LCD CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF
(600-2666) Operation Faxback Doc. # 44814
Playing The Game
Your Championship Golf game is always ready whenever you want to play
(it does not turn off).
There are eight display screens on the Championship Golf game: one main
screen for all the action, and seven indicator screens (three above the
main screen and four below it). You use the display screens and the four
green keys to play the game.
1. Press MODE. This display appears and a demonstration game begins.
Press MODE again to stop the demonstration game.
2. To play the game by yourself, press CLUB SELECT so SYMBOL appears.
For two players, press CLUB SELECT again. Both SYMBOL and SYMBOL
appear.
3. Press CHECK SOUND to turn on the sound effects. SYMBOL appears
above SOUND. Press CHECK SOUND again to turn off the sound
effects. SYMBOL appears.
NOTE: When you turn off the sound, you cannot turn it on again until
the beginning of the next game.
4. To start the game, press START SWING SHOT. A short melody plays.
NOTE: 1 appears next to OUT, indicating the current hole.
5. Press CLUB SELECT to select a club (There are 12 to choose from).
Your club selection appears next to CLUB. (See "Club Select Guide"
for help in your club selection).
NOTE: If you do not press CLUB SELECT, the game automatically
selects the 1 Wood (1W) for the first shot of each hole.
When you hit the ball onto the green, the game automatically
selects the putter (PT).
6. Hold down START SWING SHOT until the club backswing reaches the
desired position. The POWER bar moves to show the force with which
you will hit the ball. To start the club on the down-swing, press
START SWING SHOT again. The club swings down and automatically hits
the ball.
NOTES:
The farther the POWER bar moves to the left, the higher your
back-swing and the greater the impact on the ball. The greater
the impact, the greater the distance. But, if you move the POWER
bar too far to the left, you might miss the ball when you press
START SWING SHOT again to make the shot!
The distance the ball travels also depends on the WIND and GROUND
conditions. (See "Wind Conditions" on Page 12, and "Ground
Conditions" on Page 13).
When you successfully hit the ball, the top center display shows the traveling distance, stroke number, and the remaining distance to the hole,
in that order.
When you hit the ball off the course or into the water, OB (out of bounds)
or WATER HAZARD appears. A one-stroke penalty is counted.
7. When playing by yourself, repeat Steps 2-3 until you hit the ball
into the hole. The top center display briefly shows the running
score before the game advances to the next hole.
If two players are playing, 1 or 2 flashes to show whose turn it
is. Repeat Steps 2-3 until both players hit their balls into the
hole.
8. Repeat Steps 2-4 until you complete all 18 holes on the course. To
stop playing at any time, press MODE. The display returns to the
demonstration mode.
The game stays in play until all 18 holes are completed. Then it
returns to the demonstration game if you do not press a key for
about 90 seconds.

Wind Conditions
Each hole, or "out," has different wind conditions. An arrow above WIND
indicates which direction the wind is coming from.
The wind direction affects the shot distance this way:
Wind coming from the front - the shot distance will be 10% less than the
normal traveling distance.
Wind coming from the back - the shot distance will be 10% more than the
normal traveling distance.
NOTE: Shot distance is normal if no wind indicator appears on the
display.
Ground Conditions
Each hole has different ground conditions. The moment the ball hits the
ground, the display shows FAIRWAY, ROUGH, or BUNKER.
Ground Conditions affect the shot distance this way:
FAIRWAY - normal traveling distance.
ROUGH - the shot distance will be 10% less than the normal traveling
distance.
BUNKER - the shot distance will be 20% less than the normal traveling
distance if using a Wood, an Iron, or a Pitching Wedge, or 10%
less than the normal traveling distance if using a Sand Wedge.
Checking Information
Press CHECK SOUND during the game to display the number of strokes taken
on the current hole. Press CHECK SOUND again to display the score for the
completed hole(s). Press CHECK SOUND a third time to display the
remaining distance to the hole.
You can press START SWING SHOT to clear the shot information from the
display.
Scoring
Each hole has a par (the standard number of strokes needed to hit the ball
in the hole). The game determines the score by subtracting the number of
par for each hole played from the player's total number of strokes. This table shows the par and distance for each hole.

before the score indicating that the score is "below" par.
