied stickers where you want them on the targeting grid.

Then insert the targeting grid into the base's middle slot.

How The Game Works

The players take turns trying to sink their opponent's ships by firing
missiles at them.

Each player places a fleet of battleships or space ships on their A grid
and records the opponent's hits (using red pegs) and misses (using white
pegs) at the appropriate locations.

Each player uses one side of the targeting grid to record their own hits
(using red pegs) and misses (using white pegs).

The game ends when all of one player's ships have been sunk, or when all
missiles have been fired. The player who sinks all of their opponent's
ships first wins the game. A ship is sunk if all of its circles have been
hit.

Each side can fire 102 missiles; however, you get one additional missile
each time you destroy an opponent's ship.

Setting Up Your Fleet

You can use either battleships of spaceships. When you play against the
computer, you can use space ships, but the computer always uses battle-
ships.

Ships must lie either horizontally or vertically. They cannot be placed
diagonally, go off the edge of the play grid, or be stacked. However,
ships can touch each other.

Note: The space ships occupy a larger area than the battleships and cannot
be placed close enough together to touch. When you know your oppo-
nent is using the space ships and you have sunk one, you can save
ammunition by not firing at neighboring squares.
